That one uses voxel sniper, which is a mod supported by the server. It also looks kind of terrible due to the inefficient re-rendering. We could do it better if we wanted such a feature (a fact of which I am still unconvinced). One of the advantages of FutureCraft is that because we have to trample all over base classes anyway to achieve our goals, we get the opportunity to fix anything that doesn't pass muster. For instance, the altered state of those chunks should be redrawn and cached beforehand so you don't end up with see-through holes in the world. We can do that.
I still don't see why you would want to give someone that kind of destructive power on a planet, though. It's just inviting griefing. Or it's inviting heavy-handed moderating and white listing entire planets.

Give me fire and a sword, and we'll see what happens
Why don't you have planets as "Disc-Worlds", like Terry Pratchett's books. It would be a good way to implement the lack of curvature of planets.
lol. That might be awesome.
Alternatively, you could just go immediately from "in space near the planet" (where the planet would be a single block or something, and other planets would be visible), straight to "on the planet's surface." No curvature needed.

If you'd like to help me out, I think the best thing you could do is check out my YouTube channel, even more than voting up my reputation, though that'd be nice too.

so, I've finally finished the ship i started a month ago..... although it has been awhile since I have checked out the topic, I am still very interested in this mod and I can't what until the mod is realeased (although I bet it would take awhile). I with I could help so, if I can do anything just tell me!
Dear Fr0stbyte,
If you read this, that is excellent. I have an idea so you can have ships move freely, collide, and all that. Get permission from the maker of the Zepplin mod, and decompile it. Get the key components that allow you to fly the ships freely, and use the multiplayer codes of movecraft (With permission), and your problem will be solved. Basically it will be Zepplin mod for multiplayer, and that will solve the basic movement for the ships, for the guns, I would suggest using some codes from Sdk's Gun mod, and just making the sounds and projectile more present. For example,for the rail gun on the hover tank, you can Re-Skin the projectile from for example the bazooka from Sdk's Gun mod and make it a bright red (This is an example) So it can have a star-warsy effect. Please reply to me what you think about my ideas.
@tell31
It will be multiplayer. Very much so.
The world editor thing will be problematic though. There will probably be a converter to turn a world into a conventionally editable map and back again.
@TeamGabe
I figured out how Zeppelin works a long time ago. And as cool as it is, it is way too CPU intensive to facilitate really big things. My system takes a very different approach, which unfortunately involves rewriting a significant portion of the Minecraft engine (which unfortunately is a very boring task which doesn't lend itself to making interesting videos. I don't think anyone will care about a demonstration showing how gimbal lock isn't a problem anymore).
However, when it is done it will be able to facilitate ships in the hundreds of thousands of blocks range with no noticeable penalty to framerate. For realz.
We've got other people doing sound and items. If you want your ideas to be seen by the other developers, post it here.
the point of this mod will be to travel between servers in spaceships.
*corrected*
Without servers to travel between, a large part of this mod will be lost.
I feel that singleplayer will be lacking in that respect. (then again, I feel that singleplayer is lacking compared to multiplayer in general)
Un-corrected: the ASP version will be similar to the AMP version, with the difference that you will be able to travel to worlds only to worlds that are either randomly generated as a sub-file of the world you started on, or between different save files, including their sub worlds. Sense make I do?
inter-server travel possibilities? awesome. would make multi-server whitelists interesting xD (and promote multi server blacklists)
but apart from that, i simply adore the idea of making a ship with blocks, then actually making it a entity. always wanted to do that with sea-faring ships...
as for single player vs multi player... between save files probably is best. although the different game modes make it annoying.

There's a good chance that will actually happen. In addition to planets, I mean. Planets are still on the table.
@Gidaio
The plan is for smooth transitions from dirt to orbit. No loading screens.

Alas, 'tis tragic.
where can we find the banners and stuff?
nvm
But, I'M BACK!

dude did u read anything! its going to single player as well so theres no point in do that sense it wont be compatible with world editors.
