I do not approve of "omg not telling wouldnt want to spoil the surprise!" remarks. First of all, the idea of finding recipes in the game on your own is an interesting concept. The problem is I HAVE A LIFE! Minecraft is already a very time consuming game (a good thing) but when you factor in having to ****ing figure out all the recipes in the game yourself, thats just not realistic. I would have to say that 99% of people who play Minecraft hold no reverence to finding the recipes on their own and look them up on the wikia or youtube. Recipes should be able to be "invented" at some point in exchange for exp. See the book mod in my signature if you agree (well my idea isnt necessarily part of the thread).
I did have a large article explaining about "research", a new feature, and how it would work, but my computer decided to crash, on account of "no internal hard drive detected".
I'll explain it some other time.
Might or might not be mod-related, but I wanted to get some opinions.
Saw this video on Reddit today:
Which got me thinking about whether we might want to do something similar in FutureCraft.
At some phase of the project, Copernicus will introduce world portals, which facilitate a seamless connection and transition between two remote places; much like what you would find in Portal or Prey, only this feature was intended to integrate invisibly. Now I am wondering if a showy application like in the video might be useful for something...
So here's my open question to everyone: If you had the ability to magically change the scene like in the video, how would you use it? It doesn't necessarily have to fit into FutureCraft, though that certainly wouldn't hurt.

Hmm... well that sucks. Sorry for the misplaced animosity. Also make sure to check out the book thread in my sig.
Anyways, I have provided a link to your thread from my thread. I am also going to provide a link from your thread to mine, as to create synergy. More people need to hear about these great space ideas, because they have such huge potential. A fantasy setting by itself is pathetic. Can you rain down hell on a planet with magic? With the way things are going Minecraft is too simple a game with how its handling the whole "fantasy" setting thing. Minecraft has huge potential under a scifi/fantasy mashup. I dont know whether or not you drew inspiration from my threads on this forum, or getsatisfaction, or if you simply came up with this all by yourself. Either way I dont care. I admire how youve put this all together but what about getting from point A to poit B? I address this more clearly in my thread, giving the player eras he has to go through before reaching space. Feel free if you like the idea to include it in your thread.
Seriously, there needs to viewable crafting recipes in the game. Go support this idea. Also click on my profile to view my space thread under find content.
So here's my open question to everyone: If you had the ability to magically change the scene like in the video, how would you use it? It doesn't necessarily have to fit into FutureCraft, though that certainly wouldn't hurt.
Well, the only thing I can think of that'd fit within the context of Futurecraft is a ship warp tunnel thing. Also could be used as an effect for a Star-Trek-like transporter thing, with a screen effect covering up the transition. Outside of Futurecraft, however, I think maybe like a series of doors that connect to each other magically through an empty end-of-time-like hub dimension.
Another idea I thought of could be like in that video, except automated. The game looks for identical block formations in the world and connects them rarely and randomly, moving you when you're not looking at the surrounding scenery. Might make for some interesting and cool but kinda annoying shenanigans. Absurdly hard to code, too.
Damn I lost count of the amount of copyrights you are breaking. But ignoring that, are you guys sure the inter-server travel thing is even possible?
Also there may be a problem with ship HP if you base it on number of blocks to blast through or something. Because that would just encourage people to make giant flying cubes with the core in the center, not fancy looking proper battleships.
Damn I lost count of the amount of copyrights you are breaking.
To the best of my knowledge, we are not violating the terms of use any more than any other mod out there. The Copernicus framework will be fully availiable as open-source, no money will be made off of it except for donations if even that, and modified base files will be distributed as change lists rather than decompiled source, like how Forge does it. The rest of the mod probably won't touch the original classes at all. All algorithms used are public domain or original work. Perfectly legit.
But ignoring that, are you guys sure the inter-server travel thing is even possible?
Short answer: absolutely. The long answer would take up more space than I'd like to commit to this board, but I will probably discuss it in great detail on my development log once we get to that point.
Also there may be a problem with ship HP if you base it on number of blocks to blast through or something. Because that would just encourage people to make giant flying cubes with the core in the center, not fancy looking proper battleships.
We will have to deal with that some way or another. The easiest way would be to have official sets of blue prints for each availiable ship, complete with predetermined ship sections and stats. But I don't like that idea.
Another idea was to have a large library of modules you research individually and piece together at universal socket points, sort of like the Armored Core series, or Chrome Hounds.
Otherwise, how do you prevent things like Borg cubes? Or should you, even? It seemed to work out pretty well for the Borg. I still would like to leave the design open to one's imagination if at all possible, so if you have any ideas for fixing the balance issue, I'd love to hear them.
:blink.gif:
DANG... That's UTTERLY INSANE. Hope it comes out soon...
GOOD LUCK!!!

Define Cute (choose 1): A) Creepers Aerbunnies C) Herobrine. If you chose A): You appeal to destruction and to stereotypes. If you chose B): You are a perfectly normal person, and enjoy the Aether Mod. If you chose C): Please leave the planet now before you set off a nuclear warhead--no one enjoys mass murders, however nice they might seem to you.
I was referring to the names taken directly out of Stargate and such, not that I have a problem with it, just warning you.
Also with ship HP, could possibly make it so that a hit on the ship directly damages the core no matter where it is, as well as taking away some blocks. The blocks being taken away would be purely cosmetic, unless a turret point gets hit which would kill the turret.
It would make the smaller battleships more viable too, since they would be harder to hit when ships are moving.
(though to make effective use of that tactic, heavy hitting turrets would have to have a slower projectile speed so that they can miss)
Give me some examples of where I've done this, and I may feel less inclined to...
Wait, I'll get a perma-ban if I finish that sentence.
Drone pad - "copied straight from Stargate" < your own words
Ion Cannon - Command and Conquer 4
MAC guns - Halo novels (but likely not copyrighted)
Naquadah - Stargate
Zero Point Module - Stargate
Trinium - Stargate
And that's just from a quick skim over the OP.
Plus there's a bunch of other terms which arn't copyrighted but I'm sure you could think of something more original. Eg: sub-light engines, hyperdrive, life sign detector.
But I don't understand why you are angry, like I said I don't care. But feel free to have a nerd rage fit if you want to.
On a different note, if you're gonna implement the drone pad you will need to nerf it considerably. In stargate a single drone can pwn any ship no matter the size, and drones seems to be able to take down more than 1 ship too (though it's never done in the series, you often see them just blast right through a ship then turn around for another go, which suggests it could be re-targeted to another ship instead)
Although you could keep the normal power of drones if they can only be used as the ultimate spawn point defence weapon, to stop people from spawn camping newbies. Would be a nice alternative to just having a protected area around the spawn, and stops invaders from completely taking over someone elses server.

RAGE FIT??!! RAGE FIT!!!!???? I'LL GIVE YOU A RAGE FIT!!!!!
But people have built/are building big-ass copies of Atlantis in their Minecraft worlds, and Garry's Mod has a Stargate mod that includes nearly everything from STargate, so how is that stuff copyrighted so harshly, I wonder? :dry.gif: If it's a discussion over how much originality there should be in the mod, then I understand.
Well from my point of view it's more a discussion of originality. The copyright stuff is just for encouragement, I don't know the specifics. Though I would think that stuff like remaking atlantis is just fan art, where as creating a new game almost wouldn't get away with it that easily. Especially not when modding minecraft is technically illegal in the first place (I'm definitely not against that though)
Alright, i have had enough of the copyright- stuff going on. Here is what i think names should be changed to...
Sub light engines should be Black, White, and Grey hole drives. These drives do NOT produce any energy, but rather consume them.
Black Hole Drive (BHD)- Black hole drives basically take a miniturized black hole, expand it to a size large enough to barely engulf the ship, then absorb itself. It would only open for a millisecond to avoid damage to the enviroment, otherwise you know what would happen. These are the slowest drives, taking prehaps 30 minutes to go from one internet end to the other. It uses 200 Energy per use.
White Hole Drives (WHD)- The same as black hole drives, except utilizing much rarer white holes. Due to the unstable nature of white holes compared to black holes, safety equipment such as a Gravitational Nullifier will have to be used (Explained later). This is much faster, taking prehaps 10 minutes to move across the Internet map. It uses 600 Energy per use.
Grey Hole Drives (GHD)- Grey holes are a mixture between a black and a white hole. To get one to work, you have to combine nearly equal black and white holes to get a properly working grey hole- too much black hole will make the ship come out smaller, and too much white will make the ship come out larger (But missaligned proportions could be good- read on). Grey holes are extrememly dangerous and hazardous, and only the largest and strongest of ships should carry them. Safety equipment including a Gravitational reverse engine, a Subspace warper and a Magnetic field amplifier will have to be used in order to keep the core stable. This is the fastest drive, taking about 1 minute to cross the Internet. It requires at least 2500 energy to use it, and this value randomly fluctuates every time you use it. Therefore you should have at LEAST 4000 energy available for it to use.
Creating the cores- TO create the cores, you will have to make a particle collider. To create Black holes, take extremely concentrated material (I suggest using Plasma obtained from stars) and put it in both ends of the collider. Powering the main tunnel with high amounts of energy will compress the cores in the middle into a black hole, miniturized. Unless you have an empty Core Containment Chamber ready in the center, the black hole will be lost. The tunnel will be made out of Iron, which will create a magnetic field to accelerate the cores. For white holes, you need a Magnetic Field Amplifier on both ends of the tunnel. Then put two Core Containment Chambers on each side with black holes in them and activate it. For Grey holes, two shafts will be needed for a core to be usable for space travel, and three for a Proportion Core. Use one black hole and one white hole to create a grey hole. You will need a specially modified Core Containment chamber to hold it, strengthened with the very same material used to make Black Holes. You also need a Magnetic field amplifier to make one.
Other ideas-
Gravitational Nullifier (GN)- These basically are large devices used to lessen the effects of gravity. They are crucial in the use of White Hole Drives. Crafted with Titan-steel alloy (A mix of titanium and Steel- made in a particle accelerator), control crystals and a Black Hole Core.
Gravitational Reverse Engine (GRE)- This is an upgraded version of the GN. Utilizing a white hole instead of a black hole, the crafting requirements are the same.
Core Containment Chamber (CCC)- This is a strong Titansteel alloy casing allowing the capturing and controlling of cores. Requires Titansteel alloy, Diamond Grade Glass and Control Crystals to make.
Magnetic Field Amplifier (MFA)- This is a powered device used to amplify magnetic fields. Essential components in Magnetized Particle Accelerator Cannons and advanced particle accelerators. Made with Iron, Titansteel alloy, Diamond Grade Glass and Control Crystals.
Proportion Core (PC)- a misaligned grey hole core. This can either shrink or enlarge objects that pass through, based on the type. Despite the enlargening effect, the amount of matter and energy stay the same. It provides a vastly easier way to compress objects needed for advanced components, and a way to make a small ship seem much bigger. Can be dangerous however.
SubSpace Warper (SSW)- This is an extremely powerful object, made from colliding two white holes and two black holes together. It is essential for a Grey hole drive to be used, but strangely, this object is so unstable that it stabilizes itself by its very existance from collapse. It doesn't need a modified CCC to hold it, and it is powerful enough to be used as a form of Ammo that can vaporize small ships. It is innefficient however, so use it only if essential for survival.
TitanSteel Alloy (TSA)- This is Titanium and Steel compressed together in a particle accelerator, or a Proportion Core. Vastly stronger than any other material, and a core component in any ship.
Diamond Grade Glass (DGG)- This is glass strengthened with the compressed atoms of Diamonds. Nearly 10 times as dense as diamonds, it requires a particle accelerator to compress diamonds into this glass.
Magnetized Particle Accelerator Cannons (MPAC)- This is in essence a Magnetic Rail Gun, capable of firing any ammo that is magnetized. Can support Iron, TitanSteel blocks, TitanSteel Kinetic Cubes, and any type of Hole Drive.
And that's all of my ideas. (Note that all of these ideas are taken from my futuristic RP's me and my friend have every day at lunch.)
@Fenway
I'm going to nix the resizing idea on the grounds of technical difficulty without any substantial benefits to justify it. As for the rest of the stuff, I dunno. Sounds kind of complicated and also unrelated to any of the elements we have outlined. In any case, blocks and objects aren't my department so this is just my unofficial opinion.
...but now that you mention it, how were we going to do propulsion and FTL? I vaguely remember something about ring gates in the old topic but I don't remember what was decided.
I did have a large article explaining about "research", a new feature, and how it would work, but my computer decided to crash, on account of "no internal hard drive detected".

Interesting, the Futurecraft Forums has more posts than this page.
The milestone is somewhat lessened by the fact that 8 of those posts were just you counting down. In a row.
