I am having an issue with the egg teleporting around every time I try to use it, with or without a saddle. I even made a flatmap to make sure it had plenty of room. The only other mod I am running is TMI so that I can access the egg more easily.
Derp! Forgot modloader, it will probably work when I install it. NVM D: Sorry.
I tried the torch particles before and they look bad IMHO, they're too small and too low in resolution. The texture generator for the flames could be edited to look more like fireballs, but it's okay for now I think.
Aww now thats sad to hear, could you atleast make it use a different texture than the default fire-on-block texture, since its hard to edit that one to work for normal fire and the flamethrower fire.
Can you tell me what is preventing this from working on a MP server? Would it be the fact that all clients would need the mod installed for it to work?
Hopefully that's not the case; I don't know what Mojang's opinion is as far as third-party content goes, but I'm sure it's a stretch to hope that a Multiplayer Mod/Add-On system would come from them...
How bothersome, this forum doesn't have an edit button... Yeah, I found it; I'm blind.
Anyways, some possible ideas for future updates:
-- A Fire gauge GUI, and a custom keybind for breathing fire. Fill the gauge using Blaze Powder, and rather than having the dragon instantly spew flames everywhere set a keybind for controlling it
-- Different colored dragons if possible
-- A second life gauge above your own for your dragon, ~1.5x the size of the players
see attached image for a general idea of what this layout would look like. Looks like no attachments, either... oh well.
I would also suggest removing the whole flying through and destroying blocks, this is very abusive and is just a reason for server hosts to not download the mod if it ever makes it into SMP.

The edit button should be down at the bottom of your post, next to the "Quote" "MultiQuote" "..." buttons. It might not be enabled for new members, though.
Those are decent ideas, especially the fire gauge (and one for terrain destruction would be decent as well!). The displays might be a little bothersome if they were on-screen all the time, though. I don't need to know how much fire my dragon has left while I'm in a bedrock-level cave. Just when I'm riding or looking at the dragon would be better.
If you want different colors, both of my texture packs have alternate skins for this mod. DefaultPlus's is yellow, and Four Winds's is green.

I intended for the life and fire gauge to go away when you're off the dragon.
And, I meant separate entities so you can have more than one color dragon in one world, like sheep with different colored wool.
Perhaps later expanding on that and making differently colored dragons look much different, as far as having completely different models and textures, and possibly changes to their abilities. For example, red dragons shoot flames, blue spray ice, black poison, etc etc.
Will you be adding a download for the sourcefiles for the latest update? If you already had that planned, AWESOME. Cant wait for it to be readied. Thank you m8!!

I still have to code the mod practically twice, once for the client and once for the server. I'm doing lots of changes again for 1.2, so if I had implemented multiplayer by now, I'd have to start over all again.

I figured as much.
But be that as it may, are there any other options? If this mod is so "simple" my guess is it wouldn't be too hard to re-code it for the server as well.
I really don't know, all the modding work I've done has been Client-Sided, either that or it was an "Add-On", and the server-sided part of it was already handled for me. I do however have hope for this mod as it is certainly a MUCH better reward for clearing the game than a useless trophy egg, and Mojang has previously turned mods into native content for the game.

Hm, that sounds really interesting and I also like the mock-up. I'm not very experienced with GUI creation, though.

That will be configurable for multiplayer, of course.

The mod was simple at the point where I released the first version.
I guess the server side is much easier than the client side, but I want to watch the progress with the official API before starting a test. I'm currently stuck with the client version anyway.
okay, i have a suggestion ! what if the dragon mounts would spawn randomly AND be damaged by fire* and once you kill them they will drop a dragon egg for you to hatch your own dragon, the dragons would be hostile and attack on sight, and also diffrent colour dragon eggs for diffrent colour dragons
* - while i was trying to have a epic dragon battle using single player commands i spawned two dragonmounts but the other one wasnt effected by my sword or bow with fire enchantements, and it wouldnt take damage from the dragonmount breathing fire on it for 15 seconds aswell....
And for everyone who wants something cool in the sky, downloand single player commands and type: Spawnstack Dragonmount skeleton.

The fire thing is probably to prevent the dragon from getting harmed by its own fire. Theres probably no way to fix it either.
the only best Idea in this Forum is for ever this one from that guy with writing problems and walls of texts (the very first one, not the last one)
with magic and growing dragons and all that stuff from Eragon ^^
Seeing as how much support he gave him, I think he's talking about Honeydwell, who's ideas are pretty much entirely from the Inheritance series. =P
Personally, I'm not a big fan of them, but that's just me.

I'm planning to have at least one variation. Maybe a red one, not sure.
