When I installed the newest version of this it completely screwed up my Minecraft client. The list of save files wouldn't appear, and the game crashed when I clicked the "Create New World" button.

same thing happend to me, i keep crashing when i try to create a new world.
I installed version 2.5.5, and now I have ANOTHER problem. I created a new TerrainControl world, edited it as I wish, but now, when I try to open it, Minecraft freezes.

Could you work on a compatibility patch for Minecraft Forge? Between this and Wedge it seems (EDIT:all, not are) the good world-gen mods are incompatible!
I see why there are a lot of people asking how to use the mod, it's complicated. Things would certainly be easier if there was an in-minecraft GUI, but I know that adds a layer of complexity.
As some have observed on the Bukkit forum, the TC settings are a bit hard to figure out, even if you're able to get a grasp on them. It doesn't help that something messed up compatibility with some of the only decent config files available, probably the last update. One in particular had floating islands with 200 block tall 'trunks' dangling from them, and most of the trees were missing pieces in their trunks. Looked like the Endermen had a parade! XD
I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on the mod, but right now, I can't see myself using it in this state, it's far too user unfriendly.

I agree with you. I do have all of the features figured out, but it took me quite a while because of Khoorn's broken English. I also think he should describe in more detail what the different features do (for example, what in the heck does "Volatility Weight" do?!?!).

What happened to Volatility 1 and 2? For some reason the new config is MISSING these factors, now my server terrain sucks! i would NOT use this generator if it weren't for this features
First of all I want to say, thank you for bringing this to single player!
I threw it right into my current install and set up some custom settings, worked as advertised, even with my other mods. I was rather (pleasantly) surprised to see that both RedPower 2's and IndustrialCraft 2's custom ores still generated, I really didn't expect them to. RP 2's volcanoes and BuildCraft's oil spawns also generated without any issues. Unfortunately, the mods' custom trees did not, again, not that I expected them to.
So the question is: is there any way to get other mods' custom trees to generate? My first thought was BoB objects but I don't think it would work because it depends on block ids and there's no way to guarantee that all users will be using the same ids for custom blocks. Would it be possible to have that part of the generation hand off to other mods (actually to default since other mods would already be default) to check that block for a custom object? Perhaps a new tree type, MOD, that would signal the check? IDK, it seems like it would be extremely complicated but I wanted to put it out there, maybe someone can come up with a better idea.

You may change generation height in world config ( 128 or 256 )
