Don't know if I have enough credibility to suggest this, but a tameable mob in the form of K9? Just an idea, this seems rather excellent.
Hmm that's a good idea, Pretty much it would just be a wolf. Just you use something other then meat.
On a side note: Things that need to be done before I will allow what I have coded to be released as an alpha/to be tested.
To be done by others (in the group or not idk):
Models/Texture Dalek
Texture Cat person
Texture Tardis Key
Things that I need to do:
Get the flesh working
Complete the lasers for daleks and cybermen
Finish/come to a reasonable conclusion to the FOB Watch/Getting the Tardis key
I think i'll leave the weeping angels as they are for now, unless someone wants to make a texture and model for them. Another side note currently the tardis spawns as an obsidian block (i think i'll change it to look like a lapis lazul block) and when you right click an "unlocked" tardis (or right click on a locked tardis with the tardis key) it takes you to the nether. It's currently a quick conclusion to it. And will obviously not be the final stage.

Errm... I already did the cat people and sade1212 already did the key... at least I think it's a key... it's a file named key and it looks like a key.
Confusion?
Idea: Infostamps.
Found on Cybus. If altered by a sonic screwdriver, allows the player to save his/her inventory. If the player dies, the infostamp will respawn with them (much like the fobwatch). If opened, re-fills the players inventory to what it was saved as (aka: If I had a diamond, and used a Infostamp to save it, then died, and then opened it, I would get a diamond again).
This sounds really awesome! May I just add that perhaps there should be more emphasis on tricking mobs (especially daleks) into traps as after all dr who is not fly about combat. It would also allow you to do more with the sonic though you could set it to stun mobs like daleks. It would also be nice to throw in some new blocks perhaps you could make a laser grid (like a portal) which is activated by redstone (or the sonic) which could be great for killing daleks. Anyway this started off as a short comment then turned into a ramble so I should wrap up.
Your point is true, but I don't know how that would be possible in the minecraft world. Maybe we will expand the world for stuff like that after we make the mod.
The image of the frantic Doctor scenes did come inot my mind, but it's hard to replicate that in minecraft. You don't get to pull levers and press buttons and twist knowbs. It'd be push a single button on a block, click a block, pull a lever on a block, click a block. And you can't run. It just seems like a bit of pointless roleplay. Of course that essentially takes somethign away form the whole point of the mod, but I don't think that kind of thing is easy to achieve- just like trying to achieve running down corridors- it'd have to be all closed off and we'd have to make sure the mobs follow you properly and you can't acctually run very fast so... I just think it's something that's not needed. I don't think it'd be all that fun. I'd want to go out and explore, not walk around my console clicking!
I agree that it would be hard, and you have to remember, we aren't building the tardis yet, and we don't know how it feels. Trust me, We will tune this mod for gameplay, and not just make something and throw it out there, I WANT this mod to feel good when you play it, So maybe It won't work out how I feel it will, or maybe even have two different tardis, one with simplified console and one with more advanced, at this point, who knows...
Suggestion: Make the Sonic Screwdriver harder to craft.
Instead of redstone, perhaps glowstone dust?
I don't feel that would make it much harder, also- we need a way to recharge it, maybe you can't just build it so to keep working sonic you have to make something really expensive or keep crafting sonics which could get expensive.
must have a bow tie and a fezz, but make it so that you find a fez randomly and just as randomly River Song comes and destroys the fez, just for the hell of it
haha. Well if we make companions and a fez, maybe there is a random chance that river blows your hat off and disintegrates it.
Why? It's not that overpowered. Glowstone dust isn't that hard to get either; you have to get it anyway if you want a TARDIS, and I know I won't keep track of how much I mined.
And I thought of another idea for TARDIS customization. We already plan for there to be a room creation feature, that creates a blank room for you to edit. What if you could also enter in a seed that would determine where your room would be created, and the type of room?
No seed means a blank room in a random direction.
The first 2 digits of the seed determine the direction. 00 is in a random direction, 01-05 is any of the 6 cubic directions (imagine a cube surrounding the main room of the TARDIS), not including straight up (because the time rotor is there). 06-13 is the imaginary cube edges. 14-21 is the cube corners. If a room is already in that position, it will make a room behind it or something.
The next 2 digits could be the type of room, with 00 being a blank room and 99 being a random room. The other rooms could be a library, swimming pool, stuff like that. Perhaps typing the name of the room type in will work too.
The digits after the first four are irrelevant.
Typing anything else for the seed will give you a random room in a random direction.
I dunno. Is this a good idea? It definately won't be in the first release of the mod, and probably not the second or third. But if anyone is up for a coding challenge, you can work on that after the mod is released.
Of course, you would also have a button that sends you to a random location. The TARDIS is attracted to disaster, so it would probably put you closer to lava pits...
Very interesting idea! anyone else have comments on it?
I love your commitment, but i noticed on the poll, majority voted on making new ores for the sonic screwdriver. This is probably because you aren't done and don't have time for it yet, and I will take no offense if I am ignored.
I'm a bit confused by your comment, but you aren't ignored! Also the poll is old and I deleted it but it reappeared... I need to change it.
Doctor Who mod seems the best mod in the universe.
I had have some ideas but i dunno if there all taken i saw fobwatch on there and that seems kl
Regeneration
I think it would be cool if you could have a folder and add all the skins you want to change to inside the folder so u get skins that u like.
my only post so far also this is a rly good idea and hope it gets lots of attention
(Im gunno do a mod spotlight when it comes out)

tardis key is done already. So is cat texture I think.

It seems too overpowered to just be "found"... but perhaps it could be crafted from minerals only found on Cybus? You could mine a mineral, like, for example, Bluestone Dust. And maybe the crafting recipe should be bluestone-diamond-iron down the middle column. And you can place it on the ground, torch-style, and sonic it. This will save your inventory, and you can regain it if you hold it when you die.
And it could be used on other people in the show, so maybe if you used it on a pig, they would spit out a random item from that inventory. (Perhaps it can only be used once.)
Of course, we would have to think of other things makeable with bluestone... bluestone torches, that glow brighter the lower the light level? Iron helmet+bluestone = cyberhelmet? Bluestone blocks?
You guys should add a doctor NPC: A Christopher one, a david one, and a matt one, i could help you with skins. They could each give you a part necessary to become a time lord.
There could be three ways to become a time lord:
1. Kill David Tennant to get a blue suit. Kill Christopher to get a leather jacket, and kill Matt to get a fez. If wearing all at once, and getting killed by a dalek, you regenerate and become a time lord.
2. By creating a fobwatch like so:
= Huon Particles
= Clock
= String
3. There is a 1/20 chance that David drops a hand. By combining this with a jar and huon particles you can make the DoctorDonna Jar.
And the master could be a rare spawn that shoots at you and drops the laser screwdriver, which you can use. And when you hit him, 10 master-skinned enemies would spawn around him, and they would just punch you. They could pull from a pool of random skins (eg. dresses, tuxedos, hoodies) all with the master's face on them.

I don't what to have to kill the Doctor to fly the TARDIS. It would feel wrong some how...

Nice. Bluestone..never saw it coming. Also, their could be Cyber-metal, a new metal found only on Cybus. I had some ideas...
( = Bluestone dust)
( = cyber-metal ingot)
Cyber Pulse Ray:
Fires a blue laser.
Cyberhelmet:
Makes Cybermen ignore you.
Oh--and this...
Controller Earpiece:
If placed on a normal animal (chicken, cow, pig), it will follow you. if you attach it to a wolf, it will instantly be tamed (blue hearts instead of red). If attached on a cyberman, it will explode.
Errm... I already did the cat people and sade1212 already did the key... at least I think it's a key... it's a file named key and it looks like a key.
Confusion?
By bad, no one said they were on drop box I don't pay attention to it. Dalek was there too.
I'm still trying to figure out the FOB watch situation which currently solves the problem of getting a key. I don't think that it will work really well because pretty much they have to have it or have a tardis key until they unlock a tardis door in which case they should have any? It's a little annoying to try and figure out. So i'm looking for a better way to implement it
The Key looks great, i'm not sure about how the dalek is supposed to work. This is the cat person, is it just me or should he be a little more orange?

What do you mean with the tardis key/door/fobwatch? Also, yeah, I think the cat person needs texturing...again...
Another idea I just had is to add jelly babies! Admittedly they don't feature much now but they were always there in some of the old series, perhaps you could buy it from some NPC in the past or future (im not rly sure where minecraft is along the time stream :tongue.gif:). Also the current writes love refrencing other sci-fi shows especialy classic BBC sci-fi ones, so in spirit of this i think there should be a craftable towl to nod at hgg (the doctor did say he met him)(also if you wanted a use for it it could act like a bucket and you could 'mop' up the flesh with it the 'squeeze' it back out, it sorta seems to fit with the comedy aspect of the show to me)
Jelly babies need to be a rare item, found randomly. 5 different colours. Get them all, you can unlock the Fourth Doctors scarf. BOOM
Ok, guys, we need to start bringing ideas together. First things first, the gameplay. How's it going to work?
I think we've established that the TARDIS will be flyable and act as a base. But we need to decide how we are going to arrange the locations and goals. The usual goal for Minecraft is survive. As this mod essentially makes this more of an exploration/ adventure game, (seeing as that fits with the fact the Doctor has survived 900 years of Time travel)we should probably consider how you start, and how you would essentially 'Complete' the tasks (I say 'Complete' because we may update with additional items/ tasks/ mobs and all that jazz. Ideas? Lets get working on a deffinitive list! :smile.gif:
What do you mean with the tardis key/door/fobwatch? Also, yeah, I think the cat person needs texturing...again...
Well the goal is to get the Tardis key. Currently the idea is to have a fobwatch that will unlock, like I can get it to do that unlock at a certain time but i'm not sure about actually giving it to the player in the first place, or always keeping it in the player's inventory.
This is a freaking great idea! Big Doctor Who fan and if you guys need any help, just tell me what I can do and I would really love to help. Even if its asking someone who can better do the thing to help. Id just really love to contribute to this. Either way, I hope this stays possible.

Well it makes sense to spawn them the fobwatch, right? And we don't want them to be unable to unlock their TARDIS because they died. Honestly, I think that the TARDIS key should replace the fobwatch. Also, are we still going to try to make regeneration only possible after fobwatch-opening?

That's what I'm saying I don't think I can do that.

hmm... you mean you can't replace the watch with the key, or unlock regeneration? either way is fine, but maybe you can get rid of the watch after you've gotten the key.

Meaning I can't give them back the item, or give them a new one when they die without editing the dieing class. It's just a lot of what ifs. What if they drop the watch? What if it's in a chest when they die? And I was trying to get it to not drop but that seems to be pretty much impossible as well. Giving them the watch in the first place is hard too.
