This is a great idea and mod both. A couple of suggestions/questions, though...
1) Do you intend for the mod (at a later date, of course) to have a bit more "Wake-Up" times? IE, instead of just dawn or dusk, say, if you went to sleep a bit past midnight, you'd wake up at noon, and vice versa? Elsewise, I see this being a bit abusable when it comes to harder modes and taking naps (For instance, if you happen to have a clock, make sure to keep an eye on it, and enjoy your 2 hearts of healing for the equivalent of 1 minute of sleep).
2) As a suggestion, rather than a blank background, you could always display a picture of a clock; it might be more aesthetically pleasing, and if you can voluntarily wake up anyway, it'd give you an idea as to what time it was when you woke up. Of course, that could be used to check the time too, but, it'd be kind of silly to do so (you'd do not much more than lose time).
Either way, again, great mod; can't wait for it to be released.

For the first release, I really just wanted to focus on allowing the player to toggle between dark and light. Later, I may introduce additional buttons or even a slider for selecting the amount of time you intend to sleep.
The amount of health healed is proportional to the amount of time spent sleeping. If you go to sleep immediately before dawn, you wake up at dawn and heal nothing. You must sleep for at least 12 in-game hours (12000 ticks) to gain the full 2 hearts.

It's a good idea, but I would only want to provide a graphical clock if the player actually has the Clock item on-hand. Otherwise, it would make that item less useful. Currently, the progress bar on the "Sleeping" screen allows you to estimate your wake time, since you know going in that you're going to wake at the next dawn or dusk.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll add them to my TODO list.

Awesome, I was really hoping that both of these would be your answers! All the more greatness added to this mod =D
I've been stalking this forum for days, waiting for my friend to finish their mod so they can help make my mod compatible with ModLoader. I REALLY can't wait for this. I can't really play Minecraft, because the first few nights are just me sitting there. xD
You guys do realize that Notch is adding beds next Tuesday? And that the guy even said this?
To OP: By the way, are you not working on this anymore? Just wondering.

Go check out some of my suggestions on my profile, in the about me tab!
If you go to sleep during the day, you will wake up right before the sun sets.
The bed will say "Sleep until dawn?" or "Sleep until dusk?" depending on which one comes next in the day/night cycle.

Glad I could help; really lookin' forward to it!
Once I iron out the texture issues and do the final round of testing, v1.0 will be ready for release.

I'll be sure to post pictures and a video as soon as I get the textures looking right.

Yeah. It's so close to being done, I might as well finish it. After Tuesday's update, I'll compare and make a decision about this mod's future.
