Okay, so I've been thinking for quite some time now that an actual working mod that simulates an Age of Empires style progression would be awesome.
I got the idea while playing JurassiCraft (an awesome dinosaur mod). The idea is to start a world in the 'Caveman Age' and progress to the 'Future Age'. The twist is that in each age (hopefully will have at least 7) there will be a specific set of mobs and a specific set of items.
For the 'Caveman Age' there will be dinosaurs (perhaps permission could be gotten from the creators of JurassiCraft to use their mobs) and they are the only mobs in that age. As well as the different mobs it would have more primitive tools (only a wooden club) and building materials (only wooden materials but things like planks cannot be made and breaking a tree gives sticks and wood chunks, not logs). This would mean that only caves can be inhabited in this age.
As you progress the tools and materials would get better and the dinosaurs would die out a few species at a time (or evolve into smaller animals perhaps using mo' creatures for the fully evolved animals) and at the 5th Age you would be in regular minecraft (but with more animals).
When the player makes it to the final 'Future Age' they would have the option to bring dinosaurs back again like JurassiCraft already allows.
A few others ideas I had were:
- To advance to a new age, a set of challenges/achievements must be accomplished (if playing as a server or LAN then can be by a group of players together)
--- Achievments for the 'Caveman Age' would include:
----- Create a straw bed (straw collected from dead long grass)
----- Create a club (one stick and six wood chunks)
----- Kill a dinosaur (one of the smaller ones such as a compy would be easy enough)
----- Survive five days and nights (don't die for five days and nights)
----- Make fire (not sure how this would happen - maybe a combination of sticks and flint and ?)
- The Age before regular 'MineCraft Age' is the 'Ice Age'
--- Somehow make dinosaurs easier or harder to bring back later depending on what the player(s) do during this age.
- Depending on how the player interacts with the mobs, depends on which mobs go extinct (probably very difficult to implement)
If anyone thinks they could make a mod like this please do and please let me know
Its a good idea, the logical way to "Progress" through the ages would be through portals. Each age would have specific materials to create a portal to the next age. The materials could be gained through boss fights, mining, or quests. Kind of like dimensions? and when you reach the last age, have the ability to time travel or just go into the other ages. Just a thought...
