Oh, and, sorry for the doublepost - I need a texture for the Neodymium Ore block. Make it silvery, please.
Double post is fine with me, just means that I can't quote both. Neodymium ore block coming soon. I hope.
I got an account on Image Shack, tries to upload an image, put it failed, just showing the default "can't show image".
Also, I will post up non-space vehicles soon. Good ideas for the garage mod and the other planets.
I did both the ore and the solid block, but for some reason I can't upload them onto Image Shack. When I try it comes up with a pod-up box saying "no images were uploaded".
And a few screenies of my space elevator! Simple but effective.
Reminds me of the the spaceladder in CCTP.
Shouldn't planets have gravitational fields and such, so you cant just hover with no engines, and fighters and small craft would have trouble getting back up?
Shouldn't planets have gravitational fields and such, so you cant just hover with no engines, and fighters and small craft would have trouble getting back up?
To create an artificial gravital feild properly would be extreemly difficult, so what were going to do was have a simper, but still fairly realistic false gravitational field. This would work by ships needing a certain speed to take off, any ship can do it if it has the right engines. In space, there is no gravity outside ships, but inside there is always, no microgravity coming from the planet. We will probably still have the ability to put ships into a (square) orbit around the planet, though this will be part of the ships programming, rather than the planets.
I have one more Idear. Maby a Space capsule . has very limites flight capibilites . to get into orbit it needs to be fired out of a Vertical TNT cannon. also Large warheads could be fired from the planit with huge vertical TNT cannons.
If the space ships have hige fire power the planit should have to. I would also like a BIG RED BUTTON is same a Normal button but lookes so mutch cooler for firing misiles tnt cannons ect...
Maby the hyper drive would be made with Blocks so if some of then are destroyed it has to be rebuilt to regain full speed. also the size of the hpyer drive could determon speed throught worm holes . also Basic manuvring jets should be ont the out side of the ship. again destroying some of the causes slower speed and diffucult handling. and as well as the captions chair therer should also be a Gunners chair conected to one of the turrets on the surface of the ship. And you should add presure doors . so when parts of the hull are breached you can lock them down with redstone controll from the brige or main engenering.
Posibly have these able to be droped on the planit . How cool the Matrix APU
Finally some good recognition. My neodymium ore blocks work in-game - they just don't do jack yet. I'm going to have to get ahold of SDK's source code so I can create railguns to use it with... Imagine, magnets!
Currently what I have going on for ships is a size-check - anything above x "mass" (size) just simply can't enter atmosphere. If it's already there it can stay - buildings and such aren't affected. I've figured out a way to create our "space" realm - change the day/night graphics in space so both have the starfield, unmoving, and tell the realm's worldgen not to create any blocks at all - other than a small platform at player-spawn, representing the top of the space elevator, for me. Maybe just your rocket if you travel that way. It also spawns you at the bottom of the map - no bedrock, so you're down at -64. Now I just have to code it... pray for my sanity.

Good luck, hope it goes well and you take away great deal of knowledge from the experience.
To confirm:
- You have somehow managed to rescue my textures, and have programmed them into the game, so they generate, but don't make guns yet.
- Space is infinite, so you do spawn at the bottom (the closest point to the planet) but there is no limit to how high you can go. Is this what you ment, or were you going to make space an empty, 128 block high area? If you were, it's fine, but I would prefer it to be infinite; but in the early stages of the mod, 128 blocks is fine.
And also about the space elevators, once you build one, you should be able to see a flat graphic of the cable going either into or out of the atmosphere, depending wether you are in space or on land.
Edit: I started work on modifying Ryo95's texture pack to look more futuristic. It Is a high definition pack, so be warned. I think that for the mod, we will have to options; normal textures plus the new blocks, and a high definition version, with new textures from Craftrek, with my own modifications and new blocks. Is this a good idea?
Just like the frigate is held on larger ships a fighter could be held in large ships. Im not talking one fighter but 4-8 so you can create a invasion force. Another cool ship would be like the cruiser only it would have half the weapon slots and would need one person to control it. But it would have a ton of cargo spaces and it can have passenger spots and twice the sheild. This ship could possibly have up to 3 defence ships on board. Defence ships are fighters only instead of two guns it has one gun. This ship would be used to restock a planet after your planet invades. Another featre that would be cool is a towable platform that would let you build your own space station. You could also have a ship that holds a ton of robots.
The space boundary would have a counterpart, of course - when attempting to transition from space to atmosphere, you would have to cross the "atmosphere boundary". Perhaps code a size-check so that on re-entry, the server/system knows "you're too large" or "Coming in too fast" and bounces you back into space, preventing some future joker from landing his alliance's dreadnought on a planet and power-conquering.
-shiva
Instead of bouncing you out have more of a shock of trying to own a world with a massive ship say you your crew and your ship and your items get dystroyed and killed then debris get hurled into space damaging any of his freinds planning to do the same thing.

That was my plan.
I.e. fighters were always going to go in larger ships, as they have no hyper-drive.
As for your other ideas, another type of light cruiser could be useful, I think that the cruiser that I currently have would fit in this category. Defence ships... Its a thought.
Good luck, hope it goes well and you take away great deal of knowledge from the experience.

Fantastic idea, Doc.
While I know it would be possible to create an infinite world - and with nothing in it, it would probably be the least lagged area of the game! - it would stress an individual computer far too much for my liking. For instance, I'm doing this on my laptop. I'm getting a better one, but this one... meh. I may double the skylimit to +256.
And the flat graphic would be doable, certainly... it's just a question of adding it to the space-realm's "lower" graphic.
I've already taken away a great deal of knowledge - before I found this I was clueless about Java. Still fairly well am, as a matter of fact. I'm PMing experienced modders (Flan, SDK, the Aether team, the Mars team) and asking for help, and one of the Mars team was actually willing to, once they finish their mods, so we may have reinforcements in the future. It would help if you could help me find one, Doc, as I could benefit from their knowledge and be more useful, because at this point I'm ideas more than action.

I thought to help code the infinite space, you can have a render distance, similar to the normal world but with the ability to zoom in and out, so either you can be 1st person view, or zoomed out to see the whole Minecraft universe (if you play Spore, you will know what I mean, and if you don't than sorry, you will just have to interpret what I'm meaning [or look up a video]). I will see if I can find any more programmers to help.
Hmm. Might work, though I'm not sure about coding the zoom-ability...
It would be hard, but defiantly worth looking into, because it would mean that you can have a complete map of the universe. It couldn't be much harder than any of the map render programs, like Tectonics.
Also, one of friends might be able to help with programming. He is learning Java from the basics, not using a Minecraft how-to(s), which means that his progress towards Minecraft programming is slow, but he should be interested.
And here's a few screenies of the freighter and its' drive system.
And about your friend - bring him on! He's still probably better at it than I, and it took me all of ten minutes to learn a goodly bit about how to mod minecraft thanks to an amazing tutorial, so...

Enjoy, these were extremely painful to get to you. The were somehow resized, making them all blurry. See if I can fix them..
Need sprites?
