If you're concerned about them intersecting or even being close to each other, as I've said before, it's not even remotely a problem. The Labyrinths are pretty huge though. :biggrin.gif:
Will the dungeons be randomly generated at all? Or will they just be prefab chunks pasted into the world?
For example, it'd be really cool if that library were different every time you went through it.
I love the teaser. The only reason I am still looking at the minecraft forums is to see how this is progressing. Besides playing SMP with my gf this is the only other reason for me to own minecraft. Really looking forward to it.
Oo, just saw your spreadsheet. I will now open it up every morning with the hope of seeing all green.

As mentioned in the thread, the core floors will be the same (unless in a year I pull a Master Quest on this mod and redo all the core floors) and each Labyrinth contains 1-3 randomly generated floors. It's hard to pull off large puzzle/trap/epic exploration areas procedurally, so I create the core floors, entrances and boss lairs by hand.
For now if you aren't doing any coding you could update the OP. Right now you have to look through all 30 pages to find all of the updates you've done.

Notch needs to add this. I rate 9.9/10. There is very few things in which I would change (one being some drawback to the unbreakable pick since it's overpowered). But seriously, great job.

They are unbreakable, but they do run out of power eventually. Look at the spreadsheet for more features.
Hey, I think this is a great idea and I will definitively make a series of videos completing this mod. This is also a GREAT idea. You are a genius. May the riches pour down upon you.

Oh...wow. How did I not notice how much progress had been made on this? I saw this thread earlier in the year, but I forgot about it until now.
This is an outstanding concept, and looks as though it’s being brilliantly executed – a rare combination! This and the Aether collaboration are now my most anticipated Minecraft mods. Just imagine the two of them working in the same world...they’ll enhance the game so much, because they both add a much-needed extension of the exploration aspect of Minecraft.
By the way, I went through the thread and compiled any pictures regarding updates to this mod that weren’t already in the OP – I hope you don’t mind I’m reposting it all...

Huh, I could have sworn I heard something walking around.

Another little teaser.

I've been working on the puzzle/key floors of the Labyrinths. Here's a teaser shot of me working on the Blue Labyrinth.
Quote from Kirb »
Finished the last bit of the blue labyrinth predesign floor.
Working on Blue boss area now.
Quote from Kirb »
On a side note, working on the Red Labyrinth's core floor, the Demon's Manor.

A shot of the Green Labyrinth Core.
Could such a lush green pine forest exist so far underground?

Teaser pic of the Black Labyrinth core floor, The Dark Archives.
A forsaken Great Library and town buried deep within the ground.
The key opens the final door on the bottom floor of the labyrinth. The front door is opened by the placements of two matching artifacts.
After you defeat a labyrinth, the bedrock walls turn to cobblestone.

Artifacts spawn within a roughly 2000-2500 block radius, I believe is what we have it set to. You'd be doing a lot of exploring anyway, and if you use the aether to your advantage, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Update: Choam finished his Assembler code for the Labyrinths, and we're getting things done. After we get labyrinths all connected, he'll begin work on key generation and Labyrinth Boss behaviors!
I'm currently designing each and every labyrinth template from scratch, as well as all the puzzles and traps used in each Labyrinth.
Each labyrinth is comprised of randomized floors with one or two intervals of a 'Special floor.' I've designed these huge floors from the ground up to have special areas and challenges. On the bottom floor, past the locked door lies the lair of that labyrinth's respective boss. I am trying my hardest to prevent Bosses from being a simple 'hack and slash until it dies' boss, so I hope people will enjoy them.
Finished all content ready to be used for the Gold Labyrinth: an ancient temple filled with glowstone.
Starting today, I'll be working on the templates and puzzles/boss for the Blue Labyrinth: a flooded cavern filled with old ruins.
The aether mod is pretty cool. Provided they aren't too greedy with block IDs, I think they should be compatible with this. I've actually felt the urge to add a lot of cool blocks and items in the Artifacts mod, but I'm determined to really only add features and blocks that make contextual sense within our mod.

Passive boosts from holding artifacts caps at 25%
But wearing the Artifact Leggings and having two green artifacts would make you go pretty fast.

Its says that if an artifact is destroyed or stolen, its gone forever. But then its says the world will generate another.
If its not infinite, then I'm not sure I understand.
That's since been changed. A stolen Artifact you will have to get back from a thief.
Artifacts and Artifact tools can only be destroyed on Hard, and if an artifact is destroyed, it *should* generate another. So I suppose you're technically right? But you can never have more than 15, and once all 15 are collected that's it.
Will there be any challenges within the artifact chambers? Like a set number of spesific mobs? Or just the mobs which will spawn there naturally?
As in within the chambers that Artifacts are spawned? Each color differs.
Quote from Kirb »
How can we open labyrinths if we need two matching artifacts yet only one of each type is generated at a time?
They're not! There's not a set number of colors generated, but if you need a specific color for a labyrinth, you can convert artifacts to different colors by using a furnace and a recipe~

I've got two questions:
1. will artifacts be stackable in colours?
2. will the artifact armor be 1.2x as strong as diamond armor as well?
1. Yep.
2. All armor has the same defense, it's just a matter of durability.
Question: Can thieves be turned off? I like my house being safe, even when it only has wooden doors.
They can not be turned off, no. The occurrence of thieves increases with the possession of multiple artifacts (less so with tools) in your own personal inventory. They also only spawn in the dark, so if you want a safe house, keep it well lit with iron exterior doors.
Quote from Kirb »
Collecting all the Artifacts and crafting them into tools (which takes 3 artifacts each) will result in 5 artifact armor pieces of your choosing. When you collect all 15, regardless of what you do with them, you will receive the white artifact.
The Labyrinth route will give you an artifact tool per 2 artifacts and a labyrinth run. This will give you 5 tools for 10 artifacts, and 5 left over, if you still want to find them. When you defeat all 5 labyrinths, you will also receive the white artifact.
I never said you'll never be able to obtain all the pieces, however.~
(Sorry if any of this is out of date, it was information scattered throughout the 30 pages).

That's fine, it's nice having all the images and most of the info in one place, thanks.
