So, this is my first time writing here so, please excuse any mistakes. I was thinking of a way to bring the swamp area truly alive and with all the new water updates I thought of what I think could be a good idea. So here goes:
(Note: This is excluding other biomes, and will stay specific to swamp biomes)
So, when night falls in a swamp biome it will begin raining and the water level will slowly rise overnight to a max of 3-4 blocks deep, literally engulfing the biome. Then, during the day as the sun beats down on the swamp the water will slowly evaporate away to its original level.
This is a pretty undeveloped thought but I think it would be really cool.
The water in the swamp biomes is at sea level, and swamps are, in my experience, almost always sea adjacent. Other biomes adjacent to the swamp may also be fairly shallow, lower than what the water could rise to This would mean that you'd have a conspicuous wall of water occupying just the swamp. If a river cuts through, it will also interrupt the flood.
A better solution would be global tides. (The actual reason behind swamps flooding IRL) The primary obstacle is how to do this without lagging the game into oblivion. (lag would also be an issue if just swamps had tides)
