So I've made a relatively small but I think useful mod. There's just a few more things I wanted to work on so I thought it was time to throw together a beta version. Currently at 1.4.4 compatibility. May remain compatible with 1.4.5.

Added the stronghold scanner, capable of finding the nearest stronghold or if the current chunk (16x16 block zone) is cabable of supporting slime spawning.
Tweaked the radar to behave slightly better at the edge of its scan radius
Updated gui and a new gui to the stronghold and slime scanner.
Fixed a small direction giving glitch that occured when looking southwest.
Added everything to creative mode tabs
The mod consists of two Items (IDs 5922, 5923 for compatibility) and a block (ID 204).
Identify any and all ores in radar range! And now find strongholds and slimes with ease.
*NEW: The stronghold & slime scanner is a shapeless recipe with the scanner and a mossy cobblestone. Choose in the calibrator.

Right clicking will accurately point you towards the nearest rare ore within a few blocks of you (if one exists):

To open this gui right click on the block while holding the radar. Shown are defaults, and to note the radar works with or without this block. Try the stronghold scanner, it opens a different gui!
It's been quite a bit of work to make it minimalistic and functional but this is close to the final product. The code shouldn't have any problem on slower computers.
Currently enable/disable settings work but are not saving between game sessions. Once I fix this I think I'll release a full version.
I assumed everyone knew about using ModLoader to install mods sorry. What acters124 posted is absolutely correct, install modloader and drag the files, include the texture folder just don't open it. Taking the contents of that folder and not the folder itself would cause issues. I'll update the instructions later today.
Updated to beta v2. Added a new item cabable of finding strongholds and identifying slime spawning chunks. Switch between the two in the block gui. The recipe requires a mossy cobblestone which was a balance decision but is subject to future change.
This item should be as reliable as an ender pearl but I'd really like some feedback on how it's working in practice. It won't take you to the entrance but it should get you close, try looking around or just digging for it. I have some ideas for further improving this function in the future.

Been busy with school and haven't had much time to play with any code. Looks like they've changed a lot so someday I still hope to get the settings to save on this thing...
Anyways just a compatibility update, nothing changed so everything should still work... Tell me if otherwise!
