I cab't wait for this mod myself, and I think the Technic launcher guys might be able to give you an adaptable API since waiting for the standard one could take forever.

The standard API is most likely coming out with Minecraft 1.4, at least from what I've heard.
The idea is that we will be able to work more effectively with the mojang API. We should also then be able to integrate community work, should it be necessary, with greater ease. When the modding API should also mark a point where minecraft is in a more stable place. Rather than myself or other coders trying to optimize or fix errors, we can spend time working on the mod.

hey can't you just ask some of the technic launcher guys to let them try and make your mod compatible with their launcher??
From what I understand Technic launcher is just a variation of the spout launcher.
We will eventually be using the Spoutcraft client but super duper modified.
Our intentions of separating from minecraft after the APi is released is so we dont have to rely on them or anyone else.
This is not a drag and drop mod. there has literally been nothing like this done in minecraft, we wont sully the DWCM by having to require stupid dependencies that arent needed.
The DWCM, like technic/tekkit will be using the open sourced SpoutCraft client. The difference is DWCM will require ALOT more work than tekkit/technic client.
By the time the Mod Division is done with the launcher/client you wont even recognize it.
Just please be patient and in the your patience will pay off
Thanks a bunch for the insights into the development and the fact that you interact with the community, it would have been a long wait with you silent. As I understand so far, the client mod will drastically change the gameplay and that it will be more focused towards adventure, so there will be less focus on building things? And are you releasing a texture pack for it or are you just modifying the original texture pack to accomodate the mod?

I'm gonna sound like the biggest derp alive..... but how is this Doctor Who Client mod going to work when completed? I get there's a story to repair the TARDIS, save the whole of time and space, battle aliens, kill Daleks and so on. But is this on one particular server that will be set up exclusively to the mod? Or could it be used for single player worlds? Are there any aspects one HAS to do to prevent catastrophe? I get a few basics to the mod, but I'm feeling really stupid and slow, because I'm so confused as well.

You cant go by what mojang says. Dont listen to them. They have said the api will be out in the next version for months.
Hell they promised they would have modding support way back in BETA 1.6 the day beta 1.5 came out.
Point im trying to make is take what mojang says with a grain of salt and dont put much stock into it.
Hell they cant even fulfil their promise to keep us updated with that twitter api bot....
or am i missing something that is important?
