When you first spawn in Minecraft, you are always facing the sun. Proven fact. But sometimes I wonder what the Minecraft world would be without sunlight? What would you do if the first mob you saw was a skeleton instead of a pig? Thats what this mod idea is about.
The concept is to have an overworld, but it is shielded by a barrier of bedrock at the top layer. This would make an intresting challenge for any world. You have to find a light source by yourself, the sun will not be a factor in survival at all. Every 500 or so blocks the ceiling will have a Bright Bedrock piece, which emits the same amount of light as a torch, so the ceiling is visible. Grass would be a rare and valuable sight in this world, because normally moonlight can support grass during the night, but here there is nothing natural to light things but above-ground lava. Flowers would be worth diamonds in this world. Mushrooms would be all over the place, meaning mushroom stew could replace pork. Trees would be in this world would still be normal, but you will need light to grow saplings.
This would be an option before creating a world, as normal worlds cannot become worlds of darkness and worlds of darkness cannot become normal.

My goal in Minecraft is to defeat every glitch in Minecraft, so people can play without worry.
A quick hack at this. The ceiling is bedrock with random holes in it. Due to the way that minecraft renders the distance you will still have that blue sky in the distance, but there really is a ceiling there. The lights on the ground are from the holes in the ceiling and they do get darker at night time. You will spend a decent chunk of your first day looking for a tree, they do happen and it is pretty rare. Animals will huddle around the available light sources and it does add a new level of hardness.
