Yes, I know tonnes of other falconry mod request threads are out there- However, most of them aren't particularly good, so I decided to suggest one of my own. Now, before you read this, I want to say that this is my first thread, so I am open to anybody's opinions, suggestions and criticism. If your suggestion is better than mine (Which it probably will, because my ideas suck) I will probably edit the thread to include it.
TL;DR: I suck.
There, we're good now.
Essentially, birds of prey will spawn occasionally in the wild and can be tamed. Concept art is to come soon (That will most likely mostly be either really bad drawings or retextured bats).
Owl: Owls will spawn in cold biomes. Wild owls cannot be tamed. You must get their egg and hatch an imprint (explained below)
Eagle: Eagles will spawn in mesas and forests. Eagles will eat either raw pork or beef (Mutton in 1.8 too)
Hawk: Hawks will spawn in plains(?) and are tamed with raw pork, beef or fish
Falcon: Falcons will spawn in forests and will be tamed with raw pork or fish (Raw rabbit in 1.8)
Buzzard: Buzzards would spawn in deserts and mesas and would be tamed with raw beef, pork, or rotten flesh
Dragonbird: A rare spawn in the End, would look a little like a larger buzzard with dragon-like wings, automatically hostile and can teleport 2-3 blocks. Can be tamed with enderpearls
Phoenix: Rare spawn in the nether. Flys away from player unless cornered or provoked, at which point it will attack. Attacks set targets on fire. Tamed with blaze powder or magma cream. Will not lay eggs
There are two ways of taming these birds of prey- The first is to approach them with their favourite meat. Like ocelots, they will slowly inch towards you, and when startled, they will either fly away or attack you if you're below half health.
The second method is by waiting for one to lay an egg, and then collecting it. Upon picking up the egg, the bird that laid the egg will get agreed and fly after you relentlessly until you get out of it's follow range (32 blocks- This seems like a lot, however, as they are birds of prey, I feel like they should have relatively good sight) The egg can then be thrown for a guaranteed chance to spawn a baby bird of the type the egg was lain by. The bird will then be imprinted on (tamed to) the player that threw the egg.
Tamed birds would seek out perches and sit on them. When hovered over, a tamed bird's name tag would display as "[Playername]'s [Bird Name]" Baby tamed birds must be fed the raw meat used to tame them (In the case of the dragonbird, it would be fed rotten flesh) every in-game day the player is online. If the player is offline in the case of multiplayer, the bird will be in a sort of "limbo" state, where it cannot be damaged and will not require feeding. (Alternatively, the bird could simply log off along with it's owner) When a bird is hungry, it will tilt it's head sideways (much like a wolf) and make screeching noises. After several in-game days, (say, 20) it will eventually grow up. Adult birds can then be right clicked to open a GUI (concept art to come soon). They can then be set to "Hunt" (attack passive mobs in a 100-block radius, however always leaving a breeding pair, then dropping the meat in front of you when it's finished), "Defend" (Fly alongside the player and attack any mobs that attack it's owner), "Attack" (Fly alongside the player and attack any hostile mobs in a 10-block radius), "Follow" (Fly alongside the player) or "Stay" sit on any nearby perches.
After several minecraft weeks, a tamed dragonbird will grow even larger than it's wild counterpart. At this point, it can be saddled and ridden, will prefer to stay on the ground rather than flying, and will have significantly higher attack strength. When riding a dragonbird, you can jump 4 times while in mid-air
Falconer's gloves: When an entity or player is right clicked with falconer's gloves in your hand, any birds following you would fly over to it and attack. When a block is right clicked with them, tamed birds would fly towards it. When the air is right clicked with them, tamed birds would fly back to you. Crafted like so, where I= Iron ingot L = Leather and H = Empty space:
HHL L I L HLL
Tamed birds would automatically seek out perches and sit on them, unless told not to (Ordered to follow, defend, etc.)
Crafted like so, where I=Stick, H=Empty space and W= Wooden slab:
My avatar is a spectral archmage exiled from his native realm for practicing light magic, as most Undead use blood magic to gain immortality and fear the light. Due to this he hates his own kind and, save for the Rebellion of Light, generally kills the Undead on sight. Skilled in water and light magic, syringe guns and frying pans. Peaceful unless threatened. My dolphin is also spectral and his name is Bob
