I don't know if it already exists because I can't find anything on it. I was wondering if someone could make a torch mod for 1.6.4 that is nothing but colored torches.
They would work in every way like a normal torch. Same brightness, same light glow color, except that instead of using just coal, they would be crafted by integrating dyes
For example, to make a green torch you would need to get yourself some green dye.
So smelting a cactus gets your green dye. Then, taking that green dye and crafting it with some coal to make a green coal paste. That paste would then be crafted with a stick to create a green torch. Boom.
Some people don't like using a minimap mod, like me. It kinda feels like cheating to be honest. There's no need for a map or compass with that kind of mod. Instead, this mod would have more of a vanilla feel to it.
The best use of this mod that I can think of off the top of my head would be to use different colored torches to mark paths in mineshafts or caves to find your way back to the entrance.
I remember someone asked for this a while ago, and due to the way colors are processed in minecraft, you can't achieve colored light without rewriting their lighting engine, or some extremely complex thing that I can't remember.
This is an example of someone in the process of rewriting the lighting engine and cramming RGB values into four bit inside each block, and then using those to process and compute color.

Op isn't asking for coloured light, just several torches with different coloured textures and crafting recipes
