I was wondering if someone has made a simple 3x3x1 pick/shovel mod. I'm using Tinkerer Construct for the Hammer and the Excavator. I'm more interested in a mod that would allow something like putting nine pick axes in a crafting grid and getting out one that works like the one put in, only on a 3x3x1 area, with that same wear of a single axe (If a stone pick axe gets 132, then the tool here will still allow 132 uses per pick, so a total durability of 1188.)
I don't believe this idea is unique so I figured I'd ask about it first.
One thing I have noticed is that mods that add tools like these either amp the cost of the tool to ridiculous degrees, add a ton of extra items, or a layer of complexity that's just plan evil for my friends that play recreational style. Something simple and separate would be cool.

I've wanted this mod, too. I do have some modding knowledge, but it's very small and limited. Maybe if I figure out how to mod more, I could make it.
EDIT: OK, I just looked it up on Google, I don't see any off hand. But that doesn't mean they don't exist.
As for textures, you wouldn't need to do too much. You're basically augmenting existing items. I'll probably just mod sphax's pack's images. Maybe a Photoshop glow around the outside.
Uhh yeah, sorry kind of forgot about the thread. Its just Wood-Stone-iron-gold. You make a Three pickaxe with three pickaxes of one sort, and then you make a nine pickaxe with 3 of the threepickaxes.
I got tired of waiting for the graphic images from Alexcamostyle and decided to make placeholders until he/she submits their's. I just tipped the default ones with blue since that's my favorite color. I normally use the Johnsmith texture pack (experimented with sphax, but couldn't adapt) so these really are just place holders for me.

Sorry! I forgot! So sorry!
I'll make it now. Those are nice textures.
Alright, here it is. Texture credits to Alexcamostyle. I'll create an actual mod thread for it when I have time.
As a side note, the direction it chooses is kind of buggy if it isn't head on. I used my own code instead of the TinkersConstructs, so I'm going to go look through how it chooses the direction. So for now, just make sure you hit it straight on, and I'll probably have it fixed by Friday.
Edit: This is the 1.7.2 link, oops. Let me recompile for 1.7.10
Edit 2.0: Here is the 1.7.10 link. I can't test it because for some reason when I try to run forge 1.7.10 my minecraft crashes. Tell me if something breaks, and I'll try to fix it

Edit: Update - JiffyJay made a mod and Alexcamostyle made the graphics for a mod that does this. The mod is located athttp://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2189027-earth-movers-simpler-alternative-to-tinkers
Go there and post your support for this awesome mod!

Awesome! What do you want it to look like? I'm OK at pixel art, I might be able to do it.
EDIT : I derped..
AlexCamoStyle: Do whatever you want with it, I can't even think of what it should look like.
Ok.
The Three pickaxes mine three blocks horizontally
The Nine pickaxes mine a 3x3 square
Sorry! I forgot! So sorry!
I'll make it now. Those are nice textures.

Here are the correctly sized ones:

Just tried it, it's awesome!! Thank you so much for creating this mod!
EDIT: I found a bug. Joining a world resets the pick's damage.
