Bio was a term used in Final Fantasy to describe poison magic. Using that definition, we are making a new poisonous biome that spawn underground in large caverns.
It will be similar to the underground jungles in Terraria, an entire biome between the 15th and 30th depths levels. The new biome will come complete with its own mobs and plant life.
Bio: A poisonous substance akin to water in most aspects. It poisons on contact with cave spider poison. Bio Muck: A residue left at the bottom of Bio pools made up of dissolved tissues from the Bio's Victims. Think like lava, it will suck players deep into its clutches, and will not let go without a fight.
Cave Mold: A mold that grows on stone the way grass grows over dirt. Allows Bio mobs to spawn. Cave Creepers: A new vine that grows when Cave mold spread to stone walls. Deep red and vainy, it allows you to make a healing potion out of the nutrients it absorbs from the walls. Odd Fungus: A strange mushroom that provides a 15% speed boost, but gives you food poisoning. (like raw meat) Poisonous Gooball: Bio Slimes drop these. They look like slime balls, but you can throw them like snowballs to poison mobs. Healing potion: Made from Cave creepers and odd fungi, this will heal actual hearts.
Biome specific mobs!
Bio Goo: Poisons on contact and drops 0-2 Poisonous Gooballs. Bio Zombie: Likely a victim of the Bio Pools, this zombie will poison you on contact. Poisonous Stalker: Re-skinned creeper with a very special secret power. Cave Spiders: Cave spiders will spawn normally here.
The New biome will spawn like a dungeon, so it can spawn under any other biome. New features to be added as I think them up.
We are looking for coders and texture-ers. Any support or feedback is appreciated. Thanks :smile.gif:
It is supposed to be overly dangerous. It will add new dangers to the underground. They will be rare, but finding one will be a challenging adventure, with many rewards. I am still thinking about how to make it more profitable, and more rewarding.
I am also open to suggestions on what to add. We aren't looking for new mobs, because adding them is a pain. We will consider, however, any new blocks, items, and ideas that you pose. It really is appreciated.
maybe the bio can emit a very weak light (redstone torch level) and the bio muck a stronger light (torch level or magmna level) with a green, or whatevercolor this liquid is (i'm still not sure if tinted lights are possibility right now though :sad.gif:)
add a third type of giant mushroom with some bioluminisence.. (something that would tint the walls purple would also help a lot the ambience... but again not sure iif tinted lightsources are posible :sad.gif: ) maybe the giant version of odd fungi? :smile.gif:
(Edit: I just read your third post .. :sad.gif: so feel free to ignore the rest :tongue.gif: )
and make the mobs reskins placeholder until you can add interesting mobs instead :sad.gif: some form of giant dragonfly/wasp/mantis and some sort of centipede would complement pretty well the errie feel, and instead of bio goo (i'm asuming they are like slimes?) maybe some sort of.. bio ghost? ectoplasmic entities wich spawn on the bio pools and float outside to harm intruders :ohmy.gif:
(blue spiders are a good idea .. and probably easier to find normal slimes too maybe :0)
I don't know how limited you are rigt now with block IDs, but you could also add a resource block called "bioclay" which spawns only on biopools (would be pretty hrd to harvest due teh hazardous enviroment) and maybe could be used on biobricks (emit a very faint light) and as a base for making a clay golem core, letting you create friendly clay golems to help you on your adventure? :ohmy.gif: (this would make finding one of these biomes higly desirable I hope)
I'm aware that much of this suggestions can be very challanging to implement right though.. so take it like that... just suggestions :smile.gif:
I really like most of your suggestions. I have been wanting to add an eerie light effect, but wasn't sure how to accomplish it.
While I am not sure how to change light color, I am sure it is possible due to having seen several mods change light color before.
I really like the idea of making Bio semi-luminescent. But I am conflicted when it comes to giant Odd Fungi. I am not sure I want them to be able to grow, because that would make farming them too easy.
I also agree that new mobs, such as large poisonous insects would fit the theme of the biome better, but me and my partner don't have experience with modeling, that it, making the shape of a new mob. Re-skinning existing mobs and giving them new effects is easy by comparison. If someone with experience in that area would like to help us, I am sure new, original mobs will not be such a dream anymore.
I like the idea about Bio clay, but maybe you have to put Bio muck into the furnace in order to dry it out into clay? Your clay golem could function sort of like wolves, following you and attacking when you are hurt. That could be a lot of fun. And make them unable to be killed. Once their life depletes, you can restore them to normal with regular or bio clay.
