This thread will explain how APortingCore a new project that allows for 1.8 to 1.12.2 mods can work on 1.7.10. Only 1.8-1.8.9 mods work so far (look on the compatibility spreadsheet to know which are supported).
APortingCore is a project by KAIIIAK (xKAIIIAKx - CurseForge account name) and
GedeonGrays.
This thread is maintained by me (SuntannedDuck2, wiki/documenter staff) for any questions, help and awareness of the project besides being a HUB for the links to various things related to the project.
Regarding wikis (Wikis show screenshots of Mojang launcher and MultiMC installation methods (there is a lot and found it hard to post them to the forum) to know what to look for besides the text instructions and explaining other details about the project (the Miraheze wiki is more up to date and where most of the information in the posts comes from besides testing)
APortingCore Mojang Launcher Install Instructions (works on 1.0 to 0.3.1):
Default Instructions on the Curseforge page:
For screenshots on what to look for with either the Mojang launcher or MultiMC installation methods visit the Wiki link at the top of this post.
How to install APortingCore? 1. Download and install Forge latest version for 1.7.10 2. Download APortingCore latest version 3. Put APortingCore in the mods folder 4. Put the selected mods in the mods folder 5. Launch your Minecraft
All that is required of you: 1. Open Forge as an archive 2. Go to the META-INF folder 3. Delete 2 files (if any) - FORGE.DSA and FORGE.SF 4. Edit the MANIFEST.MF file by deleting everything below 22 line
Usually Forge is located in libraries under the following path: libraries\net\minecraftforge\forge\1.7.10-10.13.4.1614-1.7.10\forge-1.7.10-10.13.4.1614-1.7.10.jar Note: Forge name and location may vary depending on the launcher used. So something like this C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\libraries\net\minecraftforge\forge\1.7.10-10.13.4.1614-1.7.10 (which you can copy and paste into the File Explorer (Mac or Linux equivalent) search bar to make it easier to find the Forge file, follow Step 2 of 'All that is required of you' from there)
IMPORTANT! If you are using a launcher that automatically redownloads libraries or Forge (such as MultiMC), unfortunately such launcher will not be compatible with APortingCore (which is why a specific method is used for installing through MultIMC for 0.3).
MultiMC Installation Tutorial (made during 0.3, tested with 0.3 and 0.3.1, if upgrading just update the Add Empty 'Forge' and libraries/patches folder and it should work):
Make sure to add the ASJCore to the mods folder for 0.3.1+ versions of APortingCore. If you are upgrading don't forget to re-apply the libraries/patches folder and Add Empty 'Forge' steps again and it should work.
3.Once downloaded extract the file, 2 folders named 'libraries' and 'patches' should be visible.
4.Create a MultiMC 1.7.10 instance.
5.Once created, go to the Edit instance button then select 'add empty' and put 'Forge' in the name box and 'net.minecraftforge' in the uid box. Load the game and a patches folder will be created. Remove the original patches folder and add the libraries folder and new patches folder outside the.minecraft folder (above the instance.cfg and mmc-pack.json files).
6.Load the game and a patches folder will appear. Remove the original net.minecraftforge file that is part of the original patches folder. Add the libraries and patches folder from the zip file in place of it (another option is to take the code from the zip file patches' net.minecraftforge and paste it in the old one removing the old code with the larger new one).
7.Load the instance and if Forge is loaded it was setup correctly.
8.Add APortingCore 0.3 and compatible mods to the mods folder and load up the game. If the mods are loaded with more than 3 (the usual Forge files) then they are loaded correctly.
9.Create a new world for testing and see what happens.
Wiki page showing screenshots of Mojang launcher and MultiMC installation methods to know what to look for and explaining other details about the project: https://modwiki.miraheze.org/wiki/APortingCore
Horse Debug Info for 1.12.2 didn't work but the 1.8.8 version did (testing the same mod but newer versions, so newer versions aren't ready yet, so 1.8-1.8.9 versions are the way to go for now, then again expect small mods for 1.8 versions not big ones).
Scenario 2:
A 1.7.10 mod (Xaero's Minimap) in this environment to see if it's possible to use 1.7.10 mods and see if the game crashes and the playability is limited. The reason for testing this is because Intermediary I couldn't get 1.2.5 mods and 1.7.10 mods to work together so wanted to see if the same would happen here where only the 1.8 mods would work and that only emulating the 1.8 mods was possible rather than both 1.8 and 1.7.10 working.
Glad to say that it can load 1.7.10 mods and the newer versions that support APortingCore 0.3 in the mods folder without it crashing meaning that it's not limited. As you can tell by the screenshot.
ATTACHMENTS
1.7.10 and 1.8 mods in same environment APortingCore test
This should work for both Mojang launcher and MultiMC. With re-appliying the Add Empty 'Forge' and the libraries/patches folder for the MultiMC install I was able to upgrade from 0.3 to 0.3.1 as just adding 0.3.1 and ASJCore didn't work for me but should be fine if a newcomer.
added more to the post above regarding screenshots on the Wiki as the screenshots can help with what to look for with the tutorial steps (the Wiki also has had a few changes by myself and the creator of the project).
0.3.1 APortingCore changelog:
- HookLib has migrated to ASJCore, so ASJCore is now required - remove @Mod "forge" requirement
- now APortingCore works on the server
Updated the first post and the post two posts ago (the Edit in red text) to reflect current status with testing I've done and better understanding what happens.
Added ASJCore reminder for MultIMC instructions to be inline with the wiki.
Added version support next to install type headings. Check the wiki for more frequent updates as the forum ones will be a bit behind.
As a gift and as not much is likely to happen during Christmas update wise for many of my forums I though I'd provide an APortingCore Starter Pack with the mods I used for testing for people to import for MultiMC. Don't think there is much for the Mojang launcher I can do other than just provide the mods but as I wanted to provide a modpack that works (at least on first load not the second onwards sadly) and a package this is what I'm going with.
Purpose of the Starter Pack:
I am aware many have probably gotten used to using APortingCore but for those that haven't tried it, find setting up things too complicated (so they use a modpack instead of the trial and error of making mods work/installing Forge) or want something to easily pull from and setup up quickly so they don't have to redownload the core aspects of APortingCore they can with this.
Larger Modpack consideration:
I am considering a modpack with as many of the compatible mods as possible as well as some other mods I think suit the pack/based on my own niche mod preferences to spice things up but this Starter Pack will not be that, the larger pack will be another project after I have done a bunch of testing/messing around. As you may know GalactiCraft doesn't work and I assume many other 1.7.10 or 1.8-1.8.9 big mods may not but there is tons of more niche ones or smaller scaled content mods that may work besides just the UI/Vanilla like features ones the many compatible in the spreadsheet mention that I'm considering to add to a more fleshed out modpack than a Starter Pack. I have only tested the 4 in this Starter Pack though so I will get to work on the larger pack at some point.
Included in the Starter Pack:
There is 3 text files detailing what to do with the Libraries and Patches folders (encase doesn't work on second load onwards) along the same links (Wiki, Discord, Compatible Mods Spreadsheet) as above along with what to do encase the pack doesn't work on the second load (I have tested enough to know this) in the mods folder if you need any help/want to fix it yourself. The Discord/Wiki are also there just encase along with the Compatible Mods Spreadsheet.
Either way. Here is the Starter Pack with:
-APortingCore 0.3.1,
-ASJCore's 1.1.3.0
and the 4 mods I use for testing:
-Instant Drowning 1.8 only,
-Xaero's Minimap 1.7.10 (worked with APortingCore 0.3 but not so much 0.3.1 from what I've tested at least, so if server support is important stay with 0.3.1 as I assume not just this mod but other 1.7.10 ones in the same folder won't if not and want better compatibility with 1.7.10 mods even though it's suitable to stay with 1.8-1.8.9 range ones at least as far as with what I did testing with of just Xaero's Minimap 1.7.10 go with 0.3),
-ChatEmotes 1.8.9
-and Horse Debug Info 1.8.8
NOTE: I have been trying with a weak Laptop to see if it works and the game launches to the title screen, creating a world works but the blocks are invisible so that sucks. I tried 0.3, 0.3.1, and 1.7.10 Vanilla and nope. This wont likely happen to you but I will need to try my more powerful hardware for some tests. But it hasn't crashed even with me seeing nothing in world so that's good, at least for a few short minutes I'm in the world testing, not hours as I can't see anything of course.
I may or may not try and get this working on Curseforge's launcher as it's Mojang's launcher with some differences but if similar to my Rift modloader (1.13 modloader) attempts I may or may not be able to get it working (meaning I've experienced things like this before myself before Jumploader came around and solved these issues for Fabric a 1.14+ modloader).
Again if it doesn't work on second load onwards please read the text files (in the mods folder and the instance folder) as it will tell you where to look for the Libraries/Patches folders if you need to replace them and the discord/wiki sources (besides what is also detailed in the first post of this forum) can explain the rest. I will respond on the Forums/Discord but I have provided whatever information necessary in the text file while testing this Starter Pack encase I am unable to respond and as a bonus due to how particular the stability of the pack is.
Thought I'd get out some video tutorials (planned on it)
Got an announcement video from CyberEagleGaming which was nice (thanks for following up on my request when you had the time).
I have 3 ready but only 1 of them was up to the standards I was after so have to redo the other two.
Either way here is a MultiMC video tutorial, I have the Starter Kit one and Mojang Launcher ones to tweak/redo.
For those wanting some help with it if the wiki instructions are unclear/text isn't enough, enjoy. If have any feedback leave a comment in the thread, on the video or the APortingCore Discord.
Just completed the Starter Kit tutorial (cuts down on the things needed for the MultiMC tutorial so you just need to import it) but still maintain the libraries/patches unfortunately. No way around that at the moment. The text files will tell you what to do though. The Starter Kit will work the first time though, second onwards you will need to replace those folders in the right place.
Finally the Mojang launcher tutorial. I am unable to get the game to not crash (0.3 or 0.3.1 as well as redoing the install from scratch every time) but it's the steps I took/the creator took so not sure what's going on now.
I'd recommend the MultiMC or MultiMC Starter Kit ones instead as I did get those working (Starter Kit cuts down on stuff/saves time).
Forge 1.7.10 (latest is fine), 7Zip/WinRar (use whichever you want) is required and the mojang launcher of course.
My video/tutorial I couldn't get it working (same with the Rift tutorials I did back in 1.13 seems to be a thing I have happen where I learn about them, get them working then they don't in some form later XD now back on topic) but he was able to so I'd recommend you watch his but if you want a step by step guide following the wiki steps watch mine to know where you put/get everything
The project is still on hiatus/cancelled. It's complex. Enough has been tried of some mods it works with then more to add.
Starter Kit is functional enough to not crash (at least PolyMC it doesn't, it did with MultiMC for me prior) I haven't changed a thing with it at all.
If I leave it on my Google drive and it's inactivity happens (or I choose to remove it to make room for other things), it will be gone. Hopefully on archive it will be around longer/more accessible.
Google drive if inactivity it will be removed. I know this. So it made sense to move it to a safer place.
As long as archive.org isn't attacked again. I will always keep it locally on my computer as well.so it has many places for it. I'll seek others if possible as well.
I care about this project or else I wouldn't have made the Vimeo videos, wiki and starter kit for these, so yeah.
Like Rift I archive things so they are still accessible for years then un-functional. Rift was dead and I archived it heavily all it's files to get it working so it wasn't lost media. Popular or niche it has value. I valued it.
I value this project as well. Regardless of its not recency relevance.
I don't know if I will try to for Mojang/MultiMC launcher methods it's files/complete versions to easily import or so.
I may try to the videos on these methods as well/starter kit install instructions video.

Either way enjoy.

Thanks for making the video
My video/tutorial I couldn't get it working (same with the Rift tutorials I did back in 1.13 seems to be a thing I have happen where I learn about them, get them working then they don't in some form later XD now back on topic) but he was able to so I'd recommend you watch his but if you want a step by step guide following the wiki steps watch mine to know where you put/get everything

I have now moved the starter kit to archive.org
https://archive.org/details/aporting-core-0.3.1-starter-pack-1.1
I like archiving things. If anyone cares or not.
Anyway that's all nothing new on the project.
