So you're walking along and you find a floating island...
So you're cutting down a tree, and it doesn't fall down...
How come only sand and gravel follow the laws of physics? What if there was a mod that broke all blocks that weren't connected to the ground?
Ex.: Cutting down a tree from the bottom and the whole thing comes down along with the leaves.
Terrain generator no longer creates floating islands.
Idea for how it works: Bedrock is considered the bottom of the map so therefore anything directly connected to bedrock stays. Anything else that is broken off, like a tree being cut down or a floating island, pops off and is now able to be picked up.
Think of another good indie game based off of Minecraft called Ace of Spades. Floating structures break and fall in that game, why can't it happen in Minecraft?
Please respond with thoughts, comments, additions, or confirmation if it can actually happen. Thank you for your time!

Don't click me.
I said don't click me!
Why are still clicking me?!
Okay, now I'm just annoyed...
You could be doing something productive right now...
Like finding the cure for cancer or something...
But no, you just have to keep clicking this damn spoiler tag.
Really, stop it.
I mean it.
The next spoiler tag you click is gonna blow up the world.
Boom, the world is gone.
I hope you're happy now, you broke the world...
The world is gone and you're still clicking spoiler tags on a forum post signature.
This is getting you nowhere in lyfe.
I spelled "LIFE" rong.
I spelled that rong too.
Great, now you got me on a ramble.
Just go to bed, you've stayed up way too late already.
It's 13 o'clock and you're still awake at this hour clicking spoiler tags.
Oh, and I haven't forgotten about the whole "You broke the world" thing either.
Now you're probably wondering if this is ever going to end.
Are you board yet?
How about now?
Obviously not, because you're still clicking spoiler tags.
This conversation has gone on way too long and I don't even know you're name.
Pleased to meet you, my name is ʞǝɹɹǝp.
Holy crap, how did he do that?!
Magic...
But not like Las Vegas magic though, that crap stinks.
I'm talkin' about some high class pixie dust magic.
That is fly.
I would show you another magic trick, but the world is broke.
Along with my magic hat.
This conversation is really doing absolutely nothing for the both of us.
Well I gotta go now, I have an appointment with the director of Purgatory.
But before I go, I have one more thing to say to you...
Congratulations on making it to the end of the spoiler chain, now go make yourself some cookies!
Well, Minecraft is kind of about the whole anti-gravity thing.
And also, it woud take quite a bit to mod the Terrian Generator.
But still, nice idea for a mod

My name is Alex and I am Minecraft ADDICT. I also Love Assassins Creed and The Dragon Age Series
I personally think minecraft is much better without gravity.
Not to mention many peoples structers will be destroyed.
plus floating islands are AWESOME.
I absolutely love the idea but think that for someone to make a mod that allows for you to make roofs and a cealing without it falling would be difficult
Well, this could cause underground caverns to cave in. That wouldn't be good. Actually, that would screw Minecraft up. And plus, Minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic. It's for building structures, while surviving through hordes of mobs during the night. The trees is to not allow players to obtain wood to fast. Notch/Jeb are genius' that developed the game. You should leave these kinda things to the developers. This mod actually be really hard to make.
Sorry if this sounds insulting, it's not meant to be. Just fact and opinion.
It would be possible actually. Code the engine to attempt to find a "line" of blocks connecting to bedrock via some basic pathfinding code (allowed to path through anything that isn't an air block). This code would be called when an adjacent block is modified, same as sand and gravel are now. So pre-generated floating islands would remain such until you destroyed one of their blocks, for instance.
With this, caverns would not cave in. Have a config file that lets users add other blocks to the "stable" block type (of which bedrock is always assumed) and the "no-pass" block type (of which air blocks are always assumed) and players could add other blocks like say, wool (airships) or maybe a lapis block (an anti-gravity "core" for an airship). And things like grass, flowers, and other odd blocks could be added to "no pass" if the player doesn't want their entire base being held up by sugar cane after they knock out the walls.
.
the void bedrock would be the oint of wich everything is supported on and therefor making it work quite well and against what i said erlier i guess you could somehow add a limit to the blocks not tuching more than one block touching the ground making this mod quite flawless hope it turns out.
