Well, I'm glad I got to this thread early. Looks like it will become a huge project! I'll download it and have a look later on, I'm gonna need to use a fresh jar due to my massive amount of modding :S
ARGH! You beat me to my Uranium idea! It's obvious though you know what you are doing and have a purpose for it as mine was just a test :wink.gif:
I'm looking forward to the completion of this as it seems very well planned out.

Fun fact: I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I have never done any modding of anything, let alone minecraft, before this, and my experience with Java is next to none. The only way in which I'm starting slightly ahead of anyone else is that I have several years of experience in other C based languages, so the syntax is pretty familiar, which makes it possible to work out how all of the code is structured. I can't say it's easy, but it's possible. Aside from that, it's all a combination of guesswork, perseverance and luck.
As long as I keep these all in good quantities, I should be able to get most of what I have in mind done.
it says alpha 0.0.1 did i download the wrong one or is that the steamcraft version ? because it's just giving me a black screen...
Alpha version 0.0.1 is the version of Steamcraft. You may have downloaded the wrong version, or installed it incorrectly.
are their any mods it might not work with?
Probably a lot. It doesn't use ModLoader, so conflicts are likely to pop up.

A guide would be nice
A crafting guide is featured in the download file. Mining is pretty much the same as usual, except for a few things such as Drills being unable to mine more valuable materials, and Volucite only being mineable by Obsidian tools.
Quick update: I believe I am now more or less prepared to upgrade to 1.5 as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this means I'm not going to be adding anything new until the 1.5 release. That doesn't mean I haven't been running through plans, though. A few interesting things are up for me to start almost immediately.
Looks interesting. However, if I may add my two cents: while electricity and electric lights were being developed in the period that steampunk is based, I think it would be more thematic if you had gas pipes and gas lanterns.

I juggled that concept around when I first thought of the lighting, but decided against it because I don't think I'm yet familiar enough with Minecraft's inner workings or even with Java to pull something like that off. Instead I decided to just use the style of gas lamps and street lights from that era (references aren't hard to come by, the town I live in is full of them). If I continue this mod past what I have planned (which is quite likely, but it depends on how my life plays out), I may come back to it and make modifications such as this.
Now Im pretty new to the whole modding minecraft thing so I had a question, I already have minecraft updated to 1.4 how do I, if possible, revert it to 1.3 so I can use this mod because it looks rather fun!

This mod works with 1.4 and 1.4_01. It doesn't work with 1.3, where did you get that idea?
Ah nevermind I just cant get it to work I start it up and get a black screen, like I said Ive never modded minecraft before so Im still learning. I figured most mods had to be updated as each patch comes along.

They do. Did you delete the META-INF folder, and install by copying over all the .class files, not the folder containing them?
Sure did, opened up the mincraft archive via 7zip deleted the meta folder and copied the contents of the mod into it, when i start up minecraft as soon as i login it it goes to a black screen.

How many files did you copy (I mean in number, just to be sure you copied the right section. A lot of people have done this step wrong when they have no real modding experience), which version of SteamCraft did you download and which version of Minecraft are you using?
Minecraft is at version 1.4_01 and I may have the wrong mod downloaded because it seems like an awful lot of files. 589 to be exact which is probably my problem there?

You downloaded the 1.4 (full files) version. You need the 1.4_01 version, which is not available in full files, only in compressed form. It won't make any difference to the functionality. The full files version is only there because I forgot which files I edited, and so which to re-obfuscate, so I just re-obfuscated all of them. The compressed versions have most of the files that weren't changed taken out.
Haha yep I am a total noob I got the wrong file, its working now =D. Now to spend hours upon hours on minecraft again! Apprieciate all the help and Ill be sure to post some feedback.

Though a gas piping system sounds really cool.
