I am a huge fan of dwarf fortress and it would be really awesome if someone (anyone) Could make a mod that incorporates fortress mode.so lets get to the basics- (btw if you have not played dwarf fortress you probably wont know what im going to talk about)
First of all the dwarfs themselves for this part i was thinking that they would have a mind of themselves (like in the game) and follow orders to the minimal or to the max depending on their personality, and the work they do is dependent on intelligence and endurance and strength (somewhat like the game)And of course the everlasting need to drink alcohol.
On to the next part commanding your dwarfs, first of all it should not be a top down view or it would basically be dwarf fortress.Instead in the world you make you will be the expedition leader and you will command the dwarfs from the ground not the top down view.One of the most important parts that a mod like this should have is the workshops,stockpiles,forges,walls, and the enemy kobolds and goblins. For the workshops you could craft a workshop block and when you place it down (whether it be a carpenters workshop or a masons workshop) a dwarf with the right profession will come and build it for you, Architecture stage would be completely removed and replaced with the player building the block and placing it and that will be the architecture stage.Stockpiles will act as places to store good produced by your dwarfs or you, any dwarf should come by and pick the item up with his hand an haul it away to a stockpile. As for the player having more inventory than the dwarfs he can craft at any workshop and haul any finished items. Forges as in metalworking fuel resources shall mainly be coal and charcoal and magma forges will have to have a magma block at least 3 blocks below them for it to work.glass making will be removed from the regular old furnace to a glass making furnace. As for walls and forts only you dwarfs can build those and instead the player can designate an area for a wall to be built, the enemy kobolds and goblins will start attacking when your outpost/civilization starts to thrive. Migrants will come from far away pre generated dwarven civilizations when they find the player they find the meeting area and sit there until the player assigns them jobs. The areas- Shall be designated with a wand sort of type of item This will go for stockpiles as well.
Last but not least-minerals and mining First of all not all the minerals should be put in the mod there are well over a thousand minerals or more.just maybe about 100 or so and if the modder chooses he or she may continue putting the minerals in,Cobblestone shall be removed and replaced with any non-economic rocks that will be mined by your miners.Miners shall be told what to look for when digging and the style the dig in or you can tell them what to dig with an underground map.The metals minerals-there should be a very much occurring mineral in each world one rock type mineral that spawns often and one metal type mineral that spawns very often.
If you have come this far i thank you and i will not be touching base on the medical system,nobles systems,bedrooms and dining room,or combat system just yet because i want to see how far the post will get with the current idea/request.If anyone wants me to go more in depth with the request/idea please respond.
