That's a heavy request m8!
I might pull it off though! But it will be a hard challenge! You will first need to make the mod at least before we actually start talking about this. I guess i will need to talk with my server players about this one. I don't want to be a bad and selfish admin and just adding random mods. Because in order to have a mod like this. All of the players will need to download this in order to get log in, or else they will get kicked. But this mod would help and make the server, and the roleplay 75% more epic and fun. But the thing i'm worried about, is the down times of the server and the lag the mod might make. I suggest you make the mod, test it on single player for a bit. Then try yourself on multilayer! In that time i think my server has decided to either implement this mod or not..
Sorru for my language right now m8. I haven't slept for 30 hours xD
of course i would make this mod for single player first. and i do indeed realize this request.
I think you should definitely ask players what they think. just talk to all of them or something and link them to this post to see if they would be willing.
unlike minecraft, which by the way is poorly written, i will try to write this mod in the most efficient way possible, making run time much better then if i followed the recipe of minecraft code.
let me know of what your players think, im interested.
-----eidt-----
also we are going to try to write something were (summed up) you drag the folder to your desktop and cut and paste code into your terminal, press enter, and boom its downloaded and ready for play. there is also one mod that will go hand in hand in development with this mod but i would like to keep that one hidden from the public for now.
interesting that you brought this up. I was going to make several types of "barren", if you will, soil types that would not grow grass. for the most part yes, the Wastelands will be dead but there will be speratic pockets of life every here and there which could be as insignificant as a bush to as extreme as a dense marsh. ill be adding some more concepts today aswell so you might see some good examples.
and ya the hopes i had for this mod was for to eventually break the boundries of a mod and start to reach into the realm of more of an expansion pack.
I think i definitely see where you're going with the different biomes and levels of foliage. Some areas should be slightly barren, some entirely so, and some areas full of marsh and an immense variety of marsh-like plant life.
As well, a question. Do you have an artist drawing weapons, blocks and things? Is that artist planning on making 32x32 versions of the textures for The Wastelands? The Wastelands would probably go great with LAST DAYS, the texture pack. (it is 32x32, however.)
I see you talking about SMP, as well... My god, if you could then turn this into an SMP mod as well, it would hopefully become all new levels of popular on the mod scale. Modders barely ever code mods, especially large ones, for SMP.

Hey, I would love to help you. I tried PMing you, but it says your messages are full. I can create a website, write the lore, and promote it. I really think this is a great idea, please PM me details on how/where I can communicate with you better, and faster!

exactly my thinking with the biomes.
Umm, so far that artist is going to be me designing a 32x32 texture pack. I dont know of anyone yet who has the "touch" im looking for. i agree this would look great with the last days texture pack but i dont want that as the texture pack. I would like it to be special and custom like everything ive got planned for the mod so far. Do you know of anyone who does? you perhaps?
yes that was going to be one of the biggies of this mod. A SMP bukkit plugin or just SMP files depending on what i can do. i dont fully know if i can do that with bukket and yes, i agree, not enof modders make good or big server mods. yet another thing this mod will hopefully change. The server that will be testing on (the only server with access to the files) will be "ruined world" unless i find one more appropriate. keep in mine that is not within the immidiate future.

That looks really amazing, and hard. I've seen a few post-apocalyptic ideas/WIP mods around but this is by far my favorite. It would be pretty cool if you could take a look at a few ideas of mine. There would be illustrations but sprites take a while and I can't doodle for anything.

I like your ideas. especially the enhancement one. One issue i see myself running into is with group spawning but im sure ill find a way. your ideas, if i use them, may be renamed.

I'm not very familiar with Javascript myself, but I guessed that mobs spawning with another mob sounded a bit bothersome. And those names were placeholders for the most part, so what you want. Thanks for reading through it though

Maker of sprites and lazy to boot~
You can maybe trust me to do work, when I get around to it. Sometimes.
Very interested to see this implemented. I'll have to sit down tonight and work out some new, and interesting ideas for it too. Good luck!
My first idea, as I read the trapskill
Beartrap - Causes maybe a heart or two in damage, but immobilises the one trapped in it for a set ammount of seconds. Can spawn randomly in the wilderness. Can be picked up if not set off, but once set off destroying it causes it to dissapear. Crafted using Iron, most likely.
= 2 Beartraps
----------
Acid: Like Lava, staying in it will cause you continued damage, though after exiting it all damage ends. However, the catch here is while in lava, your items, weapons, and armor will loose durability.
Acid should be an uncommon find, just the same as lava. Going off a generation limitation of nearby large buildings. After all, there are a deal of places that use acid in routine work.
----------
Fatigue Meter: Unlike Minecraft where you only have to eat to heal, in the Wastelands, every action should take a toll on this meter. Extended time digging, fighting, or anything will lower this meter more and more.
How to raise it back? It will slowly raise back on it's own, a certain percentage per minute. To speed this up, one can also eat food. Just the same with health, each food increases the fatigue meter by it's own intervals. Raw food, however, decreases the fatigue meter a bit. Sleeping, however, will get the fatigue meter back fully. Of course, that is if no one wakes you during your sleep.

i really like this i think ill use it :biggrin.gif:

also there will not be conventional crafting grid used. probly a skills-mingame crafting table of some sort.
well if you didnt know, i attend school. within the last three days ive taken 5 tests, was about to be 7 but i talked my way out of it. needless to say i didnt have really any time to write anything. But i will be able to get a good chunk done by teusday cuz thats when were all meeting up to work on this.
You have very good ideas, but i dont think you can make them all,i really like this and im part of the ruined world server,i WILL vite for this, but please dont do it all at once, because you may either leave it,or release it with bugs, for example, the skills and the minigames will make a HUGE challenge by theirselves, even for four people.
i suggest you don't add the cipher, but anyway, you guys are awesome for doing this :smile.gif:

I'm back. The portal will now open in 3... 2.. 1-bzzt
No seriously, though, the thread got pushed back into the forums, and i played Terraria for so long, and you get the point. I just couldn't find the thread afterwards.
I definitely understand you not wanting Last Days for the texture pack. Some aspects of it make it seem too "Doku (such as the grass)" and not custom enough for specifically The Wastelands. But yea, i guess i could draw some of the textures. I'm not that great of an artist though, and i'd rather do items, but i can probably draw blocks as well. If i do draw some of the textures, would you want me to draw 32x32 versions of the items as well? (i personally think 32x32 is the perfect texture size, but i don't think 32x32 variants of the default textures like Faithful 32x32 look all that great. I, however, think it would be weird to just have the Wastelands be 32x32 yet keep the default 16x16. However, i also think a mod that makes you change your default textures to 32x32 would be intrusive and strange.)
Oh, and, i've got a sibling, Shinkei Shinto, who's deviantart is here. They'd be willing to do concept art, advertisement art, or whatever. Shinto isn't really all that great at pixel art, but whatever else you want, they can probably do it. You can check out the link and stuff. Just offering possible services.
One particular thing Shinto mentioned, though, was why? What caused this apocalypse, how have people been holding through, is there a government, is that government just a collection of people that must survive together, etc. This would be really important to the feel of the apocalypse and what kind of mobs and structures/environments/social statures (if there can be any kind of social hierarchy in an apocalypse (another thing we probably need to know in this certain apocalypse, lol.)) have developed. After Shinto gets the "why" question answered, they'll be able to contribute heaps of ideas. (although that depends on the answer to the why question, too, lol.)
Edit: As well, a lot of these ideas and suggestions seem quite scattered. Robot factories haven't been mentioned once in any form, nor even robots themselves. I kind of think robots are way out of character in the kind of apocalyptic world we've been talking about, with ruins and ruined towns, varied foliage, and such. I like the range and extensiveness of all the ideas mentioned, but some seem completely unrelated to others.
Oh, and, with the biomes, you have to make sure the coding in the biomes flows well. You can't have a marsh right next to a massive barren and uninhabited wasteland with barely any vegetation, you have to put smaller levels of vegetation between the two biomes.

the important thing to realize with computer programming is that anything is possible. I realize the scope of this project and the complexity of it all but have no fear, it ALL can be done. It will just take time.
why do you not think that ciphers should be added? I quite liked the idea.
------edit------
Also i believe i talked to your server administrator about implementing the server part of this mod onto your server in the future were you there for his announcement of possibly doing that? and how would you feel if that did happen (seeing the mod for what it is now)?
I'm back. The portal will now open in 3... 2.. 1-bzzt

I completely understand and agree with that, I'm thinking that im going to try and get john smith to create a 16x16 texture pack for the game. (I hope you know about the john smith texture pack) I like his work and i think he has the touch im looking for.
I've looked at your siblings art work and i'm afraid he doesn't have the artistic ability to do what i would need done in the realm of concept art. If he is truly interested then i would be more then happy to see what he can do. If he wants to create a reclaimed-by-nature apocalypse looking piece of concept art then I would say to him. "Go for it, I'd like to see what you can do." Other wise no thank you.
Well i cant answer that question because its way to huge of me to answer. Umm... If you read the application idea section i believe i put the general feel of the apocalypse, so he can just read that. What caused it.. Well The Wastelands is the way it is because there was a nuclear war (how original) and after the war ended there was no rebuilding effort because everything was destroyed. This made the world turn into a sort of survivalist type civilization instead of a civilized civilization and after all the time that has passed focusing on just living nature has slowly started to reclaim the land which is what gives it its "feel" of organic instead of industrial (the wastelands). If i didn't answer anything as you wanted please ask it again but more specific. Its kind of hard for me to answer that with what you gave me.
once again, agreed. I do think robots are a bit out of character but i do think that some for of robotics should be thrown in here and there seeing how this is the future an what not. It does seem feasible that there would be a few surviving examples.
Yes I'm going to work out some sort of temperature system that will allow for a nice biome flow.
On an unrelated note, if your interested, the others and i met up today and got some work done on portals and world generation. We were tracing threw the poorly written code of minecraft to find what was connected to what and what needed to be done were to get what we were looking for and did that for a couple of hours. On thursday we are planning to actually hop right in and do some actual coding for the portals and a bit of world gen (maybe, i know were meeting on Thursday though to do some coding).
added soils and earth subsection to the Blocks section and added Infertile Earth, Dry Soil, and Mud. Ive changed the name of the ores section to "ores and stones" as well as added Waste-rock.
of course i would make this mod for single player first. and i do indeed realize this request.
I think you should definitely ask players what they think. just talk to all of them or something and link them to this post to see if they would be willing.
unlike minecraft, which by the way is poorly written, i will try to write this mod in the most efficient way possible, making run time much better then if i followed the recipe of minecraft code.
let me know of what your players think, im interested.

also we are going to try to write something were (summed up) you drag the folder to your desktop and cut and paste code into your terminal, press enter, and boom its downloaded and ready for play. there is also one mod that will go hand in hand in development with this mod but i would like to keep that one hidden from the public for now.

[*]Drops 2-4 Iron Ingots or any components to a diving helmet or very rarely a complete diving helmet
[*]Causes nearby Scrappers to "self-destruct" or flee upon own death
[*]Spawns alone amongst a group of Scrappers
[*]Spawns with only a fourth of Scrapper groups
[*]Does not spawn on Peaceful
[*]Slightly taller than player

I thought those up on the spot and thought they sounded.... interesting. If you just brush them off, that's fine. I'm fairly certain they could be a bit spastic. This mod still looks like it will be awesome and I'd like to help any way I could, besides coding. I can't help there.
List tags are malformed.
You can maybe trust me to do work, when I get around to it. Sometimes.

But i will be able to get a good chunk done by teusday cuz thats when were all meeting up to work on this.
i suggest you don't add the cipher, but anyway, you guys are awesome for doing this :smile.gif:
Credit to Shinkei-Shinto for the profile pic. (seriously, check her **** out.)
My Ideas:
The Realism Overhaul
Elemental Swords
DAMN YOU LIMITED CHARACTERS!
the important thing to realize with computer programming is that anything is possible. I realize the scope of this project and the complexity of it all but have no fear, it ALL can be done. It will just take time.
why do you not think that ciphers should be added? I quite liked the idea.

Also i believe i talked to your server administrator about implementing the server part of this mod onto your server in the future were you there for his announcement of possibly doing that? and how would you feel if that did happen (seeing the mod for what it is now)?
