I strongly object to horses. This is Minecraft, and horses are too generic.
'Hey, what about wagons?'
'OMG Horses NAO!!!!1eleven!!one!'
Seriously? think of something more inventive. Horses have been done. What about oxen, pigs, cows, tortoises, or something mythical. Just saying that horses are boring. Make it more exciting. Don't fall into the trap of bad creativity and stuff.
Otherwise, amazing idea!
While horses may be unoriginal and uncreative, we are basing our mod's setting in the colonial era. And they used horses, but also oxen. That's a good idea, but its more of an upgrade to have either horses or oxen. For simple purposes we will just stick with. Pigs. But nothing mythical.

its a fantastic idea and it is well thought out but one thing ide have the coins be made of gold instead of iron. reason for this is that, iron has alot of uses same as gold. but gold items are highly useless due to low durablity but you can make gold bars into coins good example: one = 10 coins

We are making coins made out of Iron, because Iron is a valuable ressource, gold is invaluable since well...it sucks...so why would you make it coins, then smelt the coins back to gold ingots which would then be useless
you could sell items to traders for Iron coins which would then be usefull, I really sucks at explaining things but I hope I'm getting my point across

These guys make awesome art for Mods (Items, New Blocks and Mobs)

just an idea why not make them both into coins and just end the stupid debate. since gold has less use it could buy less things. or if you want to make it more real life iron is more abundient so it is less cost(supply and demand) and gold is hard to find(supply and demand again) so it is a higher cost.
Yikes people are getting complicated with this. I think that actual basic coding and a framework for at least the basic functions should be set out, in order to determine in what direction this is going to go before adding crazy stuff like wealth among NPCs...
May I suggest First setting up some ideas of the MOST BASIC start of a colony, getting the whole establishment of miners and woodsmen and farmers worked out, then figure out housing and sich.
Also, this topic has really taken Off.
Bumping this post, as it seems to have been ignored in the flood of Ideas. >.>
SOmeone acknowledge this, because it deserves it. >.>
The debate will not end with two types of coins because that is twice the coding.
The debate will end with Iron-made coins, period. There is no argument. Gold is worthless. It doesn't make anything. If gold is worthless=golden coins are worthless. When you get a shitton of gold coins what can it do? NOTHING. Because when you smelt it back to gold Ingots its WORTHLESS.
Iron is everywhere but it has so many uses the demand is equal to if not higher than the supply. This is why coins are made from Iron. If you smelt the coins back to Iron now the coins actually CAN be worth something, and deciding whether or not to turn your new ingots to coins can make the game that much more interesting.
If that hasn't persuaded you then oh well, you go code it and do whatever you want. This is one of those things that are final: Coins are not made of Gold, they are made of Iron. End of discussion.
Moving on, the other items could use refining. Im impressed by how much input people gave on the coins. Perhaps feedback on another item? The gate, wagon? Road, surveyor flag? Platings?
P.S Dr Dro, your recipe for 1 gold ingot to make 10 coins can't work because 1 gold already makes 4 Platings

We already have a structure, see pg 15 or 16 for the 0.0.5 to 0.1 Version and the Mapping and Modding section for the 0.0.1 to 0.0.5 Version. None of this "wealth" is under development. We are working on NPC Villagers Spawning at the moment. By Version 0.1.0 we will have Builders/Lumberjacks/Villagers. Then after we have got the hang of those basic NPCs we can recreate more NPCs and Version 0.2.0 will additionally have footmen and bandits. Version 0.3 can't be projected yet, but hopefully Chefs/Farmers/Pub Owners. Anyways,
The thread did grow, its amazing. So many votes have racked up, it ends this Friday then we'll have a new poll up on NPC classes to eliminate the classes that people don't like that much and see which ones people want to see first.

Wouldn't this be great if someone totally made this, because I honestly cannot think of anyone who has made a mod like this already. *cough* minecolony *cough*
Also, try posting in the suggestion slot for mods in the mod section please.

Ok we have went through this before, when we were thinking about this a long time ago, on whackjobs thread, we did not know of the mod minecolony and then a few weeks into it (somewhere around there) we found out that there was something like this...f**k it let me just give you Lysho's arugment
Quote from Lysho »
This has not been done already. Minecolony is NOT the same as Colonial Eras for the following reasons:
In Minecolony you create NPCs out of nowhere with a box.
In Colonial Eras the NPCs are mobs that wander and can settle with you
In Minecolony the NPCs will work and gather resources for no apparent reason and willingly give them all to you for free.
In Colonial Eras the NPCs will just wander and would gather resources only if you asked them to, and if you don't pay them they lose respect to you and keep their resources
In Minecolony you can't interact with your colonists as fellows, nor even other colonies
In Colonial Eras you get to live every perspective on the edge while gaining trust and support to follow the path of wealth or level every other colony you see.
In Minecolony the Delivery man does all the work for you, so not only do they all work for you for free but they put it in neat stacks as well
In Colonial Eras they will sell their products for a price and it could circulate anywhere instead of waiting freely for the player to have
Minecolony can be played
Colonial Eras has not even been released yet at all
Also we did not copy him, we share similar ideas. I hadn't seen minecolony until 2 weeks after seeing Whackjob post this colony mode and I supported it. Honestly that annoyed me that you would come barging in here like you know it all with" Sorry to dissapoint you guys" and assume such a thing that after all this development no one else has ever bothered to mention the word minecolony. Thats just plain ignorance.
Then to be pointing the finger at us like criminals by suggesting that we would have tried to copy something that would be done way before we could try and do it ourselves. Do you really think I would try to steal someones idea that is half way done and create topics/websites+wikis, development team trying to beat him to it to gain full credit?
Obviously this idea has a lot of planning put into it and if you even READ the OP you would get the big idea that would would be impossible to compare to minecolony.

Ugh I hate repeating myself, like, every page for those wise guys that keep showing up, but here goes:
Minecolony is not even like Colonial Era, because in Minecolony the NPCs spawn from a box and work for you and delivery men put the free resources in stacks for you. In colonial era the NPCs are random villagers that could've came from anywhere and don't have to listen to you plus don't work for free.
We have a thread in Mapping and Modding, that subsection Ideas/Requests is recent so I have to ask to get the thread moved. And we have one here anyways for improvements and changes.
Which you are not inputting.

Nice to hear that there's actual Content. Now I would suggest trying to set up the most basic content, so that it seems to be a semi-functioning system. Even if it is just a farmer plowing fields.
I strongly object to horses. This is Minecraft, and horses are too generic.
'Hey, what about wagons?'
'OMG Horses NAO!!!!1eleven!!one!'

But it's supposed to be realistic.. I mean thats like saying PIGS CAN FLY When they cant (yet)
i say your example is wrong pigs can fly here is how
please note the specalised landing pad to produce streacky bacon during the high speed landing thus recycleing the pigs

There is difference between this and minecolony, yes i saw the other post correcting you, but i think people should stop comparing this to minecolony, next person who does i will call a tree-humper.

Equals = 50 Gold coins. Mercs could cost around 100 coins per merc. That way you could USE gold for something.
