Minecraft Forge looks very interesting. I have looked into it before now, and I dare say I will probably switch to it at some point. I'm a little wary of having my mod rely on anything that isn't extremely mainstream, though, because of incompatibilities and such.
From what I understand, Minecraft Forge is the solution the incompatibilities problem.

As far as I understand how programs work, this is only true in the same way ModLoader is the solution to such conflicts, i.e., the majority of mods much use the API in order for the compatibility to be increased. Steamcraft currently has an extremely high compatibility rate, and I think I will wait for Forge to take of a little more (as it undoubtedly will) before I make the switch, not least because it will require a heck of a lot of recoding.
Awesome mod cant wait till you have a chance to look into SMP and the nether stuff. having lots of fun playing with lights you can turn off and on and absolutely love the green torches

Obviously the mod has to use the API to gain the benefits of it. :biggrin.gif: I understand about the recoding, but I don't think Forge will become very popular if everyone just waits for it to become more popular. :wink.gif:
Let Proloe work on content for now. She is right give Forge several weeks and more mods will likely take it on. We of course would love more content to your mod. Just wanted to mention again...appreciate all your hard work on this mod Proloe.
I'm almost certain I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it. The problem is that the game reads mod code after vanilla code, so I need to essentially either force update all the GUIs, or find a way to switch the depth of my overlay.
It should be compatible, I can't think why not. The Etherium tools will stay unbreakable. They are extremely difficult to get without hacks (at least the more useful ones are), and there is still the risk of them being lost by death. They are also not the fastest tools in the game. There are in fact 3 tool sets faster then them.

The cost is high which..and they are fast but not extremely fast...so there is some balance there...so really they should be kept the same.
We had talked before about helping with rendering. The person I know that can help you...there mod is finally out...it is called Infitools...you can likely pm him...he is always willing to help.
I had a talk with the modders on the #risucraft IRC, and it's apparently impossible to sort out the rendering issue (or at least very difficult) because of how Notch programmed the game (one more thing that makes me hate his guts). I'm settling for an alternative where the overlay will not render while the game is paused/a GUI is open.

Yeah, but ya know Proloe, you are sorta a Mod Goddess really. And having you step up and say "hey guys, I'm gonna try to use Minecraft Forge in a future release" would not only make some of your users ecstatic, but it would also help with Minecraft Forge going more mainstream. New modders...or even modders sitting on the fence..thinking along the lines you are will see it..and it could be the 'nudge' it takes to get some of them to go ahead and stick their neck out. (So to speak).
I was reading the Forge post and came across the extended block ID's notion. The way I understand it is they are utilizing the same method of wool. Sub ID's or some such. When I think about that...and Steamcraft together, it is rather exciting. That combined with the unlimited Item and Terrain indices would pretty much allow you to add in ALL the content you could ever want to, without even the base game getting in the way.
But hey, thanks for considering it and all. I love your mod so much I am willing to have a separate install for it, and will continue to for awhile.
Also, I came across a mod, and am giving it a whirl. It is called 'Zepplin'. Basically you make a controller block, then place it on blocks ( the craft you have built ) and it lets you fly it around. The first thing that popped into my mind was "WOW, it would be incredible if SteamCraft had something like this in it." Only you could take it a step further and require steam engines, maybe 1 steam engine per 50 blocks of craft construct. Anyhow, just wanted to share the thought. :smile.gif:
Zeppelins is an epic mod. I'm not even close to being able to do something like it, so it probably won't make it's way to Steamcraft, I'm afraid. The mods are compatible, though, which is good :biggrin.gif:.
As for Forge, I think it highly likely that I will start using it. It looks like a wonderful tool, and I'm actually quite excited about playing about with it. I do want to get some more of my content in the mod first, though, and then I will probably switch to Forge. Who knows, it may even be able to help me fix the overlay error I've had without a workaround! Maybe it could even allow me to make the Chisel and Spanner work without editing vanilla classes! The possibilities are exciting.
So I think I'll say that I will at least attempt the switch to Forge in a later release. It won't necessarily be the next one, but I will make the effort.

YAY! Proloe you are awesome! :smile.gif: :smile.gif: :smile.gif:
You should poke Eloraam over on the Minecraft Forge post so she can add you and SteamCraft to the list of mod adopters :smile.gif: :smile.gif: YAY! Woot! *does a happy dance*
Overlay...hmm...I remember reading a post on overlays in the Forge. Something about someone wanting to make ore be an overlay over smoothstone. I'm not sure what came of that line of thought, I'd have to go investigate.
But yeah, the possibilities are really exciting. Creativity really gets squelched because of base Minecraft limitations or wanting to stay compatible with other mods. I see wonderful things in the furture :smile.gif:

Yeah a work around is sometimes necessary.
