An idea for slingshots came to me a while ago, but then I figured you might as well be throwing rocks. So then why not make cobblestone craftable into throwable rocks? The damage should be around the same as punching, given the high availability of cobblestone.
Also, guns. The less-available iron and sulfur would make for a powerful bunderbus.

Edit: Also, pitch. What's the point of having flaming arrows if you can't trap your enemies with a wall of fire?

This is just one step closer towards implementation, my editing as of late hasnt been so frequent mainly because I have rl issues at hand, however with such positive responses and help from many users this is one of my goals for my future playing of minecraft.

I've had this idea for a ranged weapon, and I know it resembles a firearm, but because it doesn't use any metal and is a bit lower-tech I was thinking it could work in here.

It would be a single-use short-range weapon that would deal a lot of damage. The arrow travels strait for 8 blocks, but after that it just drops and deals only normal arrow damage.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.

That reminds me of the idea earlier that had a mythbusters video attached. i think blowpipes of any form are a great idea. Theyre cheap and easy to make, making them a useful weapon to have :smile.gif:

That has been mentioned before, basically they are japanese rockets if I am correct
They fire from bamboo tubes and they splinter an area in spears.
However, I think a more resonable idea is maybe improving the current arrow dispenser, like maybe trip wire or burst fire could be added.
The arrow dispenser is the first step, WE MUST IMPROVE!
Also, everyone who has ideas about the bow or suggestions about arrows or anything useful to the ranged weapons section. Post here!
I mean even the "Headshots doing more damage" thread (just an example) could be linked here. Full credit goes to the creators. merely this is a one stop shop for all things ranged.
I think that staffs or wands should be included having differnet attacks for different ores They can either have durability where each cast reduces its durability ooorrr use ammo
Good side to ammo is that the wand can sit tight like the bow without fear of losing it and you can change out ammo to do different attacks or abilities almost similar to the bow idea with all the different arrows. Possibly it could be that Magic Staffs are harder to make and do not need ammo but have one cast ability to it like Red dye iron ore.... or Red stone for fire and other types of material to decide its cast ability. Wands......easier to make but require ammo
Both weapons should require some gold in it. They way the Wands and Staffs Differ from Bows is that they should be Slightly weaker but have ... a much further range and......they do not arch they flight straight the whole way
Staff: {Ability Ore } Wand:
My friend came up with this idea it came up cause we play DnD and we thought if we could play in a pre built world designed by DM to play in but Magic casters would be out it wouldnt be complete DnD With DM guiding the Players in Real Time instead of Turn based combat with pre-determined encounters and switch pig skins over to horses to let you ride them or something like that details are being worked out but we think this is a good idea

I am not sure but I believe there is a magic thread already. Okay I dont want to go into detail but you sparked my imagination:
Herbs: Two types of herbs, red and blue, they are crafted into potions that can heal health and mana. You have 10 mana and 10 hearts. Each potion heals 2.5 hearts or mana.
Wooden Wand : Basic magic bolt attack that uses 3 mana per shot. Does 2 hearts damage per shot. Stone Wand : Summons a golem that requires 7.5 mana to summon. Punches enemies, each punch doing 0.5 hearts of damage. Iron Wand : Electrocutes the enemy and any enemies near it for 5 mana. The intial hit does 5 hearts of damage while the surrounding eemies recieve 2.5 hearts of damage. Stuns mobs for 3 seconds. Gold Wand : Creates a fireball which devastates opponents and the terrain they stand on for 5 mana. It does 5 hearts of damage and it also destroys nearby blocks in the explosion radius. Diamond Wand : Whips up a powerful blizzard which freezes and damages enemies for 10 mana. 10x10 danger zone summoned around the targeted enemy rains havoc of ice and wind. Whipping mobs around into blocks. This is the one hit K.O attack, but it just slaughters the environment by making snow blocks form and water freeze up.
Okay, forget everything I said there, unless people wish for me to make a magic thread I will leave it there.

Trip wire = pressure plates. Burst fire = redstone clocks. I think. I saw a video about it.

This was a very good thread about how magic should work if it got put into minecraft. It was the only one that I have seen that didn't try to change minecraft, but instead built on it.
its a good idea but most of it should be kept toward the mod idea, because i play like when i might see something i look straight at it and fire as many arrows in that direction as possible, so the slowing down of the arrows wouldn't help but hinder, the arrow design shouldn't change either because i don't want to make two stacks of sticks for four stack of arrows nor two stacks of feathers, but the additions are GOLD i really like the explosive one cause, i love blowing stuff up and the cross bow could use some work on how to make it. for example instaed of having to make a bow with it to add a bow with the planks , just my 2 cents but all in all a fantastic idea

I support this, also why not add it so you can wield 2 Knives, but you can't wield 2 spears, cuz i loooove Dual daggers held backward, just like lass in grand chase, and this would go great if it was an smp mod, to attach it with mana and classy plugins to make it MMORPG like.
Interesting... One extra thing might be some sort of arrow that can trigger a pressure plate. Perhaps a reduced damage arrow with an extra heavy head.
With my idea in the magic thread linked above, you could use an ice staff to freeze water, and then shoot a torch arrow at the ice to put out torches, thus triggering a trap. For more slimplistic purposes though, I propose this.

The blank spots are white wool. The torch is a redstone torch. This would give you a placeable target (can be put on walls). Shooting the target would release an electrical charge. Note, this would probably work best if there was some way to put wires on walls. Actually Lapis Lazuli doesn't have much of a use. Maybe it could work as a redstone dust that is placed on walls? That way, it doesn't interfere with redstone, but still helps with electrical wiring. This is getting a bit off topic.
Maybe. Also screw COD:BO, I am getting Halo:Reach <3
(Its my thread and I wanted to bring that up)
Also, guns. The less-available iron and sulfur would make for a powerful bunderbus.
