I love you. It just reminds me of Stargate too much... And Stargate is my favourite thing! Aside from Minecraft, of course. I can foresee myself terrorising servers with my City-Ships and my drones...

so I thought I would write a little story (pov of a creeper) of what I think will happen when this mod comes out... enjoy
the Creeper
It was a nice sunny day in the flatlands of Minecraftia, the smell of roses penetrated the air and a nice breeze shook the trees gentally. I was enjoying his peaceful day, not even the thought of blowing up came up in my head and I was happy. So, I decided to wander off and find some shade under a tree. Once I found a sizeable tree to lay under I heard a noise, nothing like I'd ever heard before.
I wandered closer to the Strange noise and then I saw the strangest of ravines. Not the ones that curve and wind in random directions, but the rectangle shaped one. When I looked closer I saw several people building what looked to be a boat of some kind. One of the builder took a glance at me and I knew if I didn't escape I would be gunpowder.
That Evening:
The sun started to set and I thought about what happened today, what could the humans be building? "psssst", a spider said, " the humans are planning an attack on ussss" As I took this into consideration the ground started to shake and I heard I small hummimg sound coming for the human's building site. Then I saw a bright light coming from what looked like a long metal stick. BOOOMMMMM! I looked back at were the spider was and all I saw was a crater and a light shining down at it.
I thought to my self, "I need to RUN!" As a start to run, trying to avoid the light, I find myself in one of the light and the humming gets louder and........ BAAMMMMMM! Next thing I know is im covered in bood and I cant move. As one of the humans come down from the ship I try to explode taking myself out of my misery........ The fuse ignites, the human is fine and the craft is unscaved..........
I wanted to create this story just for fun, but I think that groups of people will join together and create massive ships. With these spacecraft they will probubly go on creeper raids. :tongue.gif:
Does this have preset spacecraft, or does does it purely move a mass of blocks that you define around, enabling you to make your own spacecraft designs?

imagine you want to colonize a world/moon rich in minerals but there is no atmosphere and you cant be on the planet long enough to mine the ores solution: you bring out your terraformer you plonk it down and activate it then you watch as one by one the top blocks of the world turn into dirt/grass blocks and trees plant themselves this processes will take one minecraft day one whole day depending on the size of the planet creating an atmosphere and allowing animals to spawn. :biggrin.gif:

I think that anything more than 10-30 km would be excessive because the space would become boring and long to cross for fighters and boarding parties, and any speeds fast enough to cross those distances would be too fast for combat. If social areas (like shipyards or bases) had areas that fast, it would be reasonable to allow ships to go that fast, but in combat ships should be limited to about 100m/s (360 km/hr) this speed would create a speed that is fast enough for travel, but slow enough for space dog fighting that I hope to see. (100 m/s would have to be a sprint speed for small maps as that would be crossing a 10km map in 10 seconds)

Considering that this is Futurecraft, it seems that oil would be an archaic power source, any petroleum fuel would not be used in any ship because using it requires burning it using up oxygen and producing excess heat. It could be used for a low-level land/atmosphere vehicle, but I think it would be unnecessary to have fossil fuels.
As for liquid fuel, you could make something up, and water should be stored on board, but there should be some dangerous coolant that is needed to be stored on board just because every ship needs some sort of extremely dangerous reactor coolant in fragile containers for the sole purpose of being a good plot device. (ex: Star Trek: First Contact)
Whatever power is generated should be always at some point electricity. This would make everything universal input or output. Fuels would only be a way to store and generate electricity, and everything will accept electricity as power. This will simplify the power distribution system, and it will make generating power easier as medium ships could have multiple small generators allowing them to accommodate several fuels if they become stranded.
To the person talking massive distances.... that just isnt practical/fun in the minecraft setting. Sure, in real life, you wouldnt even be able to see the enemy... but how the hell would that work in minecraft? I think the fights should all be within render distance ideally.
Also.... this brings up a big question..... how would spaceship weaponry work? Im thinking it would need turrets (railguns?) that can rotate and fire as players direct them.... even turrets that can all be slaved together to a single control console and aim/fire as a battery. All devices (engines, turrets, control consoles, shield arrays, etc) should need to be connected to power conduits, leading to reactor blocks. You would place multiple reactor blocks in a room in a large ship, immersed in water to keep them cool, and surrounded by something as strong as obsidian (because if the enemy ship breaches the core and destroys a reactor block, they explode violently)
So, weapons? I would go with-
Railgun Turret (Large, slow rate of fire, long range, powerful shell, needs ammunition and a fairly decent amount of energy)
Laser Turret (Medium, fast turning, continious fire, quite energy intensive, but no need for ammo)
Flak Turret (Small quad turret, low calibre, tiny ammo, innacurate, short range, just fills the sky with lead, requires very little energy)
Missile Tube (Basically looks like a torpedo tube but for your spaceship, needs to be loaded one missile at a time, fires it in a straight line and just keeps going till it hits something, then explodes like tnt. Loadable by a redstone powered loading device)
small arms (handheld weapons for players to use)
