First thread, apologies if this isn't the right place to post this. Alright so, I installed these modded horses (more horse genetics) and they replaced the vanilla horses. Is there a way to have both vanilla and modded horses? if not, I got a texture pack with a different saddle and different horse armours. I was wondering if there was a way to apply the saddle and horse armour textures onto these modded ones with somehow. Thanks!
Not sure, if it's a mod that changes Vanilla horses then not likely, textures and such also (I'm no expert just speculating). But if it's a modded horse that doesn't change how a Vanilla one is, and it's a horse only added by the mod then it would be fine as it's not effecting the Vanilla one.
There is a way to apply saddle and horse armour textures onto mod or vanilla textures I just don't know how. I'd look around for videos or if you can ask devs what they have to say or look at how texture/resource packs that change modded textures do it.

I don't know how Forge mods work but you can at least directly edit the mod's jar file to change the textures (they should be located in a folder named "assets" with paths corresponding to the type of textures, just as vanilla does. Make a copy of the original file before doing this, and do not try to distribute the altered file as this is probably against the modder's ToS (Optifine's creator even forbids you from altering it for personal use, which is nonsense). It may also be possible to use a resource pack by replicating the paths that the resource pack uses, which would avoid the need to alter the mod directly and enable distributing the pack in an easier to use manner (I am only familiar with the vanilla system; my own mods simply add code and assets on top of vanilla instead of using Forge so the same paths that vanilla uses will work). You may also have to edit the textures if the models are different (much like trying to use a Steve skin on Alex and vice-versa; the textures in the mod jar will show you how they need to be altered).
