I opened up the .minecraft folder and the bin folder, but I don't have a minecraft.jar anywhere in there anymore? I have no interest in learning curse forge or dealing with the nonsense that it brings.
If you want to play modded Minecraft, the best way (IMO) is to use a third party app like CurseForge, MultiMC, ATLauncher and others. These apps help in creating Profiles, loading the API of your choice (Forge, Fabric, etc) and also install the mods you want. The app then loads the Profile into Minecraft to play the game.
I've been using CurseForge since the beginning and have had no problems with it.
You can still use the old fashion route: download and install Forge, create a Forge Profile, run the Profile once (to create new folders), then download, copy and paste mods you want into the mods folder, then play the game.
