After testing on cows, I have found that if a cow is weakened enough for one arrow shot to kill, it will drop raw food even though it is on fire. If you hit a cow with full health once with a fire arrow and let it linger, it will drop cooked food. This is the exact same with mooshrooms too.
Yes, if the killing shot made by an arrow, it will drop uncooked food. (Unless the animal was on fire before you fired the arrow)
Do you know what happened when the unstoppable force met an immovable object? The immovable object and the unstoppable force exploded in an unimaginable amount of energy and caused the Big Bang to occur. Now get a job, philosophers, and leave it to the scientists.
I really like the idea of this mod; so much so that I've signed up to say as much! It's nice to see a mod-pack that tweaks the gameplay rather than adding a ridiculous level of content.
One suggestion I have for the present features is that maybe it would be more appropriate to use a torch to craft flaming arrows instead of a piece of coal. I also agree that bone drops from passive mobs should be a fairly low percentage chance rather than a certainty.
I have looked into using torches, but it presents a few issues. I am looking into that for the next release though.
Anyway, I have a whole slew of little tweaks and ideas that I would add to the game myself if I had the required knowledge, but as I don't I'll share 'em here. Feel free to use or reject them, with or without credit.
Thatch - Composed of wheat (4? 6? 9?) crafted together, it would add an appropriate early building material to the Minecraft world and fits with the game's recent leanings towards farming. Besides, who doesn't want to live in a thatched cottage at some point?
Redstone blocks - It seems a little inappropriate that we can compress all other mining products into blocks, but not redstone. I suggest making a redstone block that would be composed and broken up in the same manner as gold, iron, diamond and lapis. It could also emit light, at the same level (or lower) as redstone torches. This means it'd be useless for keeping mobs out (and thus preserving the usefulness of glowstone) but would still add a bit of variety and free up space in chests.
String from sheep - I wouldn't normally suggest this but it fits with the theme of adding a bone drop chance to passive mobs: perhaps make it so that sheep have a relatively rare chance of dropping string when they're killed? This seems much more balanced than simply being able to reverse-craft wool into string, even though that'd be the more logical step to take. Either way, it unlocks the bow for passive players. Another way to help balance this (and reduce the number of drops, bearing in mind you've added mutton) would be to remove wool drops from killed sheep entirely; meaning the only way to obtain wool is by shearing.
We have thought about this, however we don't want to make string to common. Maybe it just needs a low percentage of dropping. Also, about only getting wool from shearing: That would make it much more difficult to make a bed early in the game.
Mossy cobble/stone bricks - Craft seeds with cobblestone/bricks to yield their mossy variants. Perhaps make it so that it takes 4 seeds around 1 block to craft 1 mossy block, to make them a little harder to obtain.
Sandstone steps - I'm not sure why they're omitted in the first place, now that we have sandstone half-blocks to play with. It seems logical to give this building block the same number of variants as the other building blocks.
Sticks from other sources - Being able to craft sticks out of two sugar canes placed vertically in the grid, along with adding the ability to craft a wooden plank out of 4 sticks, would enable players to survive entirely within desert biomes. It'd also be nice addition if leaf blocks from all 3 tree types had a small chance to drop a stick when they decayed. Leaf blocks are theoretically the branches of trees, after all.
Apples - On a similar subject, it makes sense for leaves from regular trees to have a small chance to drop an apple when they decay. Perhaps make it a fairly small chance to keep the rarity value in place.
Other dungeon items - Further to this, it would be nice to see a passive solution for obtaining cocoa beans and saddles. The obvious solution for saddles would be to craft them out of leather, but finding a solution for cocoa beans would probably be more complicated. Perhaps make it an incredibly rare drop chance from, say, birch tree leaves?
These are very interesting ideas. Actually, we were considering creating a "cocoa tree" that grows the beans, so that it was actually possible to farm them too.
I have some other ideas but they're a bit more esoteric, complicated and/or of little interest to other players. I'll share a couple here, and I'll include the rest in another post if you're interested.
Technical fixes - The ability to run redstone up walls (and ceilings) would be awesome, as would the ability to be able to place trapdoors without the need for a vertical surface behind it. Or, at least, for a trapdoor to remain in place when the support block is removed. It'd also be nice to retain glass blocks and bookcases when they're destroyed, too; having to cook up a whole new batch of glass in cases of expansion or misplaced blocks is a huge annoyance, and bookshelves are rather expensive to make in the first place without having to go over it all again.
Minecarts/boats - Is it possible to make minecarts and wooden boats interchangeable? That is, make them two tiers of the same object type instead of two different items. The fragility of wooden boats is ridiculous and the obvious solution is to have an iron tier. Seeing as that's taken up with the minecart, it would be cool if minecarts could be used on water as well as rails; and the same functionality could be awarded to boats. They'd both need to be renamed to something a little more neutral, though.
Biomes - Is it possible to make birch leaves biome-compliant like the standard trees? Also, swamps are ugly: there's this great fix that I came across and thought it would be nice if you were able to come to some agreement with the maker of that mod to include it in your own, or to come up with your own solution for the jagged biome edge issue.
Vines - Is it possible to make vines climbable like ladders when they're against another block? If not, you could add vine ladders by using a recipe of two vines placed vertically in the grid (or 7 if you would prefer to keep the same recipe shape as regular ladders) just for some variation on the theme.
Just my tuppence worth.
We will look into the biome transitions. In fact, from reading the post, I think we may be able to include it as is.
Thank you for all your suggestions and support. :smile.gif:
Back from my 'extended vacation.' (Honestly, I just forgot that the outside world existed for the past week.) :tongue.gif:
Anyway...
@arctoa
You wouldn't believe how thrilled I was to see the support that you're giving us. dpk already commented on your ideas, and I basically agree with everything he said, so no need to restate everything. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I can guarantee sandstone staircases and biome transitions in the near future.
The name "YourCraft" is an un-trademarked term and is free to be used by anyone that so wishes. No one person can claim ownership of the name without the possession of a trademark for the term. "YourCraft" is a common term for some of the creations on the Minecraft forums. YourCraft Texture Pack YourCraft - 2D Minecraft YourCraft Server
All of these separate creations came before either of our mods, but we are still able to use the term "YourCraft" because it is un-trademarked. Yes, there definitely will be some confusion about which YourCraft is the YourCraft that others are specifically looking for, but that's a factor that we were willing to deal with when we created this mod.

ok! i think ill add a suffix to not confuse people
We are currently in the process of making version 1.1, which will fix some of the bugs of version 1.0, like fixing flaming arrows and the bone drop rate. Version 2.0, which will come later, will include tutorials and starter packs.

Right now, it's looking like the tutorial will take you through the process of surviving the first few nights. Basically, it will get you acquainted with gathering materials, crafting, and building a shelter.

Certainly. I'll add it to the list of possible features.
Yes, if the killing shot made by an arrow, it will drop uncooked food. (Unless the animal was on fire before you fired the arrow)
It had to be done.
Did you install the lang folder properly?
How?

We'll look into this.
That's a very interesting idea, I like it.

They have a chance of dropping both.
