Found a bug! Going to upload a fixed version in a few minutes. As it is, the Chemical Furnace will actually start up no matter what you put in the fuel slots, as long as one of them is a fuel.
So, I use this mod with Glimmar's steampunk texture pack, as suggested, and was wondering, since the bow in glimmar's steampunk pack is a crossbow, have you considered changing the recipe to be more crossbow like, or added in an extra crossbow recipe, that uses metal bolts? Just an idea, and not sure if it's worth using a sprite, but I think it would be cool. Also, is this compatible with pchan3's airship mod until you add your own? Anyways, been really enjoying your mod lately, so keep up the good work! :smile.gif:.
This is compatible with Pchan's Airship mod, I'm happy to say! As for the crossbow, I'm not sure it's worth it. I might add one at a later date, but to be honest it will just end up being pretty much the same as a normal bow.
I sent Glimmar an update to the pack's compatibility, by the way, so that should be up reasonably soon. Look out for it.
The bug, by the way, was caused by my own stupidity. I used the normal Furnace code as a base, and that told the Furnace to start up as long as the "smelting time" was above 0. I added in a check for if one of the fuel slots was empty, but still had it set to start as long as the overall smelting time was above 0. What that meant was that as long as one fuel was adding to the smelting time, it didn't matter what the other fuel slot had in it, so long as it wasn't empty or the same. I fixed it by simply telling it not to start until both items are contributing more than 0 to the overall smelting time.
I wouldn't have found the bug if it weren't for this video:
Notice how he uses Coal in the Chemical Furnace at one point? That is no longer possible, as Coal is not actually on the fuel list.
Are you certain it's not an ID conflict? Could you post the crash message, just to be sure?
Also, this guy has posted a mod pack with Steamcraft in it without my permission. It would be very helpful if people would flag the submission, since I can't find an easy way to contact a moderator personally, and it seems to be going largely ignored at the moment.

Just downloaded the mod, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. As awesome as the highway men are, I was wondering if there is a way of disabling them, as I like to stick to the vanilla minecraft-feel. I was also wondering if you have any plans regarding the upcoming 1.8 update, and what features we can all look forward to.
When the 1.8 update comes around, I'll have my hands full just altering all the features to fit with the revamped Minecraft, so don't expect new content. I could quite easily get rid of the Highwaymen through the config file, too. I may add the functionality to stop them spawning at night and stop the Highwaymen Hideouts generating as separate functions, so you can have one without the other.
yeah looks like a block ID error, my minecraft patcher and HD updater caught an ID conflict so I need to sort out alot of blocks it seems. x.x

Then post the error log. I can't do anything without the log. Oh, and by the way, the HD fix should really be used for any pack other than 16x16, regardless of whether it's larger or smaller than that.
Also, Zombielogic, it looks like you haven't installed ModLoader correctly.
i dropped it in like it says to, i'm also useing forge for the Apothecarium mod, everything runs fine with xie's mod pack right up until I add steam craft and Xie's mod provides an every way of getting and carrying high recovery level foods that really do help out when ya have to head off far from your home point, ever moreso now with the highway men. x.o not sure how to get all of this to work and I'd really rather not give up steam craft. x.x;
The best way would be to either get the ID resolver, or change the ID of the block at 115 in the Steamcraft config file (I believe it's the Cast Iron Block), and then try to run it again. If that doesn't work, check the error log again, and the message should have changed. Now change the ID of the block at whatever number it says next. Repeat this process until it works or throws up a different kind of error.
h'okay......here's what ya need to do...... ID resolver and minecraft extended. alot of steps yeah yeah BUT! totally worth all the effort needed to do it. it might be a good idea to add links to these to addons for others to use. and THANK YOU for your fast response time, you have to be one ofthe best mod makers out here and one ofthe fastest to get back with help for players. also any links to the steam boat and Airship mod?

Could someone explain or make a wiki page about how to use and fuel the steam furnace? I haven't made one yet, but I'm really confused how it's going to work and If it is worth making or if it will use a lot of resources. This could also help other people who are confused, but if people aren't up to wiki-ing a simple explanation would help. The smelting cheat-sheet gives time info, but not much else...
Edit: I made one, and it seems that the chemical furnace add the smelting times of the two materials... can they be the same, I don't want to waste any more resources. Also, a wiki page would still be useful for those who also may not understand chemical furnaces.
