This mod will be inspired/based on the 1953 film "The War Of The Worlds", a film I've always loved since childhood. However, despite my ability to create halfway decent techne models, and textures, I know minimal Java, and am looking for anyone willing to help make this dream mod come true. I have a few basic ideas, ready to present.
At the start of the game, one cylinder will fall (similar to the hostileworlds meteor I would expect.). Guarded by a deadly heat ray eye that looks for players, as the cylinder slowly becomes a brighter, glowing green. When it reaches the FULL green brightness, the cylinder explodes, and three Warships begin scanning the area.
The warships will be similar similar to the test model I threw together below. They are menacing, flying objects controlled by the overseer tripod, on sight of any living creature, they will hurl flames, as well as explosive, green balls of energy at the player (essentially just a redesigned Wither, with higher strength and attack. They are nearly invincible, nearly impossible to bring down, without destruction of an overseer.

Essentially the "Mothership" of the martian forces, located near a pit as a large, towering tripod over the pit, which rotates it massive head around, controlling the forces remotely, players will be able to climb up into this entity, filled with several controlling martians within, the player will then activate a disease bomb within a martian "LifeBlood" tank, killing those within, and in turn, the entire force of that cylinder. Beware, however, as the Overseer is a deadly assault force as well, able to fire its deadly heat-ray in multiple directions.
The martians are odd, brown colored, bipeds, with an odd, multicolored eye, and not much else, they feed on a substance made from the blood of captured human beings, which is their only source of food, called "lifeblood." Martians are eager to kill players swiftly with their small heat blasters, feeding on the energy from their later processed blood. On sight of a human (which they eagerly pursue, even going into houses to find victims) they will blast balls of fire at the player, although their attack force is high, the martians themselves are fragile, being killed by the simplest punches in only a few hits.

Probes are small, block wide drones, which emit a small tentacle into houses, with an electronic eye on the end, they will peer through the smallest of openings, and on sight of a player, they will summon multiple martians to gather and feed on unsuspecting victims.
1. LifeBlood chamber.
A large tank inside of an overseer machine, filled with the processed, now glowing blood of human beings. A small disease bomb can be dropped into this tank, infecting all martians, and in turn, destroying an entire sector of forces. This is the only weakness of a martian force.
2. Processing Plant.
Located underneath a pit, and overseer machine. Filled with civilian humans, trapped in cages, a player can fight off martians to destroy the core of a plant, freeing the humans as damage is slowly dealt to them in their chambers, killing them for their blood.
Civilians are a passive mob, ravaged citizens from nearby villages, martians will attack them, and a multitude are bred at a processing plant for Martian lifeblood, essentially used as a way to create a scene of chaos, and a potential distraction for martians to insure player getaway.
Soldiers will fire explosives at martian warships, however typically in vain, and can aid the player in escapes and distractions, as they gather around cylinders to attack.
As the game progresses, a total of 10 cylinders will fall, one each day. A player can then choose to initiate a second invasion via console command, granted they have destroyed all ten units.
I hope you enjoyed this idea, and I'm very eager to create it, if there is anyone who has experience in mod development (preferable someone skilled, not asking for children who expect me to do all of the work, and them get credit for it.), and wishes to partner with me on this project, I would be more than grateful. I would love to see this idea come into play.
Despite there being no replies, I've still been working on models for this until I can either A. Figure this out on my own, or B. Get someone with Java experience to partner with me, (Of course, a majority of credit will be theirs.) Anyway, here is a Martian, I based it off of a model kit due to the fact that the bottom half is never seen in the film. There will be an alternate Martian, with a metallic platform allowing them to levitate around, firing small heat ray blasts from above.

A better War Ship design is being made as well, better than the test version I hastily threw together for the presentation, I hope you guys enjoy!
So yeah, no replies yet, but I'm still trying to a little on my own until someone with experience comes in, if they do. I've almost finished all of the models, and I've made simple tests in MCreator, which is all I know how to do, anyway here they are.

This mod looks extremely amazing! I love how the machines look and how the martian looks. I do wish the probe was attached to the machine, but as long as it can pear through windows and travel through holes in the house like it did in the movie, I approve. The overseer is okay, even though I am not particularly interested in it. Really like the picture of a bunch of them attacking. Is this ever going to be released?
Probably not, I'm more of a LUA coder and I've hit a road bump in development as I do not have the skills to go further at this rate, I also I ship out to basic training in a couple of months. I'm currently designing a multiplayer gamemode centered around war of the worlds for Garry's Mod, which I'm much more excited a bout, when that's finished, if you have GMOD I'd be happy to let you know!
If anyone still reads this thread please note that I too am working on a 1953 war of the worlds mod. I don't want it to seem that I'm copying or anything though. Right now I'm working on world generation, ores & stuff but I'm happy if anyone would like to help. (Someone with java knowledge is preffered but anyone will be accepted.) Perhaps I could help on the current mod.
Here are some ideas about the mod: When your creating a world there will be a button which you can press if you want the automatic invasion or to change to creative & spawn them in yourself. With the automatic invasion you have six days to prepare before wave one. (Each wave is a cylinder a day three days in a row.) The cylinder will land 300 blocks from the player or closer. Then you have another day to prepare between waves. There will be a total of six waves & then there will be a three day break before the martians then begin to spread out across the world. After another day "Phase two" will start. This means that the martians themselves & the "Spy" will begin to spawn within a three to ten block radius of their war ships. From then on you will be able to take control of fallen ships that you take down. But if a martian gets inside or even touches the ship then it will take back the ship & control it once more. Then after six Minecraft days the martians will begin to build structures. Once a structure/city is completed a huge tripod will spawn. (The tripod will probably be a BOSS.) It has extra health & is like a regular ship except it is three times bigger & has tall legs. It also has spines along to tops. It will be equiped with "super" weapons & will summon war ships when near a village. The only real way to destroy it is to use a martian war ship. Even though other war ships won't notice you in if your in a war ship but the battle tripod will sense you & attack. (Even though the cylinders may stop coming the already existing ones will continue to spawn ships, martians & spies. For those who don't know what the spy is it is the bottom picture.
Oh wait, I forgot a few things! I believe there should perhaps be structures for players to hide in & to gather rescources from. Another ship function should be that if you are found by a spy then it has a 50/50 chance of levitating you & taking you back to it's ship where you will be kept in a tank & slowly wither away. Or it may summon martians that will latch on to you & feed off you until you die. It would also be logical if they attacked villagers as well. I think it would be cool for the martians to still have the classic red, green & blue eye but with a creeper face like in my previous post.
To me the Overseer tripod is a fabulous idea! I love the concept of humans being trapped inside the cages. It gives that sinister effect if you know what I mean. Does the tripod only have two legs or is that just the angle of the screen shot. Well done & I admire what youv'e done so far.
