This is pretty good! You should definatley add more hostile mobs, like a bigfoot, swampman, or ghost! I'll be checking on this more often. I have a few ideas....
Wasps: You can find them spawning from wasp nests which hang in trees. They die in one hit and attack anything that gets too close to their precious nest (Skeletons, Spiders, Zombies, Pigs, ect.) At night time they return to the nest. The nest glows softly at night (equal to a redstone torch) so it is easily identified. Wasps drop nothing, but destroying the nest with an axe can drop prizes (like ores, apples, whatever you think fits!) But also releases whatever wasps where inside! You can occasionally find giant wasps that belong to no nest, see below. PS: Nests have a maximum amount of wasps and are fairly rare.
Giant Wasp: These wasps do not spawn from nests, they are some type of mutated creature that is always agressive. They spawn in every biome except for ocean and snow, and attack all creatures it comes across, excluding hostile mobs and bigfoots. (it will attack animals, but not hostile mobs like creepers or skeletons.) They have health equal to a spider and make a loud buzzing noise. They are attracted to wooden planks and sugar cane. They drop spider eyes, nether wart, and flint.
Bigfoot: Walks around in the forest and attacks skeletons. Skeletons also attack bigfoots on sight. Bigfoot has a health equal to an iron giant and drops leather and raw steak. Staying within 10 blocks of a bigfoot for longer then 4 seconds agitates them, causing them to attack. You can befriend a bigfoot with any type of food (apples, steak, also even sugar) when befriended, they won't attack you and take 3 times as long to despawn. Giving a bigfoot a cake will make him your pet, he will follow you, and when you right click him he will patrol that area defending it from monsters within a radius of 25 blocks. Bigfoots are immune to wasp stings and take no damage from them.
Lizardman / Swampman: The swamp man is a hostile mob that spawns in jungles and swamps, it will attack the player on sight and has health equal to a zombie. However, they run twice as fast and occasionally jump about 4 blocks high, making them tricky to fight. They take no drowning or fall damage, but take twice as much fire damage. They drop ghast tears and rarely gold nuggets.
These are just suggestions, i really like the vannila feel of this mod! Keep it up!
And for a new modder you have made a pretty good mod!
I'd personally like to see, bees, bears and foxes added to the mod. Yes, i KNOW that mo creatures already has bears and foxes but they don't do anything. I imagine the bears trying to get honey from bees, and foxes (red and artic) that kill chickens and run from the player XD

Attacks in the dark. Tameable with meat attacks farm animals at night hates the light.
After attack will drain HP and heal themself or you if tamed.

A bat that eats fruit and that's how you tame it(Apples/Melons Slices)
Drops: 0-4 Apples/0-2 Melon Slices

Just your average bats and are tameable with meat.

Nectar Bat(Passive)Spawn: Forest/Plains
There attracted to flowers(Like moths to torches)tameable with yellow flowers and collect flowers for you.

A bat that eats insects nothing else but that it's tameable with spider eye.

A burning red bat that is in the nether caves or top sets you on fire.

I know it's not a whale but it looks like one attacks whales tameable with fish.

The biggest whale on earth make it gigantic.
Drops: 3-7 Fish/4-8 Whale Blubber
Humpback Whale(Passive)Spawn: Ocean
It's a humpback whale it's tameable with fish and like orcas are rideable.

Sperm Whale(Neutral)Spawn: Ocean
Attack squids and is strong enough to push you pretty far.
Drops: 2-5 Fish/2-4 Whale Blubber

Oh and maybe a frog and a salamander that spawn in swamps? Salamanders would be the cameleons of the swamp without color changing, and frog is good atmosphere!

Cool! Something I think some larger mobs are in order, however. As good as dragonflies and frogs are, I think big mobs like otters, boa constricters, and others. Also perhaps some mobs that arent IRL? I can provide ideas and perhaps some texturing. What do you think?
