Fantastic mod, my friend!! I have to say something that ought to be added to the OP:
The Zeppelin's movements will be mapped in an E-->W motion going forward. This is pretty important when making airships, 'cause you don't want an airship that goes sideways! ;P
...or DO you? :3
Also, can you add a slower reverse speed for zeppelins?
Like I said, fantastic mod!!
I can't believe I forgot to add that: Currently all crafts start facing -Z (toward the setting sun). Once I learn how the directional block placing works I will fix that.
Also, there are TWO Gui API mods you could use.
I'll check this out for sure. Until then, options.txt for altering controls. I've added a link to a keyboard scancode page you can get numbers from.
now your list doesnt include iron gold or diamond blocks? are they usable or no? btw i went to launch my airship and the front wasnt attached properly so had a massive hole in it.
edit* could you make it so one could destroy blocks from the vessel in flight? this will make it more fun when you release the smp version as i will probably be attaching tnt canons to it/tnt bomb ports.
Any block that ISNT on that list is usable, the plan is to move the list to a config file so you can customize it.
This mod is amazing and not amazing. It crashes if I want to fly something in the air that is 4x4x3 big and these materials were in it: glass, planks, door, controll block thing and a torch. Why does it crashes my minecraft ??? Can you fix this ?
Also speaking of crashes... don't fly around with wheat plants, becuase dirt isn't recognized it moves the wheat plants... crashy crashy..
Some things that should be added
1.Fuel
2. Custom recognizability list (so you can specify what blocks you want to be recognized (you could also make it optionally(config setting) recognize all blocks attached to the block below the controller, basically requiring it to be built 1 block above ground)
3. Balloons (UP movie reference)
4. Its way to easy to craft.. should be more expensive
5. Better controll system:
A. Double left click puts in in fly mod and takes it out
B. Destroy it with left click (like any other block)
C. Right click opens GUI where you can put fuel (are store crap, also contains frequency)
6. Large ship recognizability
A. Instead of using 1 box a larger ship will require mutiple boxes are the same frequency (IE if a ship is 1000
blocks larger it would require 2 boxes)
B. Optimize movement code so ship only the area in which your looking visually moves (this means that the under
part of your ship won't visually load saving calculations)(if you put it in hover mode the whole thing loads, or if you were were to look at say the staircase of your ship it will load)
7. Make it recognize and move entities instead of them falling threw (minecarts, boats)
8. Make it recognize 'contained' water
9 Also a sitting block, basically a block you can place, and sit on (for novelty purposes, like building a plane.. i don't feel piloty enough xd)

Another idea-
Make ships considerably slower the larger they get. So a tiny ship with the same movement block moves a ton faster than a giant airship.
Edit: I would like to mention that I thought this was some decent vehicle mod that added an air vehicle that looks like a zepplin, but it was instead way better than that.
So what?
Its a mod. It's already unbalanced.
To balance it out, maybe we should even make 20 more recipes requiring 10 diamond blocks, obsidian, and some redstone, per 5 blocks connected to the controller.
It's a great mod right at this moment, why ruin it?
and yes, adding more trivial ******** ruins many mods.
and besides, again, so what if it's unbalanced?
I mean, real reasons why.
Because "It ruins the feel" doesnt count.
Mods should enrich the game, not be justified cheating. Being able to have a massive airship is ****ing huge. Something like that should be earned. It's basic game design.
If you want everything handed to you, just install TooManyItems.

Think of it like this...if you create an awesome airship and use the control block, you put in a LOT of time and effort designing and making your awesome airship. The block simply makes it move! at best you could maybe complicate the recipe and maybe add some rare ingredients to it but thats about it
the mod is installed i can place the control block i left click it it will realize the size of the ship and i can't place/unplace blocks on the ship but i can't move the ship. http://imageshack.us/f/856/20110720234119.png/
Also:
I have balancing suggestions that would provide balance in scale with the size of the ship, and minimize the overall number of additional blocks and items:
When the control block parses the size of the ship, have it check for two different types of blocks: Propulsion blocks, and levitation blocks. If either is present in insufficient quantity, the ship cannot move or cannot fly. You might even determine speed and maneuverability based on the number of propulsion and levitation blocks present, but that's another level of intricacy.
sample additional blocks:
balloons - every 4 balloon blocks lets you levitate one other regular block
helicopter blades - every helicopter block lets you levitate 20 other regular blocks
sail - every sail block lets you propel 5 more blocks
jet - every jet lets you propel 20 more blocks
You can have the ship consume fuel (inserted via the control block) based on the total number of fuel-using blocks such as jets and helicopter blades.

I like it! I know MoveCraft uses Wool as the 'baloons', that could work here as well (plus then you get multi colors). I will add it to the list of things to try to implement.

another balance to add to it would be to link it all to the control block by redstone. or that control blocks must be attached to these devices and then connected to a master control of some kind by redstone.
all I can say is AWESOME!!! I've been waiting for something like this for a long time! But, definitely add a properties file that players can edit to choose what can be a part of the aircraft, and continue to work out the bugs!
1. Please add the version in the title, that way we don't have to go looking for the updates.
2. I think that a way of balancing it would be that it goes slower for each block. So it would be like f=0.01^z where z=1+y^0.99 where y=# of blocks and f is the slow factor. This would be calculated every time you create a new ship, except possibly with different numbers. So the bigger your ship, the slower it goes, but the more blocks you have on your ship, the less each block slows your ship, but make sure that it doesn't backfire and make bigger ships faster.
NICE MOD! JUST LIKE MOVECRAFT ON BUKKIT BUT A LOT SMOOTHER I WAS thinking of making a mod just like this after learning java now u did the work thanks! Can I have the source code though? I want to learn from it thank u.

Or, better yet, make a full scale one and use it with this.
it is a dark day for the rebellion

[Done] overlaps with the commands so i can't change them..could you do something about that?
(Edit) apparently it has to do with one of my mods.
