Notch probably won't do it, so maybe someone could make this mod? It's simple, just make the Nether chunks load together with the Overworld chunks, but make the Nether Chunks only be visible through a Obsidian frame. Here's what someone made in Blender:
This should be toggle-able, so those who like this but sometimes want to get the good ol' Nether magical effect, one should toggle it off. Mobs should be able to see you through the Portal, but Ghast Fireballs would explode when it crosses the portal, causing zero damage. Blaze fireballs should disobey this rule, and would go through the portal unnafected. Notice that, unlike the video, going to the other side of the portal won't show a Obsidian barrier, but it would show the Nether on it's other side. I really hope someone make this Mod, and it should be Aether compatible if it ever gets updated to 1.8.1. I made a topic asking it to appear in Vanilla, but it mysteriously disappeared.Okay, so noone will post like all my other topics? Come on, this is the Add Reply button's function!
That's a great idea. If you can get a talented coder, I'd install this mod and love it. What do you mean by mobs can see you through the portal? It would be cool if mobs could follow you through portals. When you enter the portal will it display the entering the nether screen?

Example: You are in the Nether, and you see a Creeper in the overworld through the Portal. He will see you, and will start chasing you. Same applies to other Hostile and Aggravated Neutral mobs.
Nope, it won't need to show this screen, as the game will automatically have loaded the Nether Chunks as soon as it opened, so when you enter the portal, it's like you are in the Nether, but can see the Overworld through it, like the video has shown.
Well yes, its a good idea, but i'm a modder and i'll tell you that's extremely hard, a insane challenge even to notch.
To do that we'll need something like double rendering :/
First, With that you'll just need to go thru the portal and you already in the nether, which is a problem because this means your computer have to get all the nether fully loaded every time you get near the portal or load the game. It would double the amount of things the computer should handle...
Second, The amount of time to create the nether is big and if we render it when the game is running it would take even more.
Finally, The loading when you get into the nether is inevitable, there's tons of things that changes from the surface like the fog and lightning.
Think why theres no mirror mod :/

Don't chase your dreams alone... Unless you're in single-player.
As a java coder, I will attempt to make this mod, I'm thinking of using a system similar to the way sethbling made the see through nether portal using command blocks.

Brilliant. I have a suggestion for some lag that might happen.
Only have 2, 3 chunks away from the portal at the most in the nether render through the portal, with heavy purple fog that blocks view of unloaded areas until you walk through, where it expands away and the heavy fog shows up on the overworld side instead.

I'm a pixel artist who makes pixel things and maps! I also do line art occasionally.
I have two work in progress resource packs!
This is the second one!
And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".
i'd like to tell you (even though you may no longer care) this is a mod now, you can get it here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/betterportals
