I'm trying to create a parody of your typical mod, I've already used guns and all I need are some other generic mod elements
If you want to mimic generic newbie-created mods you'll need some emerald, ruby, redstone, obsidian, unobtanium, insert-material-here tools & armor. All of which are naturally WAAAaaaaaayy better than Diamond stuff because of course they are!
Seriously, if I had a dollar for every time I'd seen one of these mods over the years I'd be a significantly wealthier man. They're a complete cliche so having some stuff like this would be perfect for your parody mod.
Extremely unbalanced crafting recipes, like dirt to diamonds, are often associated with low-quality mods (yes, such mods do exist), otherwise, many mods often add recipes or items which would be considered to be too unbalanced for vanilla (this includes mods which add extremely overpowered mobs which require equally powerful gear to defeat; they should be balanced around vanilla mobs/items unless they are also changed, then you may as well not change them since a 100 damage sword vs 1000 HP mob is the same as 10 damage vs 100 HP).
I also consider overcomplicated crafting recipes, especially if they require items whose sole purpose is an intermediate crafting result and/or specialized crafting stations with few good uses to be low-quality (looks at Mojang and 1.14. Nether stars are an example of an item with a single use in crafting something but they are a special mob drop so they have a good reason for existing).
Also, things like thirst and temperature bars, especially if not implemented very well (e.g. water bottles can be infinitely refilled from a single water source so you can simply bring a water bucket, which I and many others already carry, and a bottle, which just ends up wasting an inventory slot).
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
LOL, for once someone agrees that gun mods are cliche.
Several of the highest ranked people on the modding discord I'm in have gun mods, granted they are up there in quality with Flan's and Vic's Modern Warfare, but they might as well be called Yet Another Weapons Mod XD. Though we will shun anyone who says they use MCCreator (help denied). It's basically just a kid's toy, a minigame of mod making, far from a real IDE.
And yes, I absolutely hate random tools and armor mods that just add higher stats and nothing special.
Powerful bosses are not always noobish, Botania and Draconic Evolution are two popular mods off the top of my head that implement them pretty well. The whole idea of them is to get something really valuable from them that can't be obtained using vanilla gear. The only time they are stupid is when they drop some relatively lame loot or worse nothing but give an achievement. (Advent of Ascention is an example of one of the worst cases of this)
Also, complicated recipes are meant for harder mods/harder modpacks (which often have custom weird recipes). Most tech mods have intermediate parts, otherwise 1)it wouldn't be balanced based on the function of the item or block 2) you would run out of recipes real quick in a big pack if they were all super simple
EDIT: The mod id has to be "tm" (for tutorial mod) that way it conflicts if you actually install a real noob mod XD
it has to be based on a movie/anime/popular LPerbait game, and by "based on" i mean you only add in characters from that piece of media as rudimentary mobs who are basically just reskinned zombie pigmen
