Minecarts Mk.II needs your help! Our programmer has recently dropped out of the project due to real-life commitments and we need a new one!
What is it? Minecarts Mk.II is a comprehensive mod and proposal designed to fix and improve Minecraft's glitch-based minecart gameplay. It is unique in that it's the only minecart mod developed using the key principles of game balance, easy integration with the core game, and player usability.
Started in December of 2010, the concept has been significantly refined and now has a strong, active fan base. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. If you're a modder/programmer interested in helping make this project a reality, or if you're just curious about the project and have some questions, please don't hesitate to PM me!
This would be epic to see this proposal back in game and fully finished after the few months since the 1.2_01 version (i got that right, right?) Oh well it would be great to see an experienced programmer do this mod
Finally! A no-nonsense solution for minecarts. I like the designs and how well thought out the whole proposal looks. I love the boosters! And the different speeds give my rollercoasters alot of options. But the Detector block takes me to a whole new level! Flying arrows, music, EXPLOSIONS! Oh man! Please PLEASE somebody mod this!

-Yes he's 100% vanilla minecraft (without the cherry) legit
-No I do not plan on setting him on fire
Im a programmer with java knowhows, but I also am flooded with real-life issues right now, and I don't know if I'm up for it. feel free to pm me a link to sources / repositories though, as well as any feature requests and such, I might be useful in short bursts :wink.gif:
I'll also point out that I'm really excited about the prospect of official modding API, and I have been holding off on producing my own mods (as well as on installing and using them) until the API becomes official. So I can't promise anything.
Edit - we should totally update to MK IV if we update, so we keep up with the minecraft versions.

Thanks for the reply! I'll keep you in mind. Also, the "Mk.II" moniker refers to our intention of simply improving the current minecart system. It's not supposed to refer to a version number or anything. I suppose when we get a working mod off the ground, I might re-brand the project with something more relevant.
I've never done a mod before, but if I could look at an existing one, figuring out how everything worked would probably be rather simple. I'd be glad to help, especially if you're willing to share what you have. Differential equasions can wait :biggrin.gif: (no it can't, I have an 80 problem assignment that I've done 15 problems of due in like a day :tongue.gif:)
edit - I have entertained the idea of making a stability and robistitude enhancement mod for a while, there are a bunch of flaws with the save system that makes it very vulnerable to data loss or corruption in the event of a crash, and the architecture of the format and the code that handles it often makes recovery impossible. I'm working on a tool that will automatically check and repair save files, but prevention is better than cure.

Do your assignment first. ;D
When you're done that, you can take a look at this file. It's a zip of our old (incomplete) version of the mod. Crack open the class files with a java decompiler and feel free to poke around in the code. I personally use JD-GUI since it's free.
Oh, and that version was created by a user named Glitchfinder. I should mention credit where credit is due.
@apocalypse_r How ever the problem with the decompiled java files is that they are still obfuscated. This would not be a problem if the obfuscated class names stayed the same per version but this is not the case (or at least not that I can see).
However your abilities would be greatly appreciated with this mod
I have a pretty strong idea of how the mechanics of each block are supposed to work so I can answer questions related to that. However, I don't know the finer details of how to translate the mechanics into code and thus feel pretty useless in that regard. Even if you don't have time to code, it would still be great if you could lend your experience to the other coders if they run into difficulties.
I've run a decompiler on the classic server a long time ago, and it wasn't too hard to run through and deobfuscate manually (except that the decompiler was broken and generated the most bizarre of syntactical creations and messed up function arguments and if it couldn't figure out somethings name it would just make one up out of ?'s and $'s >:S
Do you have a newer version I could look at? maybe even unobfuscated source? I'll see if I can pull a recent version out of somewhere.
I've finished that diffeq stuff. for now. before it rears it's ugly head again next week. I also have about 15 saves to check in that corrupted saves thread and some coding to do for a school project... oh, so much to do and so little time </wonka>
in any case, I have heard good things about minecarts mk II in the past, and even though I've never used it because I'm waiting for official support to start with mods, I've watched the videos and this mod is really useful and well intentioned. I won't let it become old and outdated and derelict and stuck in version 1.2 . (unless it actually gets implemented :tongue.gif:)
Much appreciated. Also, I don't have any unobfuscated source. Wish I did though. It's part of the reason why I'm not attempting to code this myself. :tongue.gif:
mcmodder_07 is currently working on our latest version, however Glitchfinder was our previous programmer until he had to step down due to real life commitments. Glitchfinder had boosters, full-stops, and semi-functional detector blocks in his version but is not compatible with Minecraft 1.4. As of this post, mcmodder_07 has only completed the boosters and the full-stop block in a 1.4 compatible version. Both versions are still pretty buggy and require a fair amount of ironing out. They're also only available for SSP atm.
