Looks like a bunch of custom messages to the server combined with an idiotic lack of sanity checks. If we wanted to do it officially, we would make it a lot nicer looking, though that video seems to be a good indication of why that wouldn't be a good idea.

this should work much better than the other thing and they will probably be more willing to help you for there deep space benifet and stuff
That one uses voxel sniper, which is a mod supported by the server. It also looks kind of terrible due to the inefficient re-rendering. We could do it better if we wanted such a feature (a fact of which I am still unconvinced). One of the advantages of FutureCraft is that because we have to trample all over base classes anyway to achieve our goals, we get the opportunity to fix anything that doesn't pass muster. For instance, the altered state of those chunks should be redrawn and cached beforehand so you don't end up with see-through holes in the world. We can do that.
I still don't see why you would want to give someone that kind of destructive power on a planet, though. It's just inviting griefing. Or it's inviting heavy-handed moderating and white listing entire planets.
Found this neat world viewer a while back. It's called Eihort, and it is by far the most powerful fly-though map viewer I have ever seen. In the next version to come out, the developer is planning to release the source along with the app, which is exciting news for FutureCraft. Depending on how it works, the Eihort algorithms may very well help us with planet rendering.
Hoping it's not just utilizing a bunch of SSE operations or leveraging the GPU. Can't emulate those in Java.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am a bit confused as to what everyone thinks the final product will look like. I think that we had planned to have each server or world or whatever start on a planet. I'm not sure if this would be an infinitely generating planet or not. There should probably be a limit just so it is more realistic where you have to do the best you can with what you have. I assumed that each planet would have one or more moons of varying size and quantity. Dr. Mackeroth, from my memory, doesn't want asteroids. Tell me what I have right and wrong please.

People can be whatever they want on the internet. I wonder why so many of them chose to be stupid.

When you register on the FutureCraft forums, you get a confirmation email. If you didn't receive one, either something is messed up on the registration form or the email isn't getting delivered for whatever reason.

Planets will be finite and roughly Spore scale, so that it's possible to render them from orbit. One server per planet, and one server for per either solar system or all of space, depending on how much stuff space ends up having. Heavenly bodies will have realistic orbits, albeit at much shorter distance to the sun and with short periods (it would be fun to see other planets rather than just points of light). Planets in the same system will be visitable with sub-light engines. Extra-solar planets will take either FTL or a warp gate depending on what we end up deciding on.
Dr. Mackeroth doesn't want asteroids, but I think they would be cool, so I'm gonna put it down as a 'maybe' :smile.gif:.
would this work the same in single player but without travel between servers? Also if possible could you post more screenshots or videos to give an idea of where your at as far as development, and of course videos of spaceships destroying things is always nice >: D
@Simonbuilder
Shiva says there is no record of you ever trying to register. I guess try again or with a different name and hope for the best.
@seer1025
I'd love to post new videos, but they would look the same as what we already have. It's all under-the-hood work right now. Will definitely post something new as soon as we have something interesting.

right, but how will the space travel work for ssp? obviously you cant travel to servers while in single player
@seer1025
I suppose it would work similarly to entering the nether, where the client is in charge of all the worlds and unloads the inactive ones from memory. Can't say for sure how well that will work until we try it.
@Simonbuilder
It is a mystery. If you have another email address, or even just a throw-away account, I guess try that instead.

ok last question, would it work similiar to the milleniar mod where you can trade with npc towns and fight with them? I tend to overlook things, but it sounds like the only combat will be with other players?

nice i'm still working on that self imposed achievement. 70% done =)

If I make a mistake on something, feel free to correct me. I'm always open to improvement.

Especially since there are like 30 people registered there XP
