GREAT NEWS EVERYONE. If Bennix let's me do the model then we'll have a model and textures that are just like the original only with fewer polygons in no time! Thanks to this I can make the model in 3ds max which I'm fairly experienced in. Look through the whole thread to see in-game examples of what this can do. All I need is Bennix's permission/approval. X3
Alright, You can go ahead and try if you want to.

Went through hell trying to find a premade model; eventually decided to just make my own. Here's what i've got done so far. I may have to tone it down on the polygons a bit though. All that's left are the wings and emote ball and some fine-tuning

Sorry if it's a bit bright XP
while this is good work i dont think it should be implemented. every thing in minecraft has only 90 degree angles. your rounded models would look more than out of place. remember if its not a right angle its a wrong angle. the model in the OP has actually grown on me. apart from its huge hands and feet i dont mind it at all. its the texture thats less than good.

"If it's not a right angle it's a wrong angle" Who are you to say that? Just cause you have a different opinion about what Minecraft should look like doesn't mean others' are wrong. Obviously you cherish the past of Minecraft. Some people like me look forward like Notch did when he made the enderdragon. Enderdragon wings aren't all blocky so why should a cute little chao be? In honesty you can't get very detailed with your right angles unless you make a ton of tiny little squares. I want a chao head to look like it's supposed to, not like it's wearing a beanie. Obviously we have different opinions but you stated an incorrect fact.
Now, it is also much more practical without having all the corners you get from a model made of a bunch of cubes in an attempt to round it. All those corners require more polygons and thus lag more than if you were to just slant it. Granted I did get too into the chao's body and head at first so it may have a few too many polygon's but I can always change it.
Model looks great, If you can go ahead and send me it i'll implement it.
Just finished it. I'll send you it in a second so you can atleast code it in and show what it looks like in-game for now since I still need to texture it. There may be just a few too many polygons so that's why I want you to test it to check for lag issues before I start texturing it.

to start my comment of "if its not a right angle its a wrong angle" was an attempt at humor, im sorry if this seemed arrogant in any way. i never intended to imply that anything else was unacceptable or that 90 degrees was some sort of inherit law among men. my point instead was that nowhere in minecraft is any other angle. and to introduce one would be too thematically foreign. while your model is great and looks far more like a chao it looks very alien in minecraft. your correct that the ender dragon isnt at all blocky (like a sheep for example) but i would add that this detail is achieved while using only rectangular polygons, and fits into minecraft better because of it. i agree feel that the teardrop shape of the chaos head is an unfortunate casualty. id love to see it worked out. and as youve said its obvious we have a difference of opinion, and id like to say im glad we could have a civil conversation on the matter.

Yes, I'm glad, too. Sorry, if you think that way and bennix does decide to implement my model and it works, but I believe that if Notch had the chance, he wouldn't have made the enderdragon with all the rectangular shapes. I can tell from how it looks like he tried to get as much detail as he could into the enderdragon rather than caring if it looked blocky enough. Plenty of people most likely disagree with your opinion and would like a more detailed, cute, -looking chao rather than a blocky alternative, so if my model works then it would be a better idea to satisfy the majority of people. I hope you'll be happy to know, however, that i did make the emote ball and tail into a cube because it kinda gave it a sort of minecraft style in a cute way without compromising the natural sort-of look of the whole thing.
If my model works out I'd be happy to join the current modelers. It'd help me practice my modelling anyways since I'm planning on creating a full game.
I decided to see if I could code the chao model into the game myself since I'm impatient as hell and turns out that the code I used to translate the 3ds max model into code had 3 little typos that produced about 1000 errors. Luckily I fixed the typo and regenerated the code, but now there's a ton of other errors of unknown origin. I'm sure Bennix will have better luck fixing them and might've been fixing them this whole time he's been gone since he's much more of a programmer than me.
Well this is embarrassing XD XP, meant to put this. Anyways, I'm on it!
He probably wont need it once I'm done; sorry

no problem, btw the model you made looks very good!

i have no idea. I'll try to figure out how to fix that, or just use external software to take a picture of it if it's that bad.
dude these look amazing, great job! i cant wait until its finished
