I know there have been a number of posts on increasing the Vanilla Minecraft view distance and there have been some advances with mods such as Optifine, but these still leave much to be desired...
Imagine having a tower that you could climb and view nearly your entire world...
Imagine gazing out across the ocean at the neighbouring isles...
Most of the mod ideas talk about just increasing the render distance and this just causes a heavier load for your computer to handle. I'm a big fan of the Elder Scrolls games and my favourite of the bunch is Morrowind. Morrowind has this lovely little tool called Morrowind Graphics Extender (MGE) and one of the functions of this tool was the generation of a seperate world mesh which was the textured and detailed to allow the illusion of "infinite view".
My question is: Is this possible in Minecraft? To export your world and have a seperate low poly model which can be used as a Distant Land mesh?
Well in minecrafts case there are no polygons, so maybe if you coded it so it would only render 1 or 2 layers of blocks after the view distance ended, then you could see way further, and maybe simplifying the textures on the blocks more for even longer view distances. Would this work?
It has nothing to do with simplifying the textures, the problem is knowing WTF is over there which requires loading chunks into memory, and loading "all chunks into memory" will cause the program to go into a stack overflow and run out of memory and crash.

the only way this would work would be on either a finite map or a supercomputer with infinite RAM
Don't forget infinite RAM addressing. Which would need an infinite bit CPU.

1. lag, lots of lag
2. long time to render that far
but if good computer that would be awesome
