So, has anyone here ever heard of the amazing game, Impossible Creatures? If you haven't, let me sum it up real quick.
Impossible Creatures is an old game where you can combine 2 creatures to make some sort of crazy hybrid. Creatures you can use have special abilities, weaknesses, etc. You made a small army of these "hybrids". You then sent battled to the death against 1-5 enemy armies using your creatures. There were special structures used for these, different maps, mods and even official mods, a campaign, and even at one point multiplayer. However, the game didn't get that much popularity. Different creatures are different research levels. You have to do the research to be able to spawn/create them in-game. Research does cost coal and electricity, the two resources you need to do everything. Research goes from levels 1-5. You start with level 1 already researched. Due to that, the game no longer was updated. However, people still make mods for it. I highly suggest trying it if you haven't already. It is an amazing game.
My idea is an Impossible Creatures mod for Minecraft. There would be special structures you now build (by build, I mean build like you would a golem) for Impossible Mobs, henchmen (these guys did your coal digging), genetically combining vanilla mobs and new mobs, enemy bases, multiplayer support, and more. This thread will tell you how this would work in detail. Feel free to only read part of it before making a comment. Make sure to read enough so you know some of the details.
Let's start off with some of the creatures that would be in this mod and their abilities. Some creatures would have weaknesses to make it balanced. We don't want any overpowered creatures. To unlock a creature, you would have to shoot it with a special gun that collects DNA. You only have to shoot that species once and then you can use that creature in your army as many times as you want. Stronger creatures may be rarer. All creatures can be told to sit and follow like wolves. You can select multiple creatures at once, so you command all of the selected creatures to do the same thing by telling one to sit, follow, etc. Creature combining would work a lot like the necromancy mod. Note: When I say health and strength, I'm putting health and attack damage in half hearts.

Cow Health: 20 Melee Strength: 3 Range Attack?: None Range Strength: 0 Abilities: Charge (charge into foes from a distance, doing extra damage), Immunity (immune to harmful potion effects), Pack Hunter (does more damage in a group of 3 or more) Weaknesses: Flees when on low health Research: 3 Rarity: Common, found in all biomes with grass

Health: 20 Melee Strength: 3 Range Attack?: None Range Strength: 0 Abilities: Suicidal (explodes upon death damaging all nearby mobs but does not destroy blocks) Weaknesses: Takes extra damage from things combined with feline creatures Research: 3 Rarity: Common, found at night
Health: 10 Melee Strength: 4 Range Attack?: None Range Strength: 0 Abilities: Feline (does extra damage to creepers), Quick (very fast compared to other creatures), Feather Falling (takes no fall damage) Weaknesses: Is weaker in water Research: 3 Rarity: Uncommon, found in Jungles
Health: 10 Melee Strength: 2 Range Attack?: Yes, ink squirt Range Strength: 3, gives blindness (blindness is only effective on players though) Abilities: Aquatic (is faster in water), Sea Creature (is stronger in water) Weaknesses: Cannot go on land without being combined with a creature with legs Research: 2 Rarity: Common, found in water
Health: 30 Melee Strength: 7 Range Attack?: None Range Strength: 0 Abilities: Aquatic (is faster in water), Water Regeneration (slowly regenerates health over time when in water) Weaknesses: Gets a slowness 1 effect when on land Research: 4 Rarity: Rare, found in Swamps
I will add more to the thread as time goes by. I plan on making frequent updates. Eventually, there will be much more info like the new items, blocks, how enemy bases work, more mob info, etc. Make sure to leave feedback! Rarity: (should use scales from 1 to 20) 4, but you can make one by using a Fusion Potion (my idea, and it rhymes!!!)
Fusion Potion brewing recipe:
Nether Wart > Ghast Tear > Red mushroom > Ender Dust > Redstone dust = Fusion Potion (you now have to add a Potion of Water Breathing for it to work)
How to use it: Herd 2-4 mobs together. Make sure they are close by 3x3 blocks. Throw a Fusion Potion for each mob. Wait 8 seconds, then an explosion will happen (though, it will not cause damage), while bubbles of Water Breathing, Harming, Leaping, and Invisibility come out. You now created your Fused Mob.
