Okay, so as many of you know, potions are included in the 1.9 Pre-Release. Recently, there have been many changes for the alchemy system, and I'd like to share some of my ideas and possibly offer a modification to Minecraft with these ideas implemented.
Basically, the current system (in the 1.9 Pre-Release 2) revolves around the user distilling potions using ingredients at a brewing stand. In the first 1.9 Pre-Release, potions were created by mixing ingredients using cauldrons to hold the mixture. These two methods of creating potions are distinctly different.
The brewing stand looks almost like a distillation tool, and it could act as one. After the user creates a potion using the cauldron, they could pick the potion effects they wish to keep by putting the potion in the brewing stand. Assuming that potions can have a maximum of four potion effects, the brewing stand would then separate the potion effects into four potions.
For example, someone mixes several ingredients at a cauldron and creates the "Mystery Potion". "Mystery Potion" has the following effects: increased speed, increased health regeneration, hunger, and decreased strength. The person who made the potion does not want to use it as it is because of the negative effects, so they put it in the brewing stand. The brewing stand distills the potion into four potions, one for each potion effect it has: "Speed Potion", with increased speed; "Endurance Potion", with increased running endurance; "Hunger Potion", with hunger; and "Exhaust Potion", with decreased strength. Then, the player decides to recreate their dream potion. Instead of adding ingredients into the cauldron like they did to create the "Mystery Potion", they mix the "Speed Potion" and the "Endurance Potion" to create a "Runner's Potion", with increased speed and increased running endurance.
I understand that the brewing stand might overhaul the cauldron altogether, but I wanted to introduce this wonderful idea.
Also, since the alchemy system can be open-ended, potion effects can be very creative and fun to work with. I have many potion ideas to post, but I will post them later. Just imagine a list of potions inspired by RPGs.
Post some ideas or any feedback, I'll make this into a modification for Minecraft once the official 1.9 update is released.
