I have an idea for a mod I'm calling redstonery. The basis is not to replace vanilla redstone, but to instead add blocks and tweak things to make it easier or more powerful.
The current list of feature ideas is as follows:
A form of repeater that does not have a delay on it. Made with a repeater and 4 sugar.
A form of repeater that does not strengthen the signal for use with comparators. Made with a repeater and 1 wool.
Pistons will be able to move pressure plates.
Dispensers can flip levers and press buttons in the block they are facing, allowing for super compact toggle latches and pulse formers (monostable circuits)
A form of piston, known as the simple piston, which you can place redstone on top of, but it does not have quasi-connectivity. Made with 1 piston and 1 wool, available in a sticky variety.
A form of hopper called a sorting hopper, which acts the same as normal, except that pushing items is processed before pulling items, but still in the same tick. Made with 1 hopper and 4 gold ingots.
This is the idea for the mod, which is going to be simple but very powerful for redstone.

I like this, I can try it, noob moddern here though, so who knows.
That is very true. However, there are many benefits to these being in the game. For example, all of these mechanisms/circuits would become much more compact. Also, some of the normal versions of these things have lag or create noise, which is annoying. Also, how would you create a repeater without a delay?
Have you guys ever heard of project red (redpower)? It has some really compact logic blocks that are exactly wha you described. You could even place them on walls to have it more compact, or use these wires to have a signal travelling long distances without losing strength (and without delay).
I have used redpower and project red, and neither of them add the things on this list, other than toggle latch and pulse former gates. Neither of those add things like pistons that move pressure plates (frames sort of do that, but they are designed for larger scale jobs, and are bulky compared to a sticky piston) or a repeater that adds no delay, or any of the other things in the original post.
Actually you do still need repeaters, red alloy wire does need a repeater after 255 blocks, not to mention that red alloy wire is really laggy compared to vanilla redstone. As for funky locomotion, it is more bulky than a sticky piston to move 1 block, because with funky locomotion you need 2 frame motors to move a block back and forth, while you can use just 1 sticky piston. (Not to mention RF usage).

I like this. I hope this becomes a mod.
There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

but you have 2 ticks of delay instead of the 1 with a repeater.
That is worse than a repeater if the point is to not have a delay. Your design is bigger, and has twice the delay.

Yeah project red is this, and more.
WARNING:
My output of snark depends on your output of stupidity.
My patience wears thin on strawmen and lies.

You don't nned non-delay repeaters if you've got red-alloy-wires or wireless stuff.
For the pressure plates use funky locomotion.
