After reading all that... yeah... for all intensive purposes, it's a new game. Lol. Minecraft was just the inspiration.
Ever hear of Infinity: The Quest for Earth? You should check them out at some point. They're making a game from scratch that has, basically, an infinately generating universe. Tons of ships (including capital vessels). Being able to lead roving bandits to sprawling interstellar empires. It's pretty B-A. Discovered it, like, a decade ago. Still being worked on though. Good things are worth waiting for. And honestly, you might as well go for broke and develop something all your own dude. If you've got the skills and invested the time you might as well get compensated for it. Who knows, you might be the next Notch. And Notch strikes me as the kinda guy that would be flattered by all you have accomplished through Minecraft's inspiration. Unlike Bethesda who likes to sue people because they're assholes.
If I may throw something into the hat... I played the **** out of Freelancer. ESPECIALLY mods that had capital vessels. People always abused Capital Ships and under powered them. I think your system should be fun for fighters, but fighters, alone, shouldn't be able to take on a battleship. Heavy bombers and larger vessels should be included in there to take on capital vessels and anything less would be fail. Don't leave out a cockpit view... sometimes we like to have a view from the bridge. EVE didn't have that for AWHILE. Hated that. Why I never played EVE.
IF you should make your own game... Then Dropships for infantry, drop pods are always epic, armor and mechs. Dropships for vehicles and tanks. PLEASE don't make an auto-landing system like in Planetside. I didn't practice landing a HAVOC dropship on a dime in Tribes II to have a computer tell me I couldn't land a volkswagen beetle in a football field. But this is if your game goes solo (which would be superb for what you're talking about. There are no epic space-to-planet-combat games),
Always wanted to make an awesome game. Just... don't have coding skills. Actually... I totally lack the patience for coding all together. So kudos to you for that. More importantly... taking your fans input and doing your best to include everything that makes a game complicated (no one likes a retard proof flight mechanic like in BF2 or Planetside) and f**king epic. MOST importantly... taking the time to do it right.
My 2 cents. Sorry.
We've considered leaving Minecraft and using a built from scratch engine, but we decided that would be a bad idea for three reasons:
1: We lose the advantage of Minecraft's milllions of fans.
2: It would be far more work to make the engine from scratch than to modifiy Minecraft's engine to suit our needs.
3: Someone is already doing that: www.blockaderunnergame.com
Hey guys! This mod looks soooo cool!!!! I have just one quick Q, is there any sort of ETA for a beta we can test? I know there is a LOT of work for you guys to do, but it would be sweet if you guys could push out some kinda of beta. Also I would Love to host a FutureCraft Server if you need any servers to test on. Thanks! =)
i jsut thought of another idea for this:
instead of having singleplayer and multiplayer, all you have is one option: Play
how this would work, is you play single player, until you can make an enclosed area that could fit a warp core in it. TADA! you can now go on servers.

How might it be possible to move a stargate? They can do it in the show, but I don't see anything here about being able to move it. It's not easy, the thing weighs 32 tons. Can you please respond, preferably pm me, becAuse there are a lot of posts being made, I could easily never find my response. Thanks! By the way, hello2u08, that is a great idea! You should get that idea to Notch to see if he will implement it!
There's a ton of stuff that got written out of order a few months back.
And keep in mind, there will be releases before the finished product is done. Just, there isn't anything you can play with atm. Heck, right now I'm not even developing within the Minecraft source.
@Ray1
If it's compatible with Forge at all, it will be a port of the thing, and I can't guarantee full functionality.
@MR_HelloBye
32 whole tons, huh. I guess you're right; there's really no way to move anything that massive in a game like Minecraft.
@hello2u08
For the sake of game balance, you will need to be on a administrated servers the whole time you engage in multiplayer. Still, no reason you couldn't set up your own server.

thats a good amount of progress for how much you have in this mod and how the time since you started
I cant wait for this mod! This plus the battle-tech mod and hell my friends and I will have a battle-tech universe for everyone to try to invade! Q though Think you can allow compatibility with industrial-craft? Well with the energy and whatnot As they are both Unit based potentially having refill stations that passively gather energy for your warships, or potentially using the solar panels to gather energy-on-the-go and maybe making energy weapons slightly less effective when they hit the solar-panels and potentially converting the energy weapons damage into useable EU?
Sorry if Im exited but damn this will be great with the battle-tech mod!
The more complex the mod, the less likely it will be compatible with Futurecraft, and Industrialcraft is a very complicated mod. I won't say no for certain at this point, but don't start making plans to use it. Still, if we can't include it, we'll have some alternative to fill that niche.

Oh dont worry about it, I just figured it will give a few extra ores a few extra bits and bobs, the macerater would be useful for doubling ores though, and well build-craft would make it easyer to craft ships perfectly the same over and over so you have fleets of ships that match perfectly Err well I suppose add something similar of you can

The battle armor idea sounds amazing O_O
This mod sounds really intensive, not to mention massive. I hope this comes to fruition though, because it sounds like a cool idea. My only problem being it seems like it would realistically take a while before any one civilization/world is able to get enough technology to go to space/build armies of mechs. But what does it matter, mechs and ships that blow stuff up are cool :U

We will have a shipyard system that will allow you to build and save your ships (in a schematic file) in a holographic creative/World Edit style of build. You will then give the shipyard the materials it needs fro the ship, and it will assemble it for you. This way, you don't waste tool uses and time building conventially, and it allows you to download other peoples ship designs, as well as upload your own.

Plus our power system and theirs wouldn't make sense together.
But anyway, isn't Futurecraft going to played as an independent game to Minecraft, meaning that you can have Vanilla (or modded) Minecraft and Futurecraft running simultaneously?
So far this seems like an EPIC blend of Gundam, Gurren Lagann, and every other sci-fi in existence that amounts to what could be the biggest minecraft project since the Aether mod. The detail of it all and the shear amount of determination it must take to code makes this idea awe-inspiring. I thought the fact that anyone could think up the the uber-simple and fun formula for minecraft was a miracle in and of itself, but this? This REDEFINES minecraft mods and overhauls! I cannot even begin to imagine how complex of an imagination you have to be able to create a concept this in-depth and amazing from scratch! I salute you fr0stbyte124 and all others working on this project, and you have my full support all the way to the mod's completion and beyond.
Do you guys have a wiki? I would love to read a compiled text of progress and future plans and such, this sounds cool
I would love to explore the interstellar void.

We don't have a wiki, maybe I should make one...
Currently, most of the progress is stuff non-programmers like you or me don't understand, but without which the game wouldn't work. No content that you can use yet.
For future plans, you can try the forums. Everybody has ideas about what kind of content the mod is going to have, I'm almost beyond listening to anyone else though. I often change the plans for the mod based on what I think is fun, or what the other DEVs think is fun. Or practical. Can't forget practical.

Dropships are planned, and will be ofc pilotable.
no i realy mean the percent done i heard it would take about 4 to 5 years to finish this i think

But progress is exponential.
Won't need to be. Futurecraft will be run as a separate game, like the Technic Mod Pack, or Spout.
