Okay, so I've been thinking about playing this minecraft modpack, but it's only available on the technic launcher, and for whatever reason MultiMC refuses to work.
If I download and execute the technic launcher, will I get a virus or something?
Technic, FTB, Curseforge, GDLauncher (uses Curseforge's sources for downloading mods and modpacks) are all trustworthy.
They are modpack launchers. So if you have ever heard of Hexxit or Tekkit back in the day or Feed The Beast modpacks or so then you'll know they come from Technic or FTB.
Curseforge being a mod/texture pack/worlds and more hosting platform for many games including Minecraft it's very safe.
MultiMC/PolyMC are your third party launchers that aren't modpack hosting but offer more flexibility to mod or do other things with then Mojang's own launcher provides as third party launchers would with more quality of life and other features.
Same as how Curseforge, PlanetMinecraft, Modrinth are trustrworthy fan content download sources and are download from the original mod authors/teams but 9Minecraft or certain others aren't and are mod repost sites.
In some cases mod repost sites are the only way to get some files if the mod author wants to remove it for whatever reasons they have their right to do so, but they are still not recommended to use.
When you get into TLauncher, Wurst and others then your getting into hacked launchers which MCForums or likely most people would not recommend (only mentioning for sake of informing nothing more)
You can usually tell a hacked client/launcher by a few things, if you have used them they are very similar in structure to Mojang's folder layout. When you see premium accounts this is also a likely sign or other more hacking/cheating features they may promote. Either way stay away from these they are basically freely offering the game when Curseforge, Technic, FTB, MultiMC and more require you to have bought the game first.
I know as I own the game but Mojang's account migration system is so annoying (I can fix it, but I already migrated and it makes it seem like I did even though i migrated years ago, their system is so bad) that even though I own the game it locks you out of even Technic even though you have a different account but still need a legal copy of the game (which is perfectly understandable). So for those that thought oh you will be saved by Technic yeah good luck with that (aka myself).
It's possible to solve of course just annoying, but still worth noting for those curious. XD Sigh.

This Launcher is safe - Technic Launcher is a rather well-known Custom Launcher
The project is public at Github
