I modified and added to the soil and dirt section, i suggest checking it out. I thought that it woul be a good idea to have dirt actually matter in the wastelands so i imaginered something along those lines.
Now this isnt exactly an update but im interested int people's opinions on this. What would you say to me and lancer buying a (really really nice :wink.gif:) server to host this mod's SMP function in the future. The server could be considered the Wastelands' official game (and testing) server. The issue is that in order to do this and for such in incredible price with a professional hosting service, this offer is a bit important. Now currently the only deals made available are hourly (server on demand) or yearly (which is what we are shifting towards. The server that we have our eyes on will cost us about $1900 (about 24 cents per hour per person playing). And we both would like to know if it would be worth while buying (as in more then 1 person at any one time would be playing), and if any people in the future, when the time comes, would be willing to donate a bit of money to get SMP off its feet.
currently the server we are looking at has these specs:
7 GB of memory
20 EC2 Compute Units (8 virtual cores with 2.5 EC2 Compute Units each)
1690 GB of instance storage
64-bit platform
I/O Performance: High
You see, i view this mod as an entire game onto itself. There's a great leveling formula, a charisma system, perks, minigames, skills, and if someone was so inclined to max out everything (yes, there is a level cap), with hard work it could take upto 3 years of playing. With that said how does everyone feel about monthly fee's? say about $3-5? I'm personally against making money off of mods and monthly fee's but im just in question about the generosity of people. Its a sort of "low cost high fun approach". And plus with all that money ill be getting from donators i can more then likely afford something like detergent eventually.

I would be happy to donate, and i would pay the fee monthly...well,as you know im young so i don't have many places to get money from, but anyway i would gladly cooperate, just one question,is there a chance of actually buying a server? meaning that you could do something like a donation progression thing, where once we reach a fair price paid by the community you can pay the server and own it without fees? if this is not possible,i will pay the fee, even though we should try and find other ways.
Update:
So i have my computer back, which is good, so now ill be able to start back up with this mods development again. I had to stop for about 4 days because my computer crashed =\. Heres what's going on as of now.
The world generator: This is actually a bit more complicated than most terrain/alternate dimension generators; as apposed to most mods out there which just copy the hell files essentially just creating a re-skinned hell realm, we went ahead and gave the Wastelands a sort of "custom" generator. Essentially what we did was rewrite the generator for minecraft, with some modifications, and used it to be the world generator for the Wastelands. What this allows us to do is add absolutely anything we wish with no limitations as apposed to the nether which appears to only support one biome and a few other limitations on top of that. So this will allow us to do just about anything =). but doing this of course would make for many, many issues along the way and after slowly hacking at it for some time now it appears as though we're making a final break through. Not to long now till patch numero uno =D!
Charisma: Lancer just about summed it up but let me make things a bit clearer. Imagine Charisma as a sort of Karma system. Doing good things will give you positive charisma, while doing bad things will give you bad charisma. For now all charisma is good for is increasing or decreasing shop prices slightly, from various npc stores. Here are ways to gain Charisma: Kill people/npc's and do quests. People with + charisma who kill people with - charisma will receive + charisma of the appropriate amount the more charisma in either extreme a person has (who you killed) will give you more charisma points. Now naturally we're trying to go for a certain amount of logic here were doing one thing for either side of the scale will give you attention from both sides in some sort of way, so we were trying to go with a opposites rule: good people kill bad people which gains good people good charisma, bad people kill good people which earns them bad charisma; which all makes sense because doing those sort of things would earn you attention from the according side. There will be a neutral zone as well. Take this example here: imagine a Charisma scale ranging from -200 to 200. the neutral zone would be something like -50 to 50. When neutral charisma people kill other people, they will receive the according opposite amount of charisma. Also people with neutral charisma will not receive a benefit to shop prices (while + people will receive a discount and - people will receive a mark up) also people who kill neutral people will receive no charisma points. For now this is the basic principle of charisma and we will be modifying it with various perks and other things to make it more fun and realistic. This has a lot of potential in my mind.
Banners: To raise awareness of this mod me, lancer, and others will be working together to come up with a pretty cool "Team" banner thing, because lets face it, factions are fun. So for one banner team we will have: team led, as the sort of cautious/prepared explorer team and Team Raider, as the sort of free lance mercenary/griefer. I imagine that these banners will look pretty cool because I will be hosting a server for the time of the banners scenery to be constructed. There will be more teams in the future and for anyone that is interested in helping out, please let us know. In addition to these banners we're also thinking of making a few just plain cool banners, for the sake of awesome.
Polls: We will be hosting 2 polls for the slogan of both team banners and the polls will be over at months end.
To all the supporters (however many few there are):
---edit---
Made some minor spelling changes. If anyone finds a spelling or grammar mistake please pm me.
The third unnamed modder will be revealed in about a week. or less.
---edit II---
I forgot to mention that people who kill neutral people will receive no charisma points.
AMAZING you know whats the first thing im going to do?
snipe a world cimelord :smile.gif:
Its very nice to see all this progress,i couldn't be more excited (im excited in a Deus Ex coming out in 10 days level)
Also its nice to see that your pc is fine, what was the problem with it?
anyway, what would be the advantages for a character with bad charisma?
so far i thought of two possibilities:
giving the char the ability to kill a shopkeeper and steal his stuff while a godd charisma character that kills the shopekeeper can't grab the goods?
lower prices on the black market (maybe the same as the actual charisma, higher prices with + charisma shopkeepers and lower with - charisma shopkeepers)?
i seriously have no idea what could be the bad charisma advantage, what is the plan so far?
Ok this might be a bit of a bold idea, but it sounds good in my mind.
WristWatch
--......--
This device can be built when you get 6 different ores. The ores are the new ones added to the game in this mod, and its up to you which ones you pick. You would place the 6 ores in the bottom 6 spaces in the crafting table, glass in the top left and right, and a redstone peice in the top center.
This device is quite useful. When you hit a specific key on your key board, you look down at your WristWatch. (You can also somehow choose which hand it goes on) You see the watch and your blocky hand above it. On the watch is a few different things.
Time: This is a miniature version of the Clock, and shows the time of day.
Location: This shows the X, Y, and Z coordinates.
Direction: This shows which direction you are facing.
Also, this might not sound like a good idea at first, but you have to think about all the possibilities.
Anomaly Detector: This is a little glass bulb. On certain rare occasions, the bulb will light up. When it first lights up, and you aren't looking at your watch, you will see a red glare on the bottom right of your screen. There could be certain anomalies that occur in The Wasteland. Here are a few examples:
A certain rare mob (When it spawns near you, it would light up)
The Crashing U.F.O. (When it is about to crash)
A mob I came up with, called The Stranger.
The Stranger
--........--
This is probably one of the coolest mobs I've ever imagined or seen in Minecraft.
This mob only spawns in time of great need, and it's very very rare. It spawns of course when you have very low health and are about to die. Picture this: You are venturing out at night when a group of Wastelander's spring out at you. You take out 6, but the last one shoots you and you see you have a half of a heart. You see a red glare in the bottom right of your screen, and you hear a loud gunshot. You look at your attacker and he dies. You look at the treeline, and see a pair of yellow eyes. It's a figure in a black cloak. He then turns and slowly walks away. There you go, that's The Stranger.
Back to the watch, you could even have it so your player could find add-ons for it. I.E. another part.
Well the reason we would have the monthly fee is that it's kind of expensive and in order to support it, it would cost us 24 cents an hour for one person playing. so out of a full day that would be $5.76 to support it by itself for each day that its up.so for anything we would need at least 2 people paying a monthly fee of 3 bucks for one year. I don't really thing its that much to keep a game like this up but if no one wants it then whatever. There probably isn't any other way. but the more people that join the less it would cost, and we'll adjust the price, accordingly, it may even be as low as 2 cents if there's alot of people playing. so one person would have to pay 6$, then 2 would pay $3. then 3 would pay 2 and so on.

the computer stop recognizing the hard drive and i could connect to the internet or boot up the side i had the mods on,
charisma will most likely work into perks heavily but we arnt quite sure what they are. I like your black market working into it though. I'm thinking that the various shop keeper's could be good or bad people so depending on the player, the price on the store should vary.

Sounds a bit like the mysterious stranger perk from Fallout.

Then i'll hapily pay the fee, even if at a certain time i have to pay 6 dóllars its still a low price, and i really love this project, count on me!
About the charisma and factions...i was thinking, the factions right now are so very defined, as you said more will be added in the future, and thats what im focusing on, but right now they are very defined so the bad guys are utterly bad and even have a griefing related slogan, while the good ones are more like regular people, so i was thinking that for now it will have to be like that but that when the mod advances further (and more factions aare added) this could change a bit...i will start working on a suggestion with some sort of faction tree or something that pictures a more realistic set up.

cool, maybe you can work out like a chain of command between the good, neutral, and evil factions. here's some lore that me and lancer havent. written out yet. The wastelands is controlled (somewhat invisibly) by three major pseudo-government organizations: The Lazuli Morning Star Federation (information on moderation), the Order of the Azure Whip (Army regulation), The Order of the White Rose (special operations and recognizance). Notably there are three developers so we thought it would be fitting for one of us to lead each faction. I'm head of the white rose, lancer is head of the azure whip, and anonymous is head of the morning star.
Notice:
We need everyone's help to create the banner for team raider. The set was built and completed today (with help from EP) and we need 9 people to volunteer themselves to be in the new team raider banner. If your interested in being in the banner, please post that you'd be willing to help, along with your skype and/or steam name.

I actually have no idea what the deal is with the two teams, but id be willing to help if I knew what it was about. Also, i've never heard of the Mesterious Stranger perk, even though i've played Fallout. Idk, just seemed like a good idea.

:ohmy.gif: don't I get to lead anything??? Jk, I'm fine. I like the factions though, except the Azure Whip. Maybe the Black Whip or the Bloody Whip or the Iron Whip, but I never think of a whip as being something Azure.

ok thats pretty good we'll change it to iron whip. And you can lead the art department. that one is probably the most important.
The Charisma system does make you into a good or bad guy i suppose. but good or bad is just a point of view.
---edit---
updated the charisma attribute on the main page to match the definition i said earlier.
---edit II---
Also, no point needs to be proven.
Skin Example
Skin Example 2
What if there were negative charisma shops, like black markets and private dealers. Could you get a cheaper price if you have negative charisma then?
