It's already in the mod. It can only be rarely found in the Dragon Temples.
So it's clearly in the same area. Angela is pretty much immortal or just long-living. Elva stopped aging after a few months and hasn't aged anymore since she looked 4-5ish, Brom may be resurrected if they find a way to heal his mind quickly enough or if great need ever arises, Roran, Solembum(Who they didn't say the life span of because they never mention how long Werecats live), and Nasuada may be dead, but the Elves may be able to increase their life span dramatically. And I also forgot Arya and Firnen, who would be able to live that long for sure unless they were killed or if they died somehow.
One problem with the swords: They should NOT be able to be crafted, as the swords are elf-made. Maybe there should be an NPC who will sell it or be in a building with the forge or crafting able needed to craft the weapons. Will there be unique dragons and NPCs, such as Brom, Oromis and Glaedr (with his missing leg).Perhaps Galbatorix and Derza as bosses.Anyway, great job on this! I hope this mod goes far, as I am currently reading Eldest. My friend reccommended it, and I have yet to put the book down and go to sleep most nights!Good luck!
HECK NO! I like that you can craft it. It takes place hundreds of years after, who's to say that other people couldn't learn to craft it O.o I think it should be able to be crafted, just so it also matches with Minecraft. After all, it IS still a MINECRAFT mod.
The swords are a bit to easy to get, and the last time I checked they were crappy,
which I thought was ridiculous,
and the blue dragon (saphira) really shouldn't have feathers, because that was just a stupid idea for the Eragon movie.

I wouldn't call them crappy; they have decent textures, they never break, and there are multiple colors. Their strength is questionable, but is just right (In my opinion.) to keep them from being over-powered. Although, I will agree with you that they may be to easy to get. Should be slightly harder.
Alright, so the team and I got to some talking today about something major and that will definitely change the mod's future and possibilities going forward. However, before doing this, I want your guys' opinions. If you like the idea, say so. We'll do it then. If not, say so. Things will stay as they are.
We want to change the mod. We want to entirely drop the Eragon theme.
Here's why.
As it is now, the theme of Shur'tugal very severely restricts us in what we can/can't add. As it is right now, we're already breaking lore enough as it is. We had to institute the statement that our story takes place hundreds of years after the Inheritance Series just so we can implement the dragon temples and have it be okay.
If we drop the theme of Eragon, but keep our main theme (Dragons, dragons, exploration, and more dragons) we can pull off some really great content we wouldn't have been able to otherwise. If we keep Eragon, there will eventually be a point to where the mod is done, we can add nothing more, and that's because of how limited we are.
If we become an independent mod, we can do whatever we want. We can add what we want, and we can do a lot more. The next few planned updates will stay exactly what they were intended to be. They will be about Magic, Dragons, and Civilizations, but none will be about Eragon's universe. We'll still throw in nods and references here and there, but they won't be "canon." Just fun little references. However, once these major updates are out, we can continue with many, many more updates to come.
However, this is all up to you guys. We do not make this mod FOR you, we make it WITH you.
Will I be disappointed if you say you want to keep the Eragon theme? Yes.
Will I be disappointed if you want to get rid of it? Yes.
We the team have talked this over for a majority of the day, and the idea has been going around in my head for awhile. It wasn't until one of our coders brought this up to me that I actually decided to talk to the team about it, and we're okay with changing it. We're okay with not changing it. That's why we're bringing this to you.
A simple yes or no will do, HOWEVER, I would like a nice, thought out argument that supports your thought. That will give me a consensus of what you guys really feel more than a bunch of one word responses.
We should drop the theme to be able to expand this mod beyond the Eragon series and stop making non-canon errors, but will put in a few Easter Eggs of the Inheritance Series along the way even if we do, I am disappointed about this choice as a whole but please leave your feedback on the matter.~ Taklok
Short answer: No.
Long answer:Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
But seriously, I do understand this problem, the Eragon/Inheritance universe is only so large. However, for now it must remain an Eragon mod. I typed in Shur'tugal looking for random pages of Eragon, and I saw the words "Shurtugal Mod" appear, and I clicked it. That's how I found this. For it to be an Eragon makes it reach out to the people who have enjoyed the bestselling Inheritance series and want to see what it's like in Minecraft. If you remove the Eragon part it's just a dragon riding mod that seems a lot like Eragon and will not reach out to as wide of an audience. To make this mod called "Shur'tugal, the Dragon Riding Mod" would make many know about it, and I believe that the more people hear about and/or use this mod, the more of a viable option dropping the theme is. But at this point, word of mouth is not enough. Leave it as is for now, then, when it gets popular enough or you run out of Alagaesia to put into this game, then dropping the theme is a good decision because you can then expand the mod to your wildest imagination. Well, that's PSI's Opinion Of The Day, thank you for reading and feel free to like,comment,and/or subscribe! But seriously, feedback on this comment is appreciated.

So here's my rebuttle of sorts. You aren't looking at the big picture. If we drop Eragon now, yes. It is a dragon rider mod. But let's look to the future at everything planned. When we're done, this could possibly be it's own game, similar to The Aether Mod or Tale of Kingdoms. And you say we could drop it later when it gets more well known. But why do that when we could do it now and extend the mod to whatever we want now as opposed to later?

All that aside, I would have to agree with EpicDovahSteve about just keep on as you are, then after you've put all the eragon that will fit, then drop it and go crazy.

The Road goes ever on and on, down from the the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow if I can, pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way, where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens (I'm one of them... can you figure out which?)

As I said above, this makes no sense to me. Why build up a super high reputation then change everything? Why not start now when we have a smaller one? I mean, I get that a majority of people here ARE here because of Eragon, but we have to look forward to the future, not what we want now.
I am totally fine with you dropping the Eragon theme. I agree that it would be easier to drop the theme now, so later you can add anything you want! Also, I have my own lore with this mod, and none of it really has anything to do with eragon so thats fine. And people are more likely to search for a more mounts mod or flying mounts mod than an eragon mod or shurtugal mod. But i have a quick question. What does this mean about 1.6.2 and the magic update?
But as long as this mod sticks with the dragons and riding, I will support it on the forums!

I covered this in my wall of words. Everything will stay exactly as planned, just no Eragon elements and the name will change.

This is a lot to think about. I will give my honest opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. I love the Inheritance Cycle, and I think I always will. That is how I found this mod, and it became an instant favorite. Although, the number one thing that I always thought this mod could improve on is the dragons. The dragons are my favorite part about this mod. There is so much you could add with the dragons, like communication and riding techniques, but then again, there is a lot you could add with it being a sole Eragon mod. I can't make up my mind on which side I should take. If I had to make a choice right now, I would say drop the Eragon theme, as much as I hate and despise myself for saying it. I love the books and the mod because of the dragon aspect. Of course, everyone will have their own opinion, and that is mine. As long as it has some sort of Eragon-like references are in it, and focuses on dragons, I'm happy, and hopefully (But probably not.)most of the community will be, too. I will be following this forum really closely for the next few days, and see what happens. Good luck Tak, and the rest of the team.-WarDog
I think you should complete it as you would. Aftter 1.7 you won't have to change the code much, if at all. After that I tink you should keep in something after the book, but not restrained to the books. If you want a longer awnser I'll give you one

I think dropping the Eragon theme now would open a door of unlimited possibility and creativity for you guys as creators. As you mentioned the books restrict things, and the general idea of this mod is what I love about it. Not that it has a Eragon reference in the name. Being based off the Eragon books put this mod off to a great start. I think you guys can go a lot farther with it going off in your own direction. I'd be excited to see where this mod goes without the limitations. You can only add so much to the Eragon universe... Meanwhile you could do so much with the freedom of not being tied to a title.
For reference, this is the kind of comment I'm looking for. Just so you guys know.

Later because at the moment, Eragon is much more popular than it will be later. Yes, it could someday be a game in itself, or at least a Technic Launcher pack. But at the moment, it's still just a mod. We're talking now. By removing the theme later I meant probably by the end of the year depending on how long it takes on average for the different updates to come out. If this were to become its own game, the main audience would be the people who use the mod unless you would be willing to blow a large amount of cash on hyping your game. It is a good idea to drop the theme to expand it immensely, but I think that 1 or 2 updates after its' official release is the best time because that will probably be when ideas begin to run thin.
For now, the theme is good, but after 1.2 when the ideas shrink in number, that will be when the idea will be both valid and self-sustaining.
I know I haven't been on these forums long, and in this thread even shorter, but here's how I found out about this mod:
I believe I had seen it on the forums and glossed over it in part because of the mention of Eragon (fans don't kill me, I only saw the movie and never read the books). Later I watched a mod review that didn't really even mention Eragon and just used the Shur'tugal name for the mod. I loved what I saw - awesome ride-able dragons that grew up. Cool puzzles to figure out to even get the egg. Weapons only a dragon owner could craft. Once I followed the mod review link I realized I had looked at this thread before.
So for me, if anything, the Eragon title was a distraction. As long as it keeps its current game elements I have no problem with dropping Eragon from the title. I do however like (kind of) the fact that your dragon's life is tied to your own. Forces players to be more careful and really try to not die.

I'm liking the responses I'm seeing you guys. I'm just going to let the idea pot stew for another day or so before we officially decide. I'm happy with how well you guys are taking this.

We will keep the fact that the dragon is tied to you. Ive Spent way to much time working on it to remove it.. lol. I'm mostly joking on the last part, it is a nice feature and i plan on keeping it if we move away from it.

I generally don't reply to other posters, for its your opinion and I have no right to say otherwise...
But looking at it from a developing view, would it not be easier to drop the theme now as opposed to later? (As you are talking about temporarily keeping Eragon yes?) Because If they continue on Eragon and later actually want to go through with this different theme; they may have to change a lot of things that fit for 'Eragon' but not their game. I don't see a lot of Eragon hype nowadays, even with the new book coming out. The mod speaks for itself and already puts its own name out there, it's just a great mod. A lot of dedication. It doesn't necessarily have to ride a hype train.

They aren't talking about dropping any content (even Roran's Hammer I don't think) so unless they add any completely Eragon-related things like Brisingr or Murtagh or something they won't have any problems there. Yes, Roran's Hammer is completely Eragon, but it is just one of those little arrows towards it, it doesn't throw the game in its' direction. No, it doesn't need hyper hyped, but if they still have ideas relating to Eragon that they can keep later, might as well ride along for a while, doesn't hurt nobody.
