I have to work on futurecraft for 3 years?
Awwww...
To get this mod to the point where everyone wants it, it will take that long (as a conservative estimate)
But by then there are so many people like me that are currently learning java that will be able to help with later development that many of the original people may leave.
Just think of how many people on the forum asking if they can help saying that they know some java, or are learning java, etc.
But within one year the major parts of the mod will be done and it will be at the state of most mods, where there are all of its basic features done and it is mostly bug-free.
and I'm not saying that it will stop at 3 years, it is labeled as 3+ because I see this as one of the mods that will constantly be requested for updating.
The developers have to opportunity to add a huge part to minecraft that no other mod fully allows.
IC&BC add power and machines; Zeppelin adds small ships; and no mod has inter-server travel. This mod has the opportunity to do all of that and more.
So how would inter-ship space battles look? Would it be like each server controlling a ship, and the people on each server are working together to defeat the other ships?

If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
Can it handle the load though? I mean, not only will it slowthe server down wirh so many worldedits, but we are running out of building space as it is. I Asked tell31 about a possible solution, but i think hes still mulling it over.
mulling it over, procrastinating, not knowing what the h*ll i'm doing.
its awesomeness, the dictionary needs a change :tongue.gif:. and i had a question, how are you going to let the damage change the blocks of the spaceship when it is for the engine like a boat, will the spacship then constantly update the structure?
Haven't decided for sure, but probably you will have an assortment of modules that are assembled together which will make up the sections of your ship and will each have hitpoints and other stats. Of course you would still be able to customize on top of it.
Instead of each class of ship having a specific speed, the speed could depend on the number of blocks and the types of blocks on the ship. Each type of block would have a specific value that is used to calculate the mass of the ship, which would then determine how fast it can accelerate and its maneuverability. I don't know how hard it would be to code this but I think it's a really good idea.
Should I post this on the Futurecraft forums as well?
EDIT: This could also be used to determine the damage taken from collisions.
For some unknown reason, I have decided to build one of every kind of space ship. Currently I have a drop ship, frigate, and a cruise ship, and about a third of a battle cruiser.
I used to think that the ships were fairly small, but after constructing them, I see that they are really massive...
Have some pictures, noting that with the absence of the mod, I had to use replacement blocks, with notes attached to say what I am replacing them with.

Drop ship
Frigate
Cruise ship
Those are small ships compared to most of those on the server. But I do see those as a realistic size for when you have to work for your materials.

By the time you have space craft, you probably won't be mining by hand anymore, so it should be fine to dream big. I mean, they'll still be expensive as hell to make, but it won't be grounds for ragequitting if you lose one.

That's my problem. The cruise ship is only 2,700 blocks, near the bottom edge of the class. And then, I think that the assault ships can be up to 350 times that size and I just think; "wow, there is really no chance for these larger ships to be built without using inv-edit or similar..."
I still think assembling a ship from pieces Armored Core style is the way to go. It wouldn't even have to be that strongly defined, just having presets like hallways, rooms, hull plating, etc. you could copy/paste in-game would go a long way towards taking the tedium out of ship construction.

Then that could be solved by making ship hull materials common, or able to be produced to large numbers of blocks through further levels of refinement. Like you could take a block of Iron and turn it into 16-32 blocks of some alloy that can only be used in ship hulls

Ah yes, a very efficient method and would take the pain out of mining for days non-stop. It will still be a pain constructing the ships though...

Maybe there could be a machine that automatically places blocks in a straight line between two points (providing you have supplied it with the desired materials). For example if there is a large flat area on a ship you are building you could use the machine to fill the area with the desired blocks, and then go and add the aesthetic touches after it has finished.

pretty much, yea

Ha ha, I'd hate to be you!
oh humor

It could work but... I'm not sure.
That's just the basic idea. I'm not very good at explaining my ideas.
