Wow, I seriously hope this takes off! Hope it goes smooth to, if you ever need any help, textures, or testing done, just tell me i'll be glad to help in any way possible.
I might as well throw my only real suggestion into the mix during the lull:
The only thing I think could make Minecraft even better, aside from what you've suggested, is the ability
to craft vehicles from blocks. As in, floating castles, flying airships, all made out of blocks.
I don't pretend to know how this would work, or even how it would happen. All I know is that after the Pistons mod, it seems POSSIBLE to me.

If you could basically define a bounding box of your "vehicle", then I could see it being moved block by block in any direction. Only problem is that with larger objects it could take a while for everything to move, which might mess with your character.

Nah, the AABB (Axis-Aligned Bounding Box) can update really fast, unless you are moving really fast, it shouldn't be Too hard :smile.gif:

What is this, the 3rd or 4th idea he's taken? There's weather, hunger/thirst, larger worlds, maps, etc...
Whether this mod is dead or not, I will not say. We will have to see what Notch actually did. It seems like it'll only make the worlds around 256 to 1024. I may go edit that or something.

Notch has revised his code so that it is easier to mod the height, but only with the same slow linear vertical chunks. But he said that the level will remain at 128. The person in notch's recent blog that is doing all that experimenting isn't notch, it's Ryan at another company. Ryan even mentions Robinton's3D Chunk Heightmod at the very end though not by name. He then proceeds to lie and malign it because he is now trying to duplicate Robinton's mod for himself. That's because he sees it as the best height option.
Cubic Chunks by Robinton, has been updated again today and is working great! He has also just made a Map Converter that works for ( Cubic / ymod / Vanilla Minecraft ) maps!
Also; he has released his current Terrain Generator Source Code for those wishing to help improve it and also learn more about it so that they can more easily make their mods & tools compatible with the mod and format. :smile.gif:
Cubic Chunks gives you a world (and converts your old world) in which you have 4096 blocks of vertical space! (-2048 to +2048) with levels 0-128 aligning perfectly with the vanilla maps. The bedrock of vanilla maps is replaced with regular stone so that you can mine down to the new bottom another 2000 levels down.
NetBlitzer, please consider looking at Robinton's project & code and helping him with the custom terrain generation! MCEdit, WorldEdit, WorldPainter and others are watching Cubic Chunks now and may add support. This could be a powerful foundation for your mod!

Abandoned villages with no villagers (to possibly take refuge in a home, and no villagers because lag D:)
Lights other than torches (e.g Chandelier)
Closets for storage Abandoned Houses/Villages/Towns.... maybe Cities? So we can loot stuff >:3
Clothes
Musical Instruments?
Possibility to gain over 10 hearts?
Shoes that allow char. to run (e.g Tennis shoes?)
REAL electricity, not redstone, with longer reach then redstone (40 blocks?)
Half doors/Gates/Iron gates (for fences)

Maybe a digging machine that uses coal as fuel? Make it easier to mine a tunnel through a mountain?

Diamond arrow suggestion (all I'm posting cause I already got a ton of crap here)

5x5 Bin [With this design, the sticks are basically coated with a diamond coat, so instead of breaking upon impact with enemy, they can be reused 5 times]
Also, the arrow should be only fired with the proper bow, other wise the bow you are using might break or only launch it 1 block, as it is a huge arrow.
Suggestion: If they use blocks, it gives 9x the arrows as just using a diamond. (36 arrows)

Trees:
Sequoia trees (You know, those giant, old red things? [~100 blocks?])
Willow trees (For crafting bows that shoot farther but weaker), and deal 3.5 damage
Maple trees (For bows that shoot farther [farther than willow]), and deal 5 damage) {Big dia. Arrow (5x5 crafting) would do 10 damage)

"How?" you may ask. Well, I have teamed up with thePalindrome, creator of Necrocraft! He'll be doing a majority of the coding, while I help and make the textures! Unfortunately, we're both going to be going away for awhile. ThePalindrome will be going away till this Saturday, and I'll be leaving the Saturday after next until the 21st.
In other news, the server will be finally going public tomorrow or Tuesday! I've been working very hard to get ready for this moment, so it'll be exciting for me. Little teaser, the entire world for around 2.5km in each direction from spawn will be hand crafted using the Worldedit plugin! That means everything you'll see will have a real purpose that we gave it! Exciting, I know! I'll post the IP later on when I get it.

It stores the data in level.dat , it doesn't generate or hold the seed coding, level.dat is just the data it stores , like your location , mob locations , spawn point , and trees and stuff.
