I dont know if anybody had that idea before but i tought a mod for H.P Lovecraft mythos would be just plain awesome. You know like adding new mobs in certains locations like deep-ones for example in swamps or shogoths etc. And bosses too,it would cool to add Dagon in big sea-like environements dont you think?
But im just suggesting it if someone is a good programmer/modder or artist that could help and would like to do something like this. I would just love it and it could add some creepiness to minecraft :smile.gif:
Awesome idea Shadowkan, I was just trawling these forums for references to the Cthulhu mythos, I know that it is referenced in some texture packs although as far as I know nobody has published a "Mod" as such.
I would love to see a mod;
Where NPC's were Cultists (Reskinned/Renamed)
Where the structures which generated as part of NPC villages would be slightly altered (Church especially)
Where swamp biomes would feature an effect similar to "Void Fog" except with a green tinge
With Squids would be much larger and attack you
Where there was a chance for ruins/villages to generate underwater
Where according to chance sleeping in a bed would spawn you in the Nether, or in water.
I think any mod like this though would benefit from waiting for 1.9, where we will (allegedly) have dripping water/lava and hopefully see the return of ice biomes.
Needless to say, I'm excited about this.
Feel free to contact me if you ever want a hand with Art, I am hopeless with Java, although this may be motivation to learn.
Maybe you could add a portal which instead of going to the nether, it goes to a dark lovecraft-like dimension full of weird mobs and biomes. Also, since there are randomly generated villages, you could make randomly generated alien ruins just at the mountains of madness.
hey guys here is a idea maybe you could add in stuff like weapons for the game arkham horror and instead off the ender dragon at the end have chthulu and mini baby chthulu's(ender men) and have diffrent monster voices and have a really rare viliger be H.P. lovecraft him self in a house with a few chests with the necornomicon and a few of his short storeis in book form and a few weapons just throwin it out there
I am actually starting one with my brother as the creative department because he knows all the stuff just because me and him were discussing when you sleep you goto the dreamland i think that is what it was called and there is actually east west north and south with ocelots as cats and if you kill them even bigger ocelots kill you (east) and with biomes with villages but with mobs with the biped model called cultists will try to kill you as a sacrifice to the great old ones and that you can use some type of animal with a gland or organ letting it go faster then light to different locations as locations and biomes like r'lyeh and where the outer gods play to keep azathoth asleep so he doesnt awake. and sorry if someone is working on something similar because I didn't really read the post just saw the title and the post I started today with some mobs because i have to porportion the great old ones and outergods because of their size but it will add seals talismans altars (in the cult biome) and after a certain ammount of minecraft days cthulhu will awaken and you can bind him but it is not recommended because if you do that means he is already awake and going to kill you or you awoke him and he is going to kill you.
It's a good idea but most of the Cthulhu Mythos are Unspeakable Horrors or Eldritch Abomination that are so horrible people who see it will be driven into madness. Other than that it's a great idea. There could be insane dimensions to explore and unique bosses to fight. I can't wait to beat up some Shoggoths and Shamblers
the whole thing about Lovecraftian lore is that it's all about "unimaginable terrors" and things that are "beyond humanity" so i don't think you should be allowed to actually -kill- cthulu or any sort of elder gods by just fighting them with just swords and arrows.
I think that a Lovecraft mod should be more about trying to just survive against unkillable monsters, trying to drive back eldritch corruption, and trying to stop cults from summoning the elder-gods.
Of course you could try to learn to channel their power (maybe like learning spells that make mobs attack eachother, or calling forth minor creatures) but that would have great consequences, like causing you to constantly have hallucinations of monsters about to attack you, or hearing noises that arn't there, or maybe even temporarily losing control of your character. Ultimately getting too involved in dark eldrich magic should transform your character into a fish-man of course.
actually, now that i think of it, i think this would actually work out pretty well as a Witchery add-on maybe? but it could also survive as it's own standalone mod
