no really, a boss(or multiple bosses) would be amazing.
Perfect idea!
The artifacts shouldn't just be that easy there should be a boss guarding them!
Artifacts should have some sort of defense, but not bosses for all of them... maybe a mob spawner for a few, bosses for some others, and just puzzle type of things as others.. i am working on dungeons and stuff to show some examples of how they COULD look...
here one is, it is unfinished, but will give an idea of what one would look like, for the ones that have a Boss in it, the middle section is where the boss would spawn, and that part behind that is where the chest will be, that holds the Artifact, and maybe some other stuff...
This one is a more of a overview of the entire dungeon:
And this second one is of the center part, the widened area to the left is where the boss would spawn, then rised part to the right is where the chest would be.
i support this idea!
i do stuffs in ps and such if someone needs something
May i ask what 'ps' is? Photoshop? maybe make some skins for the bosses, and artifacts...
My main post is one page 3, with the items that will need sprites, the link in the first post has some sprites for 4 of the items, i will probably use them, and the artifact sprite on that link is also good, but i am probably going to need to learn to do modeled in java coding, and figure out how to add stuff to map generation... and some of the items have some effects i am going to have to figure out how to achieve...
I just wanted to say that I think this whole thing is a really great idea. If this were implemented as a mod, I'd totally jump at it.
I wanted to make a couple of quick points here....
First of all, I do agree that for those that for whatever reason see the need to play this on peaceful, the game should be capable of generating these little gizmos in a peaceful setting. Like, say, if you were on easy/normal/hard, it might generate some sort of crazy dungeon around the artifact with, I dunno, a giant spider guarding it, or some traps or something. But those playing on peaceful might get, say, a small, calm temple room, or.... something. I dunno.
My point is, that if someone doesnt wanna fight, dont make them, but for those of us that want/need a challenge, such as myself, something really dangerous like a boss mob or a dungeon maze filled with DOOOOOOOM would really work well here.
Plus, having this be *difficult* would be more along the linest of what Notch has said he might do for the same concept later on.
I do also think that some sort of definite rewards for doing these might be nice. I mean, yeah, I totally understand how "beating the game is it's own reward", and often with gaming I tend to think that way, buuut.... with THIS game, the player may well want to continue in the current world even after finding all of the things. They might just like that particular world alot, for instance. And in that case, some sort of practical reward might be good. I dont mean like, anything game breaking. Not like, you get all 10, and you get the Uber Flaming Sword of Epic Mountainous Doom +32, or something. But there could be smaller rewards that you get as you gather the artifacts. For instance, maybe doubling the player's jump height might be one of them. That sure as heck isnt something game-breaking, not whatsoever, but it is something with alot of practical use. Or you could maybe give resistance to fall damage, or maybe make it so all armor lasts 1.5 times longer.... stuff like that. It doesnt all need to be Ultimate Dimensional Socks of Laser Doom.
Aaaanyway, that'd be my thoughts on this. Whole thing is a great idea so far, hoping to see it actually get made into something!
Great for a mod, but I think that if MC ever adds stronger-than diamond stuff, it should be in tiers going up and up, becoming ever-so close to unbreakable, conquering a multitude of different dimensions (aether, among others) and dungeons to get better and better metals, wood, and unique materials.
I will support artifacts, but I don't necessarily agree with the endgame reward. I think "armor++" and "weapon++" is kind of uncreative. The endgame reward should give the player a power they did not have before, I think. That's why I proposed spontaneous block/structure creation and mob mind control, because they are powers that no player had before. Flight may also work as a reward.
The point was to create rewards that are good but not necessarily game-breaking in a multiplayer as well as single-player environment.
I also think each individual artifact should provide some sort of reward too, to make it worthwhile to look for them.
This however, I had considered when originally writing up my idea. I will add it to the proposal in the future. You'll have to have the artifacts on your person for the passive boosts to work, but that also means you're in danger of losing the artifact if you die or are attacked by thieves.
If boss ever get added, maybe they could drop an artifact on death... I hope this get into official minecraft!
Bosses I don't think will be added in this particular mod. However, thieves and treasure hunters will have a very rare chance of dropping an artifact or divining stone- check the OP!

Maybe you should include an artifact in the divining stone recipe and make so that you lose the divining stone on death; this will make it very hard to get all 10 of them - Wich imo it needs to be
I wouldn't go that far for the recipe, but I AM thinking of changing the divining stone so that you have to physically place them (and you cannot gather them again) to triangulate the position of the artifact. Of course, this may prove to be too difficult to mod.

With the artifact items craftable at end-game, this mod is epic and should be included in vanilla Minecraft.
Diamonds to you for the thought process and obvious time investment gone into perceiving this desirable mod.
WTB modder for this.
Also, I want an indestructible sword that shoots fireballs to be a legitimately acquired item without the use of mods >:ohmy.gif:
I do actually have a modder on this, Wolfie.
I was thinking of the sword only shooting fireballs when you have full hearts, a la Zelda.
After finalizing the ideas, I will be creating a new thread for the WIP mod.

Perhaps scale the damage done downward as your hearts decrease? I think that would make more sense than just an arbitrary cutoff of fireball usage when you have a sliver of life missing. Just my 0.02. Would make a lovely alternative to a bow and arrow to do away with those pesky skeleton archers and ghasts. Especially if I were to use the Dragon armor mod to make a nice full suit of sick Dragon armor with my epic artifact sword of pwning leetness.

Wait... do you mean W07f13(its 1337 for wolfie)? or just Wolfie?
I for one think there should be 1 EPICLY STRONG boss in EVERY artifact cave(except on peaceful) but here the thing there should be a way to get the artifact without combat/gettin ass wupped, e.g you enter the artifact cave, the artifact is embedded in a wall, the boss is chained to the artifact, so he cant reach you unless you go too close, you then "dig up" and hit the surface, walk until you are behind the artifact so when you dig down there is a nice big wall between you and the boss, remove artifact breaking bosses chain, boss then becomes allied mob due to you "freeing it", then you could lead you allied boss to the next artifact cave so you can watch an EPIC DEATHMATCH! :happy.gif:
